Podcast 189 - Live at Stellantis

Jonny and Richard record in front of an audience at Stellantis HQ in Coventry where topics covered include companies that are or aren’t Stellantis, the Tesla Cybertruck, Mansell-themed eBay buys, the amusing names for types of bowler, other things called SD1, in-car cutlery, terrible uses for socks, good news about Natalie Imbruglia, bad news about Miami Vice, low value cars with high value number plates, the self-healing Boxster, and a dampener on Jonny’s enthusiasm for relieving himself outdoors.

Big up the Stellantis crew for hosting us and huge thanks to everyone who came along on Thursday night. N-tch n-tch n-tch n-tch etc etc

Did anyone else shout "stellantis or stellantisn't" for the first game , missed a sitter there lads. 😩

Graham Beatty

Does anyone have the link to the stroker/cranker piece that Richard read out?

Kenny May

2CV overloaded with bongo mags is definitely the Brinksmut robbery

John Hammond

Private plate chat checked out - twenty odd years ago my ex had a 1.0 Polo with V77 on it. Her dad was an antique dealer / bit of a scallywag and had a plethora of onteresting plates on ordinary cars.

Nick Davies

The government agency hosts online auctions where members of the public can bid for the right to use a particular number. You never actually own the number - you just get a certificate to use it. Then you can sell the certificate on the market (including eBay) if you wish

Ed Storer

Will there be a show notes for this week?

Harry Panther

Surely, the quiz should've been called Stellantis or Stellantisn't...

Nick Davies

Somewhat more obscurely, “Dogbox” is also the term used in the seismic geophysical survey business for the control cabin/vehicle used to control the survey and record the survey data.

Scott

Engineering/Motor company gossip. Lionel Ritchie has opened All night long and Onions....

Alistair Neish

I think it is time that Jonny's frequent mentions of Miami Vice are combined with Richard's frequent mentions of the DeTomaso Pantera with a chat about how the stunt car for the Testorossas was based on a Pantera

Martin Rawlings

Yes, there's a fairly significant industry around brokering the special registration marks.

Duncan Hamilton

Was great fun at the live show. Hopefully get to the next one too

Fletcher Crowe

Not exactly what Richard was getting at, but after a quick look at auto trader i thought. Beauford T Justice Giles Bramwith Chevrolet Chase Chesil A Hawkes.

Alistair Neish

So how does one obtain a special plate like that in the first place? Make a request and pay extra? Thanks

Ed Nicholson

Number plates are issued to new cars by the Govt. Anything that resembles a word or is a bit special is held back from general issue and sold. As UK plates are usually 7 characters, anything less is more valuable - A1 being the most, probably

Duncan Hamilton

Not being in the UK, I don’t get the bit about certain number plates being extremely valuable. What is the criteria which determines the value? Is it just shorter letter / number combos or what factors?

Ed Nicholson

That Mansell head truly is art.

Pete

I’ve not listened yet. Hoping the Boss SD-1 gets mentioned.

Euan Lindsay

Despite hearing it live I was still looking forward to listening to it again, maybe I'm a bit strange. I didn't realise that we were on the Rootes roads, as shown in the Top Gear BL episode (still my favourite ever episode with the Euro egg-cap test).

Matt Tester

Awesome podcasts recording was fun 👌
