Show notes 177

Hello gang and welcome to the late-running show notes for this week’s podcast. And what have we got here? Well, in pics it’s He-Man and his 1960s lady’s hair, along with the quite-similar hairstyle of Velma from Scooby Doo. Then we have He-Man’s weird mate, Mansell-at-Arms, oddly muscular yet skeletal Skeletor, a couple of Jonny’s photos from a weekend at Santa Pod, and the infamous Brexit MG TF (courtesy of listener Tim Dowdall). Then we have Calvin Harris and Sam Smith with their sweet, sweet Prelude 2.2, the Jag donk spotted in a Louis Theroux show, and the annoyingly incorrect sleeve from Theroux’s Jiggle Jiggle track. Now, some links…

The He-Man title sequence

Karun Chandok’s 250 GTO incident

Sweet, sweet Calvin Harris Prelude for sale, yeah?

The View To A Kill Paris chase sequence (including that famous Renault 11 bit)

Video for Desire by Calvin Harris and Sam Smith. Keep your eyes peeled for that VTEC, yeah?

That Brexit MG: is that a wing on the back or just a roof rack?

I narrowly avoided a minor pavement-based collision with my local no-name-full-suspension mountain bike guy earlier today on my way back from my local post office (posting some Jowett car parts I found in a garage clearance to their new owner). I noticed that he's looking notably less pale and gaunt. A sign of change perhaps? Needless to say he didn't apologize and rode straight out infront of an oncoming pensioner in a facelift model Almera.

Is Jonnys new car, finally, a Hustler 6?

I’m now in a Lady Sonia wormhole

A bit of a Hail Mary (American expression for a nigh on impossible attempt at something) here: I will be setting up a Scalextric track at an event on 30 Sept. here in Germany. Scalextric has supported me by sending me buildings for decoration. The sides of the buildings are the prefect size for the smaller Sniff&Smith or Sportah stickers. The problem is I only realized this and I don't think ordering them will get here on time (plus the 12.95 GBP shipping is a bit high for a few stickers). If anyone is willing to sell and mail me their stickers I would greatly appreciate it. I hope Scalextric will feature the track on their ThSocials: BTW: The track will be in a trailer on a Skoda Enyaq being run by the Vehicle to Load outlet of a KIA. I hope you can contact me through here or on any other Socials as I am the only Andy Pinchock (mind the second "c") out there. Many thanks and have great day,...

A cracking show Gents...lots of laughs.....Richard excellently pulling the random subjects back in some way to automotive....brilliant fun.

The really odd thing with He-Man "I have the powwweeeer" bit (apart from the giant armoured cat, costume change, Highlanderesque quickening and foreshadowing of Clarksons famous phrase) is the fake tan Prince Adam gets once he becomes He-Man. The sword must give off a lot of UV like an unshielded stick welder. Maybe he does a bit of chassis work on the Attak-Trac of a weekend.

Mary Quant is the fons et origo of sixties bobness.

Behind the stadium is mainly wasteland and I don't mean the town but as I live there it's not a bad description

The calvin harris music video was filmed in wigan if you look in background you can see the arched roof of wigan dw football stadium

The He-man TV series was made to sell the He-man toys. The background is that Mattel turned down the option to make Star Wars toys. Realising their mistake they came up the idea of He-man, which was actually based loosely on their Big Jim toys but with a lot more bulk. Originally released as a comic, Mattel realised that selling He-man toys wouldn’t succeed without some sort of story for children to act out (one of the reasons Star Wars toys were popular), so they created the TV series and practically gave it to TV stations to promote their toy. If Mattel hadn’t passed on making Star Wars toys, He-man wouldn’t have existed.

You absolulely have to read some of the episode synopsis of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Sounds totally bizzare! https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0126158/episodes?ref_=tt_eps_sm

The gun-shyness is the reason why Austin Powers blinks so much when he fires a gun in those fillums. It was a 'tribute' to Moore, in the same way that other elements of the character were borrowed from the idiosyncracies of other Bond actors.

Just wanted to suggest some low key merch that I’d be delighted to buy and suggest to my friends: Base model pirate ship and body-kitted horse tee shirts. I was thinking the designs could just be a simple, bold silhouette of a base model pirate ship or body kitted horse with the associated phrase below it. Perhaps some car brochure style annotations pointing to features each does/doesn’t have such as ‘optional touring rigging (not pictured) or ‘full veilside skirting matching body coloured martingale & blinkers, with increased downforce’ I’m sure you can think of better ones but other annotations might read: ‘Broadside armament available as part of privateers package’ ‘Underskirts available in exposed or paint to sample carbon weave’ ‘Crows nest (available as 3 way adjustable comfort or lightweight fixed configuration)’ ‘Integrated Astrolabe, compass and weathervane available as part of the ‘blue water navigation package’ ‘ I’d buy one, maybe other people would too!

Absolute nonsense - Thelma / Lulu, no! Michael Fabricant is He-Man hair.

Anthony Daniels

I've had to bleach my eyeballs after googling lady Sonia.

Bluetonic 95

Ah yes, I've heard this before. He was terrible at running. And flinched every time he fired a gun, as you can briefly see in the link above.

Smith and Sniff

Apparently, it wasn't just his age that made them use a stand in for Roger Moore running, by all accounts the man just could not run. You very rarely see him running on screen because he felt, and others agreed, that he looked stupid. This info comes via Smershpod
