Checking in
Added 2024-07-04 19:23:53 +0000 UTCWe are officially on the Friday/Monday schedule.
In the future, I will try to make it so that storylines take around a few weeks to post instead of months. I felt like the stories didn't have the impact they could have if they hadn't taken so long to get out. I feel full of writing energy and am ready to let it out!
The Tutorial was kind of restrictive, and now I feel like things have freed up. Always feel free to ask for things you want to see. While this book is pretty well planned out, I am very flexible and you might just inspire me!
PS. I would appreciate it if you could tell me what you liked and didn't like about the Tutorial, as I plan on editing it soon. Thanks.

I would personally say the tutorial did what it should: it taught the players how to play before they made any ‘permanent’ decisions. Like sure on one hand they didn’t start the line and it feels like going backwards but what they did do was finish the tutorial opening up all their options. They can now rescue folks, choose a through line themselves, investigate the many mysteries, or even just take a bit to relax. They have gained a bit more freedom, and that is currently very valuable.

2024-07-05 01:35:57 +0000 UTCI thought the tutorial was awesome overall, and especially as things were wrapping up, the quality was so high. A lot of people have mentioned the length, but I think with how everything was framed and the specialness of it, the length really fit. I wouldn’t really want that for every storyline, but it was excellent here. I think one thing I’d like to have a little more clear is that the groundhog dayness of the tutorial had nothing to do with project rewind. I think the fact that the years were close to matching in terms of players first entering carousel from our world made me conflate the two things for a while. Obviously we find out about Ramona triggering a storyline later on, but it’d be nice to be clear before that that the tutorial is a very distinct creature.

2024-07-04 22:41:18 +0000 UTCI gotcha. I might give it some resolution in the edit. I think it's too late now.

2024-07-04 20:16:04 +0000 UTCOne thing i would like to see if there is going to be any resolution to the plot thread of Bobby deliberately setting up Issac to be captured in the second tutorial story. I wouldn't mind it gettting cut, but as it is currently it seemed like a setup for conflict that never got brought up again. I can't really see how it comes up naturally at this point.

2024-07-04 20:10:43 +0000 UTCYeah I definitely feel kind of lost with hwo long it was. if it was shorter i might have been able to keep track of it easier. I think the pacing of the first arc was perfect. doesn't mean you have to keep it that way but I think shorter storylines will help

2024-07-04 19:52:51 +0000 UTCMainly what I wanna see from them now that we aren’t in the tutorial is initiative from the players. Mostly Riley but the others can obviously contribute as well. This first mission and the fact they aren’t just jumping into Sylas’s throughline because it’s available and Romona is being obstinate is a great start. I know she has every right to be her family is stuck in there as far as she knows, but it’s nice to see them not being led along just because of a single characters desires or a grand plan beyond their understanding or the vets plans for them for once.

2024-07-04 19:46:51 +0000 UTCand just to clarify, I still enjoy the story, I don't think that the tutorial is *bad*, this is just my thoughts on the most recent arc.

2024-07-04 19:46:17 +0000 UTCThe tutorial just took a lot of time to play out, which wasn't a problem overall because it was, in theory, learning more about the setting and the underlying mystery fo the game. But then, at the end of it all, the payoff was "Just kidding, mystery hasn't advanced at all." which was really frustrating as a reader. I think if the tutorial stories had been run through faster, or if the reveal had been something slowly coming across the entire tutorial where the players slowly realized that they were being pushed to this but couldn't figure out how to stop it or something it would have been much more enjoyable. This feedback is, of course, from someone that read each chapter as it came out. It might not feel like it drags out as much if it's all available to read at once, but I do think the plot twist reveal feels a bit like a rug pull.

2024-07-04 19:31:41 +0000 UTCNow that you mention it, I agree. I think what I felt was so compelling when I first found carousel was how each storyline was a few chapters long. Long enough to be Intriguing without dragging on. Perfect pacing. Excited to see what you come up with. I’m still keen to see what stories are associated with what omen items from the poll a way back. Also interested to see who in the party will get the first advanced archetype and what it might be 👀 as well as everyone else.
