The Dukes of Hazzard theme is one of those pieces of music that takes me back to a point in life every time I hear it, it's a Saturday tea time sat on the sofa watching Waylon's guitar fade into the shot of the General flying through the air. The composer Waylon Jennings gave up his place on the ill-fated aeroplane that lead to the deaths of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the 'Big Bopper'. It was the latter who swapped places with Waylon.

Wait! Guys, guys! No... It's this one... https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/6281758558526540/

But, NASCAR, as dukes of hazard is American, do not have wing mirrors, and until relatively recently internal mirrors were purely at the drivers discretion

Vincent Grey

They could get a tax break on it too, both being self-employed.

Ed Storer

Is this why the door mirrors on my 90s Volvo V70 (the 850-derived one) fold both backwards and forwards??

Ed Storer

Anyone who watched the BTCC in the 90's knows that racing cars do not have wing mirrors....for long 😏

Maurice Barnes

Something Seymour and Powell should have fixed in their C4 show Better by Design while they tootled around in their Audi TT.

I'm sure in the 1980's you could get a whole line of MV branded clothing from one of the many clothing and homewards catalogues like Littlewoods. Regarding Vin Diesel's mower choice, I think he's far more likely to turn up in a wrapped vintage Ransomes motor triple with the rear steering and some spinners. Or if there is a bit of a slope, a Brielmaier... https://youtu.be/zeqSZVuZAwQ

Surely the Allegro price rise is just down to Jonny's and Retropower"s dragging up the average.

The teapot chat reminded me of a Ben Elton sketch from the 80s about these exact type of stainless steel pots

Wouldn’t an Italian police Alfa have a deep v thrum-busso?

Okeechobee oak-a-cho-bee Springs not a real place and Lake Okeechobee is about 100 miles north of Miami not on Alligator Alley

Bill

Quite possibly, although I also think he figured that this is what retired guys do - they moved to a bungalow soon afterwards.

My grandad went from a Zephyr Mark IV to an Allegro in the mid 1970s. Unfortunately I wasn't old enough to ask about the reasoning behind this bizarre choice :) Fuel crisis maybe?

Chris Squirrel

As an E34 owner I almost cried watching a dozen of my favourite car getting destroyed. Although it’s cool to see the E34 on the big screen. Also, I initially thought they were all CGI as they were all the same colour with a single M badge on the boot lid with no model designation, although there were some with wide grill and others with the earlier narrow grill.

I can remember the launch of the Austin Allegro. As a kid we lived next door to the general manager of the local Austin dealership. The night before the launch he brought one home and it was parked on his drive. I remember my Dad and I looking over this new car with the square steering wheel! My long suffering wife had an Allegro Estate when we first met, that became a Metro shortly before we got married back in 1985!!

Steve Morton

Listening to the Dukes of Hazzard bit, I remembered that Burt Reynolds in Smokey and the Bandit was very much a mirror-looker, in contrast to the Duke boys.

Stuart Baly

When my grandad retired in the late 70s, he almost immediately sold his Capri (he had 2 on the bounce) and bought an Allegro. I don't think my granny ever completely forgave him.

Scar tissue is a lot less prevalent since the advent of HDMI.

How did you get Adrian Chiles to do the car and classic ad for you?

Duncan Dyer

How does Richard not realise that racing cars have rear view mirrors? I suggest googling what an F1 car looks like. In fact Ferrari tested/used an enormous item for the 23 season which was supported ny elaborate airfoil looking things from both the monocoque and the side air intake. Some suggested its aerodynamic benefit far exceeded its utility as a rear vision enhancing optical device.

I think I know the driving road Jonny was referring to, it's one I call 'the rollercoaster' and is local to me too, joining a town beginning with C to one beginning with U. There's a lovely view of a small reservoir at one of the piss stops. As it happens I did a loop around Rutland Water in my MX-5 today but chose not to drive that road for a change, shame as I might've seen someone wazzing. The facing trees man sounds like the type to go to a steam rally with his mucky engine, set it up and then just sit in a chair all day completely ignoring anything else that's going on in the show.

Matt Tester

Model train crash story from Lewis was pretty funny. The Allrgro needs to be the Smith & Sniff road trip car.

Ed Nicholson

Nice one guys, glad you saw the DeLoreans in MV, I'd go as far to say there are 8 or 10 on display. Bowling, I used to bowl, I wasn't particularly great but my wife was, I got as far as getting my own shoes and my own ball drilled to my fingers. A bowling rink is oiled down to about 10-15ft short of the pins, an ideal shot would be running right down the edge (left or right depending on you handedness) on full spin, when it hits the "dry" patch of the rink it will swerve in enthusiastically and hopefully square into the lead pin causing a strike,

Graham Dallas

Two of my friends are controllers on Network Rail and I always take the piss with Thomas references. & I agree with the Ivor the engine stuff.

Nigel Hancock

Can’t wait to listen boys.
