Podcast 174 - The Nigel Mansell clearance sale

A former F1 champion is selling some amazing things. Also in this episode, a haunted VW T7 Multivan, a Lexus with a fault, a brief review of the ID.Buzz van, why the new BMW M2 is like a set of animal balls, Liam Neeson in Miami Vice, a wild horse Bedford Rascal at Mansell’s karting centre, more horribly mistreated Jaguars, a barn find dog incident, the mysterious Gibbons method, a Hero Honda update, vigilante plumbing, and Greg James out of Radio 1 sends us his Florence Welsh impersonation.

There’s always the Florence and The Machine song A Ship To Wreck, sounds like she’s singing about a Shit Touareg. Always went well in my old work place. VW dealership.

Just youtubed "Delibes March and Procession of Bacchus from Sylvia" and sounds like John Williams (he of Star Wars and orchestral things fame) does Knight Rider with a sprinkling of Disney Fantasia thrown in. Perhaps there are more versions of 80's theme tunes done in a John Williams style.....

Nigel Mansell has a place in Jersey, and did have a fairly unremarkable car showroom in St. Helier. I see earlier in the year they announced that they were ceasing the sales and servicing for Mitsibushi and Hyundai. Maybe the success of 'Bangers & Cash' is prompting this move to flog everything by ockshun.

Ah, yes, we've been sternly told by a grown up (and by someone from a rival podcast as well) that we are fools and need to put our prices up. So we probably will in the next couple of months.

Smith and Sniff

Could ole Nigel be in trouble with his taxes?

Wow, thank you so much, I didn't actually expect to get one from here, haha! And yes sincere congrats to S&S on those numbers! (I reckon you could probably ask for more than £1 too tbh.)

Well done on the number of patreons. That's a decent number considering you don't hard sell it and the growth seems organic.

Here’s one for the Cats Protection League: very recently spotted a golden/beige XK8 whose front and wheel centre-cap badges had been replaced with Skoda badges (!?), otherwise perfectly standard and well preserved. I was unable to take a picture, but if you wish to investigate further the spot happened in Interlaken. Keep up the good work and greetings from Switzerland!

Adrian Gutiérrez

Seems fair, I’ll be ready to hear from you in 26 years. Cheers!

Steven Gurr

As I understand it, once you're on Bluesky you get one invite code a week. And we have over 2700 Patrons. So, to make it fair, the pair of us would have to be on there for at least 26 years before we could make such an offer.

Smith and Sniff

Any chance of a BlueSky invite for Patreons?

Steven Gurr

That T7 tiny engine is all well and good when you are driving it new from the press fleet. I would steer well clear of it in 4 years time when that tiny little engine has been shagged for 85,000 miles. That little thing is going to go "pop" in a big way. Same concern I have for many little engines - eg Volvo XC40 and its weeny 3 cyl 1.5. Nice engine - but very stressed hauling around 2 tons......
