1.15 Preview #1 | Redesigning the Game Page

Hello!

Now that 1.15 has been in-development for a few weeks, I wanted to start sharing some of the significant changes in detail as part of an expanded version of the monthly blog posts. You can check out July's blog here if you haven't already: https://backloggd.medium.com/developer-update-july-2025-6a76ee8baae4

But this time I wanted to go over the changes being made probably the most important page on the site, the Game Page

[First screenshot is 1.15, second screenshot is current]

As editions are making their way into the rest of the site, they needed a place to display on the game page as a way to connect them to their parents and vice-versa. Honestly that is pretty difficult to do in today's version as elements are all over the place with the current "column" layout. So this redesign is following a similar lead to the home page and log editor in making everything a bit more linear as part of a "row" layout. It already feels a lot better not having to dart my eyes around trying to read a game page with this new direction. This does need to be balanced to not feel too empty or else the page could end up being really long, so it's a working idea.

Doing this layout change also lets me include some heavily requested features such as average playtimes, relationships to DLC and more already built-in which will be great. The tabbed sectional of games seen at the bottom is already an improvement to exploring more games directly related to the one you're viewing.

What you see in the screenshot is definitely still work-in-progress as I find ways to balance each of the elements. Taking the currently open survey on the game page will help directly influence these placements so be sure to take it if you haven't already: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScP65icrDCzhoMCcxX78MZVQ8QUTkFxsP3z_jmGB0_EQ6nV8w/viewform?usp=header

Excited to share more as I make further progress, but that's all for this time!

Best,

MrProg

It looks good; definitely an improvement over the previous design. The only thing that's a little off is the log controls, which make the left side of the screen look empty. I don't really have a problem with the position, since the fact that this element will move when you scroll will be very useful, but perhaps something you could do is alter the design a little so that the log controls are a little larger (like the cover or the option to view all your logs related to that game)

Will there be a way to sort our backlog according to time to beat? Kinda like how we can sort by release date or average rating etc. Would be great to find games that don’t take long to beat.

Saraaahhhh

Great website, by the way. I've fallen in love with it.

I don't know if this is something that escapes the scope of what you're capable of, like this might be a problem with IGDB more so than you. Some games are listed as remakes/ports/whatever of other games when they really aren't. For example, Donkey Kong 3 (Game & Watch, 1984) is listed as a port of Donkey Kong 3 (Arcade, 1983). But they are entirely different games. The original is a high score based action game, and the other is a competitive shooter. I recognize this is incredibly niche and minor, but I've seen more examples of this. Will there be a way to separate certain titles? Like maybe users could submit a report to have 2 games reviewed for separation?

can’t wait for the merging of game editions 🙏 especially since the switch 2 released the switch 2 versions being separate is kinda annoying 😭 love the new look of the game page tho it looks great
