Podcast 156 - Narrow Dutch cars and the Strada Abarth

Jonny has spotted something local and peculiar in the Netherlands and Richard has remembered a sporty Fiat from the ‘80s. Also in this episode, the world’s finite supply of Biros, car tipping, Panda 100HP love, finding yourself on the Harry Metcalfe highway, driving old Bentleys, the Goodwood Members’ Meeting, the Ohlins Invitational Cup, Nic Cage surfing for Studebakers, and what’s actually happening at Land Rover.

I can't see any link between Biro cars and Biro pens. Biro is a trademark, though, and much like Hoover it's become genericised. The ballpoint pen was perfected and patented by Hungarian Laszlo Biro.

I feel your pain Richard with regards to a noisy top mount bearing. The one in my Sharan is driving me mad. Clonky notchy noisyness.

Tiff, Jonny & Richard - human cantapede

Nik Howard

For the totally standard (bar suspension) non sporty classic car race challenge (ohlins invitational) I'd use a base model MK1 Fiesta (if that's old enough) or an Austin Mini with Ohlins suspension.

Don't go thinking Bic only make the Biro - I have an excellent plastic kayak made by them! https://www.outlet-piscinas.com/kayak-rigido-bic-tobago Also, as a left hander I love writing with a fountain pen. Quink ink is the key, because it's fast drying!

I haven't managed to listen to this yet but the description concerns me as it has an awful lot about cars in it.

Love the Car & Classic ad, whilst Princess Anne found her Astra GTE on the site, I heard Prince Andrew found his Minor @ Pizza Express in Woking.

A pair of cantas

Good news guys: the Canta is not a single seater, rather it has 2 seats and a trunk space which could fit a 3rd person (I’ve seen pictures where elderly people went three up in there). So having Tiff drive both of you around Amsterdam at blistering speeds! (Let me know though, because as a local I would love to watch that)

Bjorn van de Ven

You really should crowd fund your Amsterdam trip

Nathan Henstock

I'd join the Ohlins cup in a suspension sorted Daewoo Espero. The tyre choice would be Marangoni. A tyre fitter I used to use years ago would always try and hawk them as if they were a well known brand. I think they must have been the importer and found themselves stuck with a warehouse full of them.
