House of Fane CYOA?
Added 2024-10-19 17:00:53 +0000 UTCI asked you a while ago about additional Tales from Carousel, and you responded positively. I'm currently working on that, and I have an idea related to that I would like to pitch.
I was wondering if you all might appreciate a bit of collaborative storytelling like a choose-your-own-adventure. It wouldn't have the main characters in it, but I could potentially include side characters from the series. The idea would be that I write the storyline House of Fane, a story I have wanted to write but that didn't get voted for last year (Subject of Inquiry won out).
House of Fane is a tense mystery set in the desolate moors of southern Carousel, where the surviving Fane siblings and their spouses gather for a family reunion at their ancestral estate along with their charming patriarch. The purpose of the reunion is to discuss the future of the Fane family, but the atmosphere is thick with unease and odd behavior. Rumors have been circulating that the Fanehound—also known as the Cù Bhrònach, the mythical creature depicted on the Fane family crest—is not only real but has gone feral. Locals claim the beast is responsible for a string of recent disappearances and a wave of bad luck that has befallen the area, casting a shadow of fear over the reunion.
Patrons would get to suggest which players would be on the team and what strategies they would employ, as well as vote on their actions. I would make tropes for them and stuff like that. My only restriction is that I would not want too many meta tropes or archetypes and no advanced archetypes because I already know the story I want to tell.
Anyway, I'd love to hear your thoughts. I like the idea of working with readers on a storyline, but it would be complicated and risky for the main series. I think it would work for a side project. If this is your sort of thing, suggest player builds in the comments.
I'm open to ideas for the logistics if you all have any.

Yea, seeing more Final Girl's always appreciated!

2024-10-20 08:02:08 +0000 UTCI would love to see a proper gritty Scream Queen in action. Maybe someone who plays like the main character in You're Next? Scream Queen with a military background, it would be fun for the characters to get up close and personal with the killer, since we dont really get to see that with Riley's POV since he is squishy

2024-10-20 04:21:39 +0000 UTCWould this be before or after rescue removals? It’d be novel to see the solider aspects (also amusing since they’d be better for the beast I think not the social intrigue). Would be interesting to see different playstyles we haven’t seen at all or less likely to? Betrayal Tropes, Aspects that didn’t win in votes, or haven’t seen much of or in awhile? (Scholar with Eureka, higher level Psychic/Comedian, Final Girl comes to mind)

2024-10-20 01:26:03 +0000 UTCI think it sounds like a fun thing to do, and I like the whole hound of the Baskervilles as a story basis thing. I’d maybe suggest that it comes a littler slower to give the players time to debate. So make do like a biweekly drop on it

2024-10-19 21:01:52 +0000 UTCThe Slacker. Dropout who smokes weed, enstranged from family, but with other slacker friends. Is looked down at by all others, but raises to the occasion. Can raise other slackers to help. Knows a bit of all. Random practical knowledge. Stumbles into clues by not engaging seriously.
Slightly Morbid
2024-10-19 20:19:04 +0000 UTCan three outsider one wallflower group, and none of them ends up as any of the fane siblings. XD that would be fun.

2024-10-19 19:53:17 +0000 UTCSo there can be film buffs or players before Dyers Lodge era?

2024-10-19 19:51:23 +0000 UTCOh yea! Antiquarian could use some old trinket/artifact to seal Fanehound, or is this Warden AA job?

2024-10-19 19:44:47 +0000 UTCThough I would love to see more of bruisers!! We havent seen any bruiser in-action.

2024-10-19 19:40:13 +0000 UTCIt would be fun to see Craven Hysteric in house of fane party, since most of their tropes are about surviving/running and this storyline looks like its gonna be about a demonhound chasing you. Maybe an Beauty Eye Candy that actually fells in love with NPC date? Or an Stooge Comedian but NPC date stands up for him! Maybe an Critic Filmbuff and NPC date hates his comments and apologizes for him. Oh what about an newcomer Outsider with 'Pure' equipped that is the delivery man but gets caught up in the situation.

2024-10-19 19:38:52 +0000 UTCI would just like to see some archetypes who usually don’t see.

2024-10-19 19:25:49 +0000 UTCThat sounds great! It would be cool to see an Antiquarian in action for this tale (if that won't mess things up). There is a lot of opportunity to get into the complex connections between Black Dog myths and smuggling. Also, an Antiquarian mystery just sounds like a good read :-)
The Wyverns
2024-10-19 19:00:44 +0000 UTCWell, to do this properly, failure would have to be an option. In the main series, that might hamper things a bit. It would be set before the events of the series.

2024-10-19 18:02:14 +0000 UTCWould love to hear more about what risks you see this for the main series? I like the idea of this, want to understand a bit more of how it would work. Would this be in parallel to the main story? Or would it be a pseudo intermission before returning to Riley and crew? Would the events of this story impact the main story vs being a one off? Excited either way, love the games/strategy element in story lines and seeing how the community would navigate such a scenario gets the competitiveness in me activated

2024-10-19 18:00:58 +0000 UTCI am curious in what other ways players can interact with the scenario, other than treating it as a game to win. This could be something we haven't seen from our protagonists. As a number of examples, players can: identify themselves with their role they almost forget it's not real, use the scenario for personal gratification, try to use the story for self-therapy, experiment with the game trying to derail it... A great advantage of side-stories is being able to do things you can't afford with your main cast, like antagonizing Camp Dyer and not reading your Writ of Habitation carefully.

2024-10-19 17:52:19 +0000 UTCIt would be interesting to use a recently revived team later on down the road that is clashing with the main characters. Imagine that they just got revived after getting betrayed by either NPCs or fellow players and they do not trust the main characters or accept their reasonings for why things went the way they did. We will be able to see their mental confusion and distrust towards everything and everyone unravel while they have to navigate a challenging storyline that has a focus on distrust, misfortune, and betrayal. Not sure what players I would bring, honestly doesn’t matter who goes as long as they are in conflict with the main characters and Carousel as a whole.

2024-10-19 17:41:58 +0000 UTCNot my thing, but I won't be a party pooper if others will have fun and it doesn't take months.
Slightly Morbid
2024-10-19 17:16:57 +0000 UTCPersonally, I would like to see characters with an unbalanced group. Like three outsiders and a wallflower. Or a group that clashes with the story, like an all comedian group.
