Patreon preview - new ending music

Hello gang. Richard here with a bit of Friday nonsense. I thought we needed some new ending music for the podcast and that, for no real reason, it should be a sort of medium-paced ballad-style song. I think it might have been because I’d heard Just Like Jesse James by Cher and/or watched that excellent Netflix documentary about the making of We Are The World. Anyway, this week I was desperately avoiding doing actual work and came up with this. Appearing soon in a podcast near you.

Have a great weekend.

Any chance on a hardcore D&B mash up? Loving it though!

AndyM

At least in the old days you could leverage it into advertising for whatever that mob was before the show ;-) This is a lovely variation.

Matt Stanford

The level of work avoidance is genuinely commendable

Dan W

Me too!

Lloyd K-G

Long time listener/viewer first time Patreon supporter. You got me with the effort you put into the new song. Still love the old outro too.

Adam

Amazing 😍

Steve Hay

#breakingbadbodydisposalservices

Adam

Flippin awesome!! Love it!!

Lorne Smyth

Definitely an album ending track. It is 70s vibes I'm sniffing (no pun, etc), with only the barest hint of cheese.

Foxy

With a Tesco bag full of shit in the distance

TD

I can see a music video to accompany with a soft focus Renault Fuego driving off …

Mark

Cult vibes

Richard Edwards

I hope at the next live show to see a sea of lighters in the air as this plays out. In the background plays a black and white montage of Jonny trying desperately to start a barn find MK4 Zodiac with a poorly Essex 3.0.

John Hammond

Comfortably dumb! lol love it!

Michael k-b

Artistic!

Adam

When will we get a Smith n Sniff Live performance of all the classic tunes?

Damian

I got some ideas on them there pies... Audi Apple, Metro Mince, Orange Opel, Skoda Strawberry ..

Andy Pinchock

I think it’s fine starting off slow but needs to go all drum and base a minute in!

Peter Grogan

It's OK but I'm afraid its not as good as your seminal work, "Basically in Nottingham"

Nigel Hancock

I admire your creativity Richard, you clearly have some talent. Being honest, I don't get that warm fuzzy feeling that I would expect from closing lyrics. I get the "need" for liking, subscribing, reviewing and buying merch etc. but can we have a bit of love to go along with it (and maybe a teeny bit higher on the tempo)?! xxx

Wayne Brook

Definitely vibes of black & white footage of Jonny and his brother wandering through the auto junkyard on his birthday as old Rare, but Nobody Cares vehicles get plucked off the heap and cubed in the background.

Mike K.

This. 100% this.

Tomdo

When are you shooting the film clip for this song? I'm seeing white suit, white piano, choristers in the background?

Willy Weedon

The Rutles on a raised platform at some rural, overgrown and long forgotten racetrack, serenading a drifting and somewhat out-of-control Lada Samara Flyte, as two elderly men in black beanies, huddle under a tartan blanket, each with a tear in their eye.. Shot in sepia and slow motion, naturally.. On That Side of Things.... 🏁

Kevin Cochrane

Sounds like it would be the 'secret' last song on a Lightning Seeds album

Book of the Future

Nice sentiment, but what a load of shit ! stellantis it ain’t Nnn-tss, Nnn-tss, Nnn-tss

Will

I'm not sure what's just happened... 🤯

Chris Jarrett

Well that's just brightened up a wet Friday afternoon. 👍🏻 Top work Richard.

George Wade

Isn't that 'One Day' by SulzArt?

Peter Heamon

Needs a music video, Richard and Jonny skipping in slow motion, through rain

Rob

I think I have something in my eye

Ste

You need to do a mock breakfast TV interview set in 2044 where you’re asked about how you were inspired to write this anthem, 20 years ago today.

Jim Galbraith

It’s for a worthy cause people.

Jim Galbraith

Scratch my last comment about deadlines. This is sublime.

Rick Bean

I'm now listening to this instead of preparing a presentation for work...

Peter Heamon

Brilliant!

Bruno Tramontano

Is your Evo deadline is coming up fast?

Rick Bean

I wonder if any of the people that pay Richard actual cash monies knows this is what he gets up to when they're chasing deadlines :-p

MedicalFlyer

Wow, the layers! You’ve really procrastinated the heck out of this thing. I mean, you could have gone even harder with some wailing guitar really low in the mix just to make those hours disappear

Rikard Ottosson

Oh that brings a tear to my....

Simon Houghton

Are you procrastinating from doing actual work again Richard? Brilliant outro 👌🏻

Dean Hempshall

There was a deadline due wasn't there...

Gigavox!

Midway when Ionny’s listing the merch, I caught a whiff of Pink Floyd’s The Wall. Or am I crazy?

Chris Armstrong

It's shit.....OTSOT

Paul Fargher

Wow, what was it that you were supposed to be doing, probably for financial recompense, that you fucked off to pull this beauty out of your grey?

Adam Kiddle

Genius! I appreciate the classic lazy fade out.

Kristof Kiraly

Incredible work, I can already picture the overly soft-focused video for this.

Tigran Khamoian

Superb. Right up there with the much-missed Car and Classic advert song

Alex Fell

Wonder if there’s a section of the podcast awards devoted to epic podcast outro’s? Sweet sweet outro

Daniel Brown

How much is a session vocalist? Only Dennis is capable of both writing and singing the theme toon.

Simon Smyth

Wonders if there are any other songs with an OTSOT? Possibly not, so for that reason, this is genius! 👍🏻

Kevin Rushton

A sweet sweet song

Stephanie Harrigan

Sublime

Tom Lanigan

I'm getting a vision of seas of mobile phone lights, swinging in unison in front of a polygonal stage (not a pyramid, that's taken) in basically Somerset... That's some premium grade work avoidance, right there 😂 Also, as a lapsed musician myself, you are annoyingly good at this stuff, Mr Sniff 😘👏

Stuart Maxwell

If there’s more work to be avoided in future, do consider making a MV out of this lol

Wilson Lin

It's got a John Grant vibe. But then the cast is the GMF after all !

Fistenburger

I didn’t know we needed the answer to the question: what if Kate Bush and The Smiths made a song but here we go.

Adam McConkey

He'll do that all day, ya know!

Ronnie Whelan

I just played this to two Japanese exchange students. “Wow, nice song”.

Matthew Pointon

Was about to say something similar. Clearly procrastinating.

Tim Wood

Still getting to grips with Auto-Tune Rich? 😂

Newark Jr

You Sir, are, a ‘creative’.

Dandydandan

So moving and heartwarming... And as a drummer, I appreciate the cliche fills...

Stephen Hollingsworth

Wasted talent Richard, wasted talent, my ‘down time’ is never this fruitful!

Noel Huggett

Amazing 🥲

Matt Taylor

Richardagainagainagainagain

Rupert

Richard is writing songs. This can mean only one thing.....He has some really important writing todo

Thinfourth

An excellent piece of work avoidance (although the last 45 seconds does remind me of the piano section of Layla and where they find all the dead bodies in GoodFellas)

MarkWilliams

Great work, sounds like a collaboration between The Flaming Lips and rent a ghost.

David Nickolls

Third

Adam

Got some writing deadlines to avoid?

Mike Follows

Looking at the attached picture, I was waiting for Sting to pipe in with, “the bitter sting of tears…” OTSOT Spoowwaat-aah!

Richard Fitton-Perkins

Ethereal. Just needs an 8 bar slow wailing guitar solo, with heavy reverb.

Tom Howroyd

Or take acid and listen at 0.5. Proper fear and loathing!

Adam

Perfect distraction from doing work

Simon Whittaker

Chemical toilets have some very powerful chemicals in them and so do the tanks we empty then into

Nathan Henstock

I can hear Lionel Richie’s influence all through this. Just missing Cyndi Lauper’s solo

Myron Vernis

Just perfect. Liking your Elton John impression, Richard!

Richard Fitton-Perkins

Providing you havent been nicked for that contract killing

Adam

Sublime

David Saunders

By the end of the year I hope you'll have an album to release (and a Christmas single). On the subject of music, have you heard the new song by Kings of Leon called Mustang? It's got a line in it that goes "There’s a Mustang in the city and it's calling me out". Wondered what Mustang and what city it could be? Vee-hicle related of course

Andrew Cannon

My god, this is beautiful

Willy

The cult of Smith and Sniff anthem!

HAP

Cheesetastic Richard! Please tell me that back in the day, you got a grade A for GCSE music composition. Because if you didn’t, you were robbed sir!

Kevin Webb

Looking forward to the Stellantis mix of this

Nipam Shah

Excellent

Paul Eden

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Adam

In an effort to avoid doing any actual work on a Friday too, as soon as I spotted the Patreon notification I had to down tools and have a listen.

Formula Whine

I encourage you all to listen at 1.75 times as well. Strangely entrancing, like Madonna’s song, when played, backwards encouraging devil worship. On that side of things.

Martin Laver

You really didn't want to do the work did you !! Great effort

AL Dickens

I'd guess the work you've been avoiding is spectacularly important judging by the care and attention to detail in the layering of these tracks!

Jem Barnard

Unique podcast ending Find another!

CB

You guys should definitely charge more for patreon. This is premium content.

Kristis

I'm a coach driver and promise to find a short sleeve shirt and waistcoat to wear it with, probably woolarding the tag axle on full lock

Nathan Henstock

Reading about you avoiding work now has me listening also avoiding work. Ffs haha

Paul Gaish

40 seconds in and I found myself waving a lighter in the air, which came as a surprise as I don't own one. That's the magic of a light-to-medium weight pop ballad.

Ian Phillip

Richard spends so much time making music to avoid doing actual work that he should become a professional 'artist' to rival DJ Khaled.

Julian Hale

The Manchester music scene really missed out when you decided to go into television

Adam

The unmistakable sound of midi. The ties should be a discreet yellow and black stripe with an S&S monogram at the bottom, on the back it should say "on the back side of things" or some sort of pun of that nature

Nathan Henstock

This is grade A, top-tier nonsense!

Alec

Golden Buzzer moment

Andy Faulkner-Clegg

Beautiful

Richard Major

Looking forward for the "Sniff and Pervert Pies"

Gavin Wells

Why do I like this a bit too much 😂. Excellent work!

Robin Lewis

Deadlines? Fuck Deadlines...

david marden

Could have done with a picture of you with earphones just on one ear looking very heartfelt

Martin Johnson

I hope Adam Buxton listens to this gold, he'd be proud!

Andy N

Bring on the pies!

Iain Lyons

Bring the back DNB remix, spat my tea out at my desk when it came on

Gabriel Grist-Parker

First

TD

Excellent work avoidance Rich… I shall now skilfully avoid work by listening to it!

Adam

I wish my procrastination proved so fruitful…. 😂
