What do we have in pics this week? Well, we start of course with Andrew Ridgeley and some creative parking of an R5 GT Turbo. Then we have the new Land Cruiser, a very narrow Daihatsu Tanto, the Suzuki Lapin LC, and of course Nigel Havers and Peter Bowles. Finally, the enormous Brut range spotted by listener David Hemming in the shop at his work. Now, some links…

Just got round to listening to this one. On the base car spec/cheapest car in Britain, the base Picanto pips the Sandero by a few quid at 13,600 or so. MG3 also.

Steve Ward

Enjoyed the WAV chat... wondered if they'd make decent motorcycle transport. Super low mileage, nearly always petrol (so ULEZ friendly), cleaner than any panel van and a loading ramp too...

Nicholas Bell

Suzuki Base is the only Barn Find support vehicle Jonny needs. Can of Hope will double it's range.

Maurice Barnes

Newts only use ponds for breeding. From roughly mid-May they leave the pond to live in dampish cool spots such as log piles.

I always wondered whether just adopting kei car standards might have improved cities across the UK with minimal effort. Stick a congestion charge or ulez exemption on them and people would lap them up really quickly. Even better when EV Kei cars start appearing.

Peter Flint-Murray

Thanks Mark. We're never sure if anyone's that bothered so it's nice to hear that you appreciate the links and pics every week.

Not sure if the S&S 2some read this but the photos and links are always worth the Patreon payment ! I wonder how many do pay though…

Mark Heeler

Nice referencing of Ian McShane, he is wonderful in 'Sexy Beast' as gangland king pin Teddy Bass, he's achieved some great roles in Deadwood and the John Wick series too.

John Hammond

New tv show pitch: Boon in a Boon is a boon TV's Michael Elphik returns as the loveable dodgy deler and all round fixer, however due to the slump in dogy dealings/investigative work he now drives a Daihatsu Boon and must get by with onlyt he use of a small Kei car. https://www.daihatsu.co.jp/lineup/boon/

The Honda Jazz (or Jizz as it is hilarously known in our house) is driven by one of two dangerous types of driver. 1) Deaf and half blind old ladies who slow down by dipping the cluth, or 2) the grandchildren of recently dead deaf and half blind old ladies.

Classic Mini v Classic Mini Clubman in the 70s is all I can think of.

Toby

That Ridgeley photo. Bhaha. Looks like he's pulled up outside Tesco Express waiting for his missus who's just nipped in for a carton of milk. Except he's upside down.

Rup (FastAsFunk)

And the whole, importing-a-kei conversation was in-line with the question I was going to ask at Bicester, itself prompted by Jonny's talk of the new Zed / Zee. What car, sold elsewhere but not in the UK, would you love to see on sale here? Maybe the kei cars are the answer to the unposed question!

Nick Davies

So, a look on the Daihatsu website shows they still make the Copen - and, bizarrely, have a model with an entirely different front end to the other in the range! It's more of the 'classic' Copen, softer, rounder styling than the more aggressive Yaris / Hyundai front end. I can't think of another car that has sold with an entirely different front!

Nick Davies

My FN2 Type R has those magic seats! Blew my mind when I discovered it, partly because I couldn’t understand the point of having them in a three-door car. Then we moved house and they proved very useful for transporting my partner’s array of overly tall and delicate house plants.

Daniel Thorn

Ridgeley and Havers both linked by SAAB the former owned several in the 90's & 00's and the latter was a Brand Ambassador

Cornish Rider

The group N escort is really quite something, in gravel spec it’s perfect. I do hope that when the auction details are written, they use the phrase (correctly) ‘fine another’.

Andy N

Stick and ball finishedtodays listening, by way of the explosive suppressed guffaw

Skelmansi

In terms of Kei cars, always fancied a Autozam AZ-1. And although not Kei, but JDM only, the Toyota Sera. Any other cars that are defined by one exotic feature, such as the butterfly doors in the Sera but with a very bog standard running gear. Ace jazzy 90s fabrics though!

Robert Seymour

Who's the Swedish PI that's a quite disarming guy? (FLUTE!) You're daaamn right Off of Scandi Noir, drives an ex-cop Volvo estate instead of a 4x4 (JAN FLUTE!) Can you dig it?

Brendan McAleer

Can someone please photoshop shaft and sniff enjoying a cheese savoury sandwich and a can of Fanta at balldock services?

Stuart_esq

if you squint a bit the Lapin looks like a Maxi (I haven't listened yet, just in case that point was made)

Mike Taylor

Quite possibly the greatest selection of pics ever to go with an episode.

Dave Law

Surely those ramp adapted Fiat Scudos would be perfect for loading/ unloading static engines at steam rallies? #SRWspec

Mark Morgan

Ridgeley photo reminds me of watching rallycross at Brands in the 80s when Barry McGuigan raced up the field into the lead and completely stacked it on the first corner Paddock hill - celebs and racing eh...

andrew philbey

That BL Harvest Gold LandCruiser would be a perfect sidekick for Jonny’s AllegRo

Toby

The sound of Andrew Ridgely racing. WHAM! https://the-race.com/junior/the-messy-racing-career-of-an-ex-wham-superstar/

Rob Stannard

Can I be the first to remind us all that Mr Ridgely was a 'careless drifter'

James Coleman

Is the Land Cruiser a fever dream after 3 days lost in the outback while driving a defender?

Rob Stannard

I wish World of Sport could have done a 1-lap exhibition race with Andrew Ridgeley and Mike Smith to see if one of them could have made it across the finishing line the right way up.

Tom Lanigan

Brut Attraction Totale 😄. Wonder what the real world range is 🤔

Wayne Brook

A couple of the links appear broken but I look forward to listening during the workday tomorrow.

Paul Brown

I'll have the Daihatsu named after the 27th president of the United States.
