Podcast 196 - Smashing up a Lexus with a drainpipe

Jonny’s kids have been playing Street Fighter 2. Also in this episode, a listener sends in sensational info about the cars of the Corrs, intrigue about the new Lexus LM, an alternative meaning for Alphard, showing love for the MX-5, mishearing Bob Marley, nocturnal Beetling, Enya’s Maybach, how they made mk1 Twingos, the state of facilities on the Eurotunnel, the quaint way people still say ‘wing mirrors’, fooling ChatGPT over Hondas, a review of the Jeep Avenger and amazing news about a very Smith and Sniff street in South Wales.

Hi chaps, what about getting the Lexus LM (or an old Lexus) on a road trip to Spowart Avenue?

David B

I just saw this in the Tiktok feed. You beat me to it.

I would've never thought that the Aquada was 20 years ago. The pictures on that site are hilariously early-2000s quality.

This just popped up on my newsfeed what are the chances..... you have to go to this....and then follow them back up to Dundalk with the BFF https://www.instagram.com/p/C3AH225oGO5/?igsh=cGg0bDh3eGFiemp6

Just as you mention amphibious MX-5’s - OTSOT’s - Richard Branson crossed the channel in 2004 in a car with 2nd gen MX5 headlights! I don’t think any other parts are shared however! https://www.hagerty.co.uk/articles/automotive-history/freeze-frame-bransons-cross-channel-car-crossing/

A good friend of mine races a Jeep Cherokee 2 door in the 24 hours of Lemons in Petty blue. It started out with a 4.0 straight six and now has a 5.3l LSX Chev V8

I had an MX5 California new in 1995! It was based on base spec with yellow paint, 15inch alloy wheels and Power steering as standard but still with wind up windows and about £1000 more than the base spec ! My dad had bought a brand new Suzuki Cappuccino 3 months earlier which we still have with 20,000 miles on it! He’s had to stop driving so I take him out in it on sunny days but will have to go soon. I sold the MX5 and bought a Honda Beat to make a set of Kei cars. After over 70 cars including a Lexus ls400 I now have an 08 Toyota Alphard which is the longest I’ve ever kept a car at 2.5 years as it’s the best do everything motor I’ve ever had!! Love the podcast and loved attending the Stellantis live show !

Yep I noticed this… I assumed they were typos

Has anyone read the comedy drivel on the Lexus LM website - assuming there is better attention to detail on the car itself... "reins of a hourse"??? "information soures"??? "single-dial emeter"??? TAZUNA COCKPIT To make the cockpit even more driver-centered, Lexus developed the Tazuna design concept. The Japanese work for ‘reins of a hourse’, Tazuna focuses on direct yet intuitive control. With information soures like the multimedia screen, single-dial emter and Head-Up display are controlled by minimal eye and head movement. Likewise, main switches and controls like Drive Mode Select can easily accessed.

My daughter has been driving alone for over a week and she has complained often about tailgating, fast passing and then hard braking idiots, usually in some German-brand car... So it is not reserved to older veeeehhhicles... BTW: Line/queue cutting is vicious in Germany. When a new cash register/till opens up it's like a VTEC turbo went off in the shopping cart & people sprint from the back to be first knocking over children & elderly. It's worst before Xmas: I have seen senior citizens shove toddlers aside. I have been known to feint going to the newly line opened line causing them to pause enough for me to ask the person in front of me if they would like to move over. I am also petty enough that should I notice someone behind me has jumped the line/queue to put my items on the conveyor belt veeerry slowly and then decide after rummaging in my wallet for cash to pay by card after all and lately to also remember I wanted to withdraw cash as well.. I wish everyone Merry Christmas of course. Especially in June. That keeps them from talking to me. I am a sad, sad person I know... :-D

Chat GPT, when read in French or with a French accent, sounds phonetically identical to ‘chat, j’ai peté,’ which translates as ‘cat, I farted.’

Ed Storer

Chat GP fucking T?:

Jono

Can we please find out more about her late Majesty ordering the Vectra? I need pictures to satisfy my thirst.

Where else can music critique be combed with mildly flutey driving styles! Another artist barely famous on their home country is of course „The Hoff“ David Hasselhoff‘s singing career which was quite successful here in Germany … Oh the calamity ….

If the MX-5 Jonny spotted was orange, then it is the special 30th Anniversary Edition colour, which was limited run. To my mind, the real tragedy is that Mazda hasn't done a properly British Racing Green ND, as it would so suit that car. If anyone feels like Googling it, one of the best recent special edition NDs was the Italy-only Yamamoto Signature. Nobuhiro Yamamoto was the lead on the ND program, and is An Dude, having done the RX-7 TT powertrain and been involved with the 787. Great guy. Wears a Seiko OTSOT. I would just like to add two things. 1.) Also from Dundalk, David McMurtry of the McMurtry Spéirling. 2.) Re: Honda and Mazda's Soul Red Crystal - in Japan, red passenger cars were illegal until Dr. Honda pushed through a change via a campaign in newspapers and lobbying the gov't for the S500 to be red. Before that, it was only allowed for fire engines and the like.

Funny you should mention misheard lyrics, I went back to listen to a bit of Florence + The Machine and in Dog Days Are Over there's a line 'Struck from a great height' but it definitely sounds like 'brake pipes' to me.

Just looked up Spowart Avenue and noticed there’s also a Spowart Drive in Dunfermline. Also, had a look for other S&S related places and found a seafood restaurant in Bath/Bath called ‘Flute’.

Those photos need discussing on next weeks pod!

I seem to remember people not having high hopes for Chernobyl because Craig Mazin was also responsible for The Hangover 3... he's done alright for himself since.

Coriander green is the one of the original Twingo colours. It's the best colour choice for me. I have a 1994 in that shade with folding fabric roof. It's extremely dent free but only because I imported it from Holland. Apart from a few deceased spec cars, all French Twingos look like they've lost a demolition derby.

It sounds like Jim Corrs should have a guest appearance on Evenflow! 😀

Natalie Imbruglia has been done over as it were. Basically in Windsor

I know a chap who had a bad back.. after years of living with it he decided to do something about it and made a rod to support himself when walking. around the same time my Maybach had a problem where the boot lid kept closing on its own, so I asked him if he could fashion me a rod to keep the boot open.... Thats right, not only did he make a rod for his back, but he made one for Maybach too........ .....I'll get my coat.

OMG I’ve just seen the weirdest art at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park by some mad Austrian called Erwin Wurm. You’d love it - a lovingly sculptured Mk II Golf squashed by a Bratwurst, a caravan with a hole to stick your arse out of (seriously) and the most perfect yet bizarre Renault 25 you’ve ever seen. Look them up! https://www.instagram.com/p/C28F6QAIVPx/?igsh=MTF2cG5vdnd6OWlxNQ==

Jonny should sell the Tokyo Taxi to whoever was offering to buy it … then grab that Vauxhaul. 😁

Looking forward to this one boys.
