Depending on how you want Janet's throughline to go, you could tie it into a mummy story about respecting the dead. You probably already know this, but mummys were used industrially in the 1800s to make mummy brown paint, ground up in medicine, and burnt as fuel. Add in a bit of magic to make these uses so attractive that "mummy-sploitataion" is ubiquitous and you have a setting ripe for some form of retribution. Personally I would start that story at an unwrapping party for a particularly prestigious mummy where the host extracts powerful magic talismans from the bindings and hands them out like party favors

2025-12-22 17:31:02 +0000 UTCThere have been some off handed mentions of fairies recently and the banshee in the woods is ever-present, so why not do something Gaelic? The nuckalevee isn't exactly classic movie monster, but i think it has most of the right vibes to be. It lives in the Ocean around the Orkney Islands, trapped by iether seafoam or the mither-of-sea, depending on who you ask. When it comes on land it looks like a human torso with an oversized head and arms that reach the ground fused to the center of the back of a one-eyed horse that breathes out a miasma that causes disease and drought. Oh, and the whole thing is a skinless mass of pusating muscle and ropey yellow veins. Basically you've got a small island running out of food and potable water as a creepy horseman stalks the lanes and beaches killing everyone who approaches.
