Podcast 179 - A trip to Rennspowataahh
Added 2023-10-01 17:00:07 +0000 UTCJonny and Richard are in Northern California for Rennsport Reunion 7, a Porsche festival at the Laguna Seca track. Featuring lots of nice cars and special guests Elana Scherr, Jonathan Gitlin, Jonny Lieberman, Tom Ford, Mike Musto and Andrew Frankel.
The show notes will appear later this week, once we've got our photos back from Boots.

There was a Porsche Club of America meeting this morning in lovely, leafy Boca Raton, Florida. I would send you guys photos if I could only figure out how……🤔

2023-10-14 16:18:53 +0000 UTCSo is this 'soldering guy' fixing Jonnys Porsche, auto-electrician John, the OTSOT guy?
Robin Johnsen
2023-10-09 18:53:00 +0000 UTCNo podcast this week, I'm concerned that the Boots people abducted them when they tried to get their photos. Probably because of dodgy pictures.

2023-10-04 20:52:57 +0000 UTCI didn't care that much for the guest element. I prefer listening to you two than others whom I do not know.

2023-10-04 10:19:32 +0000 UTCI liked the guest element of this, especially Andrew Frankel. Sounds like a brilliant event!

2023-10-04 06:30:38 +0000 UTCGreat episode apologise if its been said. But was Jonny's new car briefly seen in his conversion with Tavarish. I like the rule on no guests but Andrew Frankel was great. Also despite being told never be envious of anyone by my mum. Andrews car driving experience is simply great.

2023-10-03 17:38:04 +0000 UTCNot much to say other than what a cracking episode, especially towards the end chatting to Frankel three sheets to the wind 😂

2023-10-02 18:51:19 +0000 UTCLieberman has a whole Facebook page about him called " Jonny Lieberman Ruins Everything" so now he's ruined the podcast.. George Follmer was the "Featured, ie paid " driver at the local vintage races a while back. He managed to get himself banned for being a bit too "argy bargy" in the showcase Trans Am run group. The sanctioning body then had to give him a 13 race, 13 month suspension.

2023-10-02 17:01:07 +0000 UTCHaving watched Johnnys Boxster vid I can’t help thinking he’s trying to outdo Frankle in the ‘Jean Reno stunt doubles’ contest, I’ll try to screenshot two pics of them sleeping in or hear cars for a ‘separated at birth?’ Meme

2023-10-02 15:08:54 +0000 UTCI’ll be honest I gave up after about 15 minutes as the car engine sounds were drowning out Jonny and Richard.

2023-10-02 14:29:35 +0000 UTCToo much cars. Not enough toilet cubicles. Should all Rover 75 owners sign the sex offenders register? And it's a Tatra - not a Beetle or a Porsche
Anthony Daniels
2023-10-02 11:42:50 +0000 UTCThe number of times Jonny said “it hasn’t been crashed” after a few beers about his cheap boxster was excellent

2023-10-02 10:42:43 +0000 UTCOn the tractor side of things, Australia used a Porsche snow tractor in Antarctica, it used to be featured in the Australian Antarctic museum, but that went bust so not sure where it is now. Did some googling and found that the VW Beetle is potentially the first production car to have been used in Antarctica. http://australianalpinoversnow.blogspot.com/2014/10/anare-aad-australian-antarctic-division.html https://www.antarctica.gov.au/magazine/issue-28-june-2015/history/antarctica-1-volkswagens-in-antarctica/
Stephen Voss
2023-10-02 10:41:21 +0000 UTCThere is a Porsche tractor in Robert Lewis' car collection / private museum and it too has a massive collecting tray underneath for leakage, Next to it is a Lamborghini tractor which is equally afflicted.

2023-10-02 07:03:25 +0000 UTCBest background noise for a car podcast ever.

2023-10-02 02:02:38 +0000 UTCThe fellow with Old Yeller that Elana mentions is Dr. Ernie Nagamatsu, and there's a connection here to that aerospace engineer 356. When fresh out of dentistry school, Ernie bought a 300SL Gullwing for five grand - at a time when he was renting an apartment and owned nothing else but one chair. He used to wander down to Balchowsky's shop at midnight and hang out, hence how he ended up with OYII. Really great dude, custodian, and makes sure the thing gets raced. If you want to cry a bunch, find a copy of Road & Track from the 1980s/90s, and look at the classifieds. 2.7RS for like $12K. Not 959s though, and like Richard, that is a childhood itch that demands to be scratched.

2023-10-01 23:01:44 +0000 UTCThe FOMO is strong right now! Was due to head over there from Florida and you're only making me wish I booked the time off. Interestingly, you were stood next to a couple of friends as the Patrick Dempsey car was unveiled in the Heuer booth. I would have lost my shit at seeing you too far more than I would have by seeing McDreamy 😂.

2023-10-01 21:30:06 +0000 UTCGreat to hear from Wookie Ford and the guests worked well on this one, despite the background noise! I barely recognised Richard's voice at the start though.

2023-10-01 21:12:07 +0000 UTCLol ! Great episode. Love the stuff about Andy Green talking loudly to himself about the flying conditions. Reminds me of the joke about how you spot a pilot at a dinner party ? You don’t need to. They’ll tell you.
