Hi guys.

There didn’t seem to be much to illustrate this week since we were too useless to take pics of the cars we saw on the street, and there was nothing much to link to unless you really want to hear Robert Palmer’s terrible version of I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight (in association with UB40). So instead we thought this was a good opportunity to ask you, our brilliant Patrons, what you’d like from Smith and Sniff in 2025. Anything you want us to do more of? Anything you’d like us to stop doing or change? Whatever the suggestion, we’re all ears. Just leave your thoughts in the comments. And all that.

Comments

Same here. And there a lot of interesting cars around too.

Gordon Moar

Also, I sent you guys/flutes a S&S movie concept (in “Mustang Country” comments. I must say seeing you guys @ the mini factory was a highly serendipitous moment. I moved to leafy Oxford last year & purchased a clubvan, then you guys topped it off by smashing the shield out of that live show💪 Also, have info on an Iron Maiden Punto & probably the cheapest Zoe coming on the market (tempted Johnny, you are running a little lean on cars at the moment 👊) Seriously, you guys don’t need to change anything apart from the things that I’ve suggested… Keep up the sweet, sweet sweetness 🫡

Richard Parkinson

What about inviting on the king of modern flutists! https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5228e452e4b001e9ac04859b/1589577949431-EWHJG38ZIS30HUXD9Y84/SirJamesGalway.jpg

Richard Parkinson

A video or 2 here and there would be a nice call back if the mood takes you. Otherwise don't change things to suit anyone but yourselves, particularly 'less of this' or 'more of that' (apart from the above) requests. If you sway to suit the few, you's wont be you. And in a way, you'd be doing what i want - so don't do that either. CMTMAGY.

Firstdan2000

Extremely loud drum’n’bass that you couldn’t turn off, windows permanently wound down, and acrid smoke billowing out of them. Full 90s Bristol Spec (B-Spec?).

Rich S

Yeah, was the 20 years, 20 songs, 20 quid tour. Only did 14 songs, someone was counting. What happened to the Chavalier after it was recovered? CMTMB

Jon

And another that just popped into my head is the Marina Market, a trendy food market in a section of the old Ford factory right on the docks in Cork. Huge amount of food options and they have a open Event Space that wpuld hold a sizeable collection of sweet, sweet people

Cian Donnellan

Lot of great venues, but don't discount Cork, the Southern Capital. We have Coughlans (Pub come venue) that'd hold 150ish, the Spailpin (Bar with room over) that takes 200ish, The Pav which is a funky pub/venue that'd take 300, Cyprus Avenue which is a concert venue for up to about 450 and then The Everyman Theatre is an easy 600 people, all within a 10 min walk and with an airport just out the road. Consider it the better Dublin 😆

Cian Donnellan

Belfast Waterfront Hall is a nice venue but maybe a bit big?

Stuart Feltham

Sweet sweet episode. Completely agree about the FN2 being the best looking CTR by a long margin. Imagine a modern one with the chassis, engine & box of an FK8...

Matthew Carpenter

I drove by a Walgreens [{Drug Store) here in the USA] and they had on their sign "ASK ABOUT FLU TEST". But the U was scooted a bit too far right and I read ASK ABOUT THE FLUTEST! (I know it's not a word, but it totally fits here!).

Kevin Perham

Live show in the Midlands please, either JLR or Aston Martin in Gaydon would be perfect. As others have said, I'd like the occasional video but I know it's more hassle to do those. Keep up the great work you SSG's.

Simon Clarke

live show in the US. specifically NJ. near my house.

Zoona

Do a live show in Sydney

steve dawkins

Tell us Richard what all the drama was with the Rangie!

steve dawkins

Will 2025 be the year Richard tells us what happened with his Land Rover?

Peter Bell

90 on a G. For me that was reference for a big bumper mark 2 Golf GTI

Ciaran Challis

Richard - please spill the beans on the collecting cars story you flute. CMTMB

Leigh Caller

Enjoyed the pub walk ASMR car safari episode👍 Great addition to the content.

Andrenalino

Don't change a thing, you SSGs. END OF, SIMPLE AS. Cheersmatethanksmateallgoodyeah

Ben Lucareli

If you’ve got any suggestions for suitable venues in Dublin and/or Belfast we’re all ears.

Smith and Sniff

Maybe a Welsh show, they make some awful 4x4 Astons here, great venue probably?

Andy Faulkner-Clegg

Good idea, I was hoping Rich would pop up on the last 2CV video episode 3 / 4

Andy Faulkner-Clegg

What was special about it

Robert Smith

Irish Show! Need to get ye across to this side of the world. We can definately find an appropriate venue

Cian Donnellan

Did you know that in Bristol Vauxhall released a special edition Adam F?

Michael Langston

Don’t change a thing. What made this podcast great was you SSGs just being yourselves. So don’t change anything. Sure for overseas listeners they’ll tell you don’t make references to random things from the UK in the 80s, but it’s honestly all those little things you both say that make me laugh out loud, because we, the listener, grew up with those things too. CMTMB

Ciaran Challis

Don’t bow down too much to the video demands, HOWEVER a quarterly road trip video might be cool. Otherwise the cast is just right.

TD

Also LHD

TD

When in Bath, keep a look out for my old friend’s 996 Carrera 4, in deep blue, with the Camel coloured interior. Well worn, but equally well loved, it’s a 2000 on the W.

TD

Yep. Hamburg would be perfect, only a couple of hundred km from me. Berlin further, but even better, would give me an excuse to visit my favourite city :)

Chris Squirrel

Is it weird to want to know which pub you went to so those who know Bath can picture your route?

Dom

It’d get beached on the mountain!😂

Robert Smith

Festival of the Unexceptional 2025 walkaround video.. Lots of talking & pointing, etc... 🏁

Kevin Cochrane

We want to know about the Range Rover Richard! CMTMB

Bosco

Also, Misty Still-Night? A Celica Lady.

Brendan McAleer

Bring back some video format content

Alec

Jonny’s shoes made me think i had a knock on my commute home today i had forgotten that he had mentioned them earlier in the pod when on my way to work this morning. 😆🙄😬🫣

craig webster

Techron.

cpucpuc

More Malbec!

Alex Packer

I need to rewatch the old-money London video when I get some spare time. The Lexus ES video driving around London was really good as well

David B

The Range Rover story has easily won by a landslide. Personally, I liked that back in Covid a lot more user stories were read. To this day I cannot see a clown without thinking of the story where one "flipped the bird" to the listener who sent his story in. I also like it when you both weigh in on topical subjects like the new JaGuaR etc. You are always very balanced and it is enjoyable. Hope you do some London Shows again. I have convinced the Better Half that it is a lovely, leafy way to spend a day or two... My son would of course love to come again as well. :-D

Andy Pinchock

Statute of limitations should have run out on most of mine methinks...

Andy Pinchock

A nice re-mix from time to time can't hurt can it?

Andy Pinchock

Hockenheim Ring does the "Hockenheim Historic" that aims to rival Goodwood, Silverstone and Spa. Falls a bit short BUT they have some really excellent DTM-based racing. I know the organizers very well (it's my local track) so I could make it happen. BELIEVE

Andy Pinchock

Live shows outside the UK!

Harry Lundström

Tell me the Range Rover story god damn you!

Ross Hetherington

Do you mean things like Techron or when Spotify sneaks ads in?

Andy Pinchock

Yeah like Germany... :D I know of several car museums with rooms suitable for such an event. Every town his its won brewery still and/or winery.,...

Andy Pinchock

Small correction: Tis Malbec Mechanic... ;-)

Andy Pinchock

I live in a winegrowing region and each village has a "wine wandering day". You pay 20€ and you can drink all the wine you want. Could be interesting using the Eagle Quest to get around to each village.... :-D

Andy Pinchock

More drunken Asimo chat please. CMTMB

Andrew Roberts

When are you going to do the Smith and Sniff car dealer stickers?

Andrew Cannon

Yes come to Sheffield we have literally dozens of cars here

Ben Oliver

I live just outside Bath and There is actually a LHD vr6 Sharan that regularly parks in the royal crescent. CMTMB

Barnes56

I would appreciate a Yorks/Lincs located live show if possible. When considering suitable locations - How about a ‘hot lap’ of Caldwell ‘Mini Nurburgring’ Park in the Eagle Quest???

Dave Harding

That video was my introduction to S+S. loved it. I still associate tastefully spec'd Range Rovers with Anglo-Swiss families needing to get little Hans-Peter back to boarding school.

Jim Galbraith

Love it as it is. I listen in the car so video content wouldn’t work for me. Richard, we do need to hear that Range Rover story….

Clegster

Brian, on line one..........

Matthew Aves

I'd happily pay a premium tier for a monthly or so video. Doesnt always have to be both of you like the olden days, could sometimes be things like Eagle Quest updates, or or even nonsense like a wine review or just a solo walkaround some town reviewing cars and local businesses names.

Joanna Burland

More TECHRON style ads please, if I'd not seen the plug on late brake show I'd have thought you'd made it up for a laugh

Duncan Dyer

What I would love is a live, late night radio style phone-in show. Fueled by Malbec of course. “This week we’re asking our listeners to call in with their stories of running themselves over”.

Wayne Brook

More video content like you used to have...

Willy Weedon

How about a special episode mash up of The Merlot Mechanic and Hammond’s Garage? Jonny and Richard tucked into two to three bottles of breakfast Merlot at the Wye Inn, before shambling down to The Smallest Cog to get to work on a couple of old Bentleys or a knackered 3 wheeler belong to a ‘mate’. Combined with Hammond’s legendary business acumen, hilarity ensues…

Rich S

Buying more dodgy old cars that you slightly regret (and attempt to keep secret from Mrs Sniff) please.

Rich S

Road trip video. Eagle Quest to a steam rally via Baldock Services or some such flutery.

Alex Thornton-Smith

Videos would be nice, maybe some TLBS with Richard now and again? Scrap yard hunting? OTOSOT is amazing and having two shows a week for the commute is awesome so please keep that up. Live shows in Yorkshire would be nice as I haven’t had the chance to go to one yet. So yes… video content, TLBS collaboration with Richard, scrap yard hunting or both Richard and Johnny visit a place similar to where Johnny went in a video a few weeks/month back where they had cars on shelves and live shows in Yorkshire. Actually…guys….not to many vids. Maybe once every outlet months. Like a mini special.

Marcus

That's awesome mate!

Trevor Farley

I went to the Morgan factory live show at Malvern. Well worth the journey 👍

Sam Houghton

I recovered the Chavalier, sadly sans GLC, from Nottingham on the evening of the mag shoot after the alternator failed outside of Rock City. Got a fair few looks with it on the truck!

Sam Houghton

Was that the greatest hits tour? Fancied going to see them for that but now I'm not so sure CMTMB

Trevor Farley

Yeah, it's funny hey. I don't mind CMTMB, but 60's guy makes me cringe. Each to their own :) I loved the Alan Sugar bit Jonny used to do years ago.

The Caterer

Yes, basically Nottingham for a live show! I'm having to drive all the way to Manchester

Jon

I saw the chain late last year. Not aged well, after some members leaving they've changed loads of songs, even the backing tracks. The lidl track suit was very amusing though. Saw them back in the day and they were brilliant.

Jon

Some videos like you used to make would be great. I know both you flutes are busy guys, so a quarterly video special would be awesome. CMTMB from Melbourne, Australia.

Thomas E

If I’ve a wish for 2025, it’s to get the Franchitti brothers on a ‘cast. I can’t stop thinking about Dario lapping Goodwood while seeing the steam engine display and muttering “I’ll do that all day.”

Brendan McAleer

The occasional video of you two wandering around fields and pointing at cars might be nice. Only if you feel like it, no rush or anything, and obviously not at Goodwood cos that’d be stupid, just stupid.

Kay Challis

Road Trip Video!

david marden

Listening to you two is so much fun! Keep up more of the same.

Jennifer Albert

Less dog licking noises in 2025 please - for headphone users that was a tough one lol

Paul Driver

Noooooooooooooo like and subscribe is amazballs. My kids sing it all the time. Please don’t change the song. Best one ever

Robert Smith

Flutery. Excellent

Robert Smith

That ties in with my thought that maybe OTOSOT, as brilliant as it is, has focused on the questions and means that the other letters don’t get read out as much on the main pod. That could be selective memory on my part, though.

Matt Tester

Now that would be epic, I'm going in October in my ForFour be interesting to see who goes faster 😂

Emmajg

Jonny, tell us the spoon story...

Michael Jarvis

Hehehe basically in Nottingham always makes me giggle also reminds must pop up to Warhammer not been in ages

Emmajg

I love all the voices and silliness as it's them, not sure if it would be the same. I guess it's up to them as like them just being themselves with those amazing imaginative characters, etc..

Emmajg

Mainland Europe then.

Chris Squirrel

Both of you at Le mans 2025 on the late brake show

Ashley Foster

More music chat! Serious and unserious obviously...

Paddy Harvey

Statesman!

Robert Smith

Dublin is Europe

Robert Smith

Vigilante vehicle modification?

Robert Smith

Only thing is to stop apologising for chatting too much car shit. I *want* to hear Rich going on about the funny story behind the development of the Rover 75 wiper arms, or Johnny giving us another glimpse into the seemingly endless array of interesting cars he has owned, and the even more interesting ways he has acquired or disposed of them.

Gordon Moar

I think you should consider a twitch stream live recording of the podcast maybe once a month , it’ll be fun once setup and an easy additional source of revenue as your listeners can use a ‘free’ subscription included if they have amazon prime account once a month . Get some bezos bucks lads , wont cost us anything! Its a gap in the market i reckon!

Graham Beatty

Funny how some stuff annoys but it's a favourite among others. Personally, I've never liked CMTMB. It just grates. 🤷‍♂️

Andrew Armstrong

Live show in Europe :)

Chris Squirrel

Yep, this. A little like their drive around leafy, leafy London looking for old-money cars a couple of years back :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8rEdcZlS-Y Not otherwise a fan of video podcasts so I'm fine with sticking to the existing format for the most part.

Chris Squirrel

More live shows please and how about letting a guest on the show to talk bobbins (Plato,Tiff,Weber)

Warwick Brooker

Not a S&S but I think Jonny should take Richard along for his next BL barn find or to a car cave with obscure/non exotic cars. I think Richard’s nerdery would work really well on the videos.

Stephen Brown

No ads in "ad-free" patreon episodes please.

cpucpuc

I have just bought a new descant recorder so I can do a shittyflute overdub of the overdubs, All I need is an important deadline and I'll be straight on it.

Ben Rodway (DJ Polonez Skyline)

The Smoking Tire is the best format. I know you're not near each other, but on a "zoom / teams" would allow you to cut in photos of cars in a live styleeee. Top 3's are always fun too.... A cliche but would illustrate differences or similarities..... Top 3 limo's, old person spec cars, first cars, small prod, sub 50 BHP, sub 10k but interesting, from the Nordics etc.... the community would give you many to answer.

Glyn Smith

Assuming they take their coach built limo, the road trip could be called the Eagle Quest. Maybe to find eagles, I dunno.

Matt Tester

Agreed on the eating, drinking, 60s voice and to add the hourly chime on Johnnie's watch

Adrian J

Road trip video to the Nurburgring. Lets see which one you SSG's gets the best lap time in the Eagle Quest!

Chris

This! When are you SSG's coming to Ireland?

Chris

A longer format road trip with pods and a bit of video. Publish the route in advance for meeting points in the style of Cars and Coffee(so obviously held at silly early times in the morning).

Campbell Mackie

Yep agreed, Sorry Craig but we love Scchhicsties guy / Brian Sewell

Adam

Tidy

Adam

Hi guys, Another vote for having you flutes in front of the camera. Would personally enjoy another Field of Dreams video or a video of the both of you driving through Bristol spotting 90's gems. CMTMB.

Andrenalino

Great fun me and my mate always would take different routes back from the pub and obsess about different standard cars we used to love a Mark II Cortina in Blaby, Leicestershire is royal blue.

Andy Lees

For the love of god please just tell the Range Rover story so we can all move on with our lives…and no Dallas ‘it was all a dream’ flutery…we want facts! Keep doing what you’re doing with S&S - I look forward to listening each week. SSG’s to a man, CMTMB x

James Davies

Your podwork is excellent, but I always find myself hankering for a real throwback. Please could we have some more Tiff Needell through a vocoder, yeah. CMTMB you SSG's.

Michael Lyth

Two words: First word: Range. Second word: Rover.

Paul Renowden

A couple of videos a year would be fab. I'd love a classic services meet. Was also thinking something like Jonny being chauffeured around Bristol by Richard in the Eagle Quest, hunting for the 90s artefacts

David B

Full history of the Burberry Cavalier please as much info as poss and does Johnny still keep in touch with any of the chain?

Trevor Farley

Amusing fact about Elkie Brookes: Elkie’s brother, Tony Mansfield (Bookbinder), was the original drummer for Billy J Kramer and The Dakotas in the 1960s, and played on the number one hit Little Children.

Steve Morton

Ask Jonny to talk about the back story to his TV series Lazy Boy Garage. Bound to be some stories for the podcast in that. Mainstream TV didn’t seem to like the format, but I thought it was pretty good.

Neil C

I’d love to hear more fifth gear/ max power/ Evo etc back stories. Even include things we may not have likely known either of you had either done, worked for or been in 🤙🏼

Ollie Barlow

I fear the story of the Range Rover sale is becoming the “what happened on the fishing trip” tale!

Andrew D Robinson

Another thought I had was finally getting Johnny’s Dad or even brother on the pod, I can imagine they would make for very good vids. I’m all for an occasional vid too, maybe some kind of Late Brake S&S combo where you both tinker with The Eagle Quest or some kind of road trip

Michael Gadie

Live show in Ireland

John Lynch

Would it be possible to see any video outtakes or deleted clips for Patreons only? I remember at the end of one of the podcasts there was audio of Jonny doing his 'Lude impression that isn't in the video. So I assume there's loads of video on the cutting room floor.

Stuart Richards

Id love you to do a show somewhere in the NE of Scotland! 🤣 But seriously guys hey guys... Just keep being Smith and Sniff. The format is brilliant. Gives me something to look forward to twice a week. Just love to hear more funny memories from your past. Stay fluteish. CMTMB

Chris Main

Keep doing what your doing, I save the early release POD for my Monday morning drive to work, it cheers me up. I realise that they're logistically difficult but a few videos would be good - I rewatched the Bond Car Bingo recently and we need another Hunting Old Money Cars film. From a selfish point of view, another live show around the Midlands would be good as I'm basically in Nottingham.

Sam Houghton

I think your on your own with the 60s voice, definitely become a fan favourite

Harley Crack

Plus one for the YouTube vids, I think Richard should be made to drive each one of Jonny’s hoard of cars and provide honest unfiltered feedback on air.

Ben Hanford

That’s a really good shout, do love a good sniff production symphony

Harley Crack

Discounts on Merch and Live Show tickets if you’re a Patreon? Even 5% might be enough to sway a few of us minge bag Northerners. See you in Manchester. I’m the one grimacing in a parka.

David Phillips

I have quite a few but it will be "Don't read my name out"

Nigel Hancock

Things to stop in 2025…. Eating and drinking slurping and slopping down the mic’s… makes some shows almost unlistenable…and definitely we’re well done with “the 60’s” voice…for the love of god stop.. Please carry on the listeners letters and responses… the live shows, the one-man shows (with a bit of notice for relevant q’s) are always great, the occasional drift into car discussion in the main pod (maybe just limit to 5 mins 😂) are always welcome… New things, maybe an occasional guest for a separate special show once every few months…may have to extend the guest amnesty list though, maybe some themed shows for the Friday where you get patreons to send questions or stories related to a theme…🤷🏻‍♂️

Craig Lowe

Richard, if you want to procrastinate more from 'real' responsibilities, could we have a new song at the end of the pod? I did enjoy hearing the added listener overdubs over time. but it could get out of hand so who knows?

Robert Murdoch

How about a couple of YouTube videos with you both in. Perhaps going to oddly named English villages? Giving the back story of the flutes they are named after?

Dave Carter

Small point, but I can’t remember the last time a John Peel session reference was made. A lot of opportunities go begging I think

Michael Gadie

Don't be shy about doing ads or commercials (TECHRONNN) We're happy you're getting advertiser support and you're making them fun to listen to!

Robert Murdoch

The next time you SSGs need to miss making a new podcast, how about preparing for that eventuality with one of old clips based on “The Best of the Sixties, and All That”.

Michael Machnee

This 🛐🙏🏻🛐🙏🏻🛐🙏🏻🛐🙏🏻😂😂😂😂

Robert Smith

Keep doing what you’re doing but we really want to hear Richard’s Range Rover story 😃CMTMB

Richard Bruce

That’s a really good idea!

Smith and Sniff

Jonny, next time you're staying at Richard's, please could you both take flash cameras into the street and get photos of the rogue open-piped moped rider as he (safe assumption) passes. Maybe we can track it down and carry out a guerilla fitment of a silencer to it, in the dead of night.

Fergus McIver

Wishes for 2025? What if you set up a camera to record you guys some of the times you happen to do a pod in the same room? Doesn't have to be a high quality shoot, just a camera with two flutes in front of it. That will capture some of that old S&S video energy 🙂

Robin Johnsen

Yay

Nicky Ellis

Instead of listeners questions on a Friday. Can we do a listeners confessions instead occasionally?

Robert Smith

Sorry no ideas for 2025, though just keep doing you, thank you for always making me laugh with all the bobbins.
