Zombie Pirate Animatronic UPDATE!

Okay so we pivoted a little... :) We realized with what we'd built so far that it would read a lot better as a drunken pirate swaying back and forth with a bottle and sword than just a zombie coming out of the ground. Also we just love pirates...........so you know how it is!

So now we have...the ZOMBIE PIRATE ANIMATRONIC!

Instead of coming out of a mound of dirt he'll be propped up against something with a bottle of rum and his legs sticking out in front of him. Also one of the legs is broken so we'll give him a peg leg somehow... :D The lunchbox mechanism will basically be his waist/pelvis and be covered by clothing.

Spent the last couple of days figuring out the right pose and tweaking the mechanism to get the motion right. His sword arm swings free so it has a nice secondary motion to it as he moves around. We also added a speed controller to dial in the speed of the swaying. The plan is also to hook up a prop controller so instead of just a constant sway we can animate it a bit and some lifelike motion.

Jaimie has also been continuing to practice her corpsing/grossification techniques. So far this one has been stained to a deep brown dirt color and then she used the blow dryer + barge glue technique to start to create some layers of stuff.

We're going for something out of Pirates of the Caribbean (the first one) so instead of just a skeleton it's more of a fleshy, rotted zombie kind of thing. That means lots of layers and all kinds of fun techniques!
