In pictures this week we lead with Popeye, just so you can see what a peculiar-looking man he is. Then we have a couple of sneaky StreetView pics of the Pinin, and some examples of the weird world (and slightly too thin shirt) of the CEO of Fiat. Finally, a screen grab from that nuts fragrance ad with the Chrysler 180 and a couple of pics of Jonny’s amazing Top Trumps. Nice. Now some links…

You’re right. I always recall Porsche 959: 199; F40: 201 & Diablo: 202. I’ve never seen 207 mentioned against F40 before.

Grim tidings indeed, still fancy an I-Pace and will have to convince the wife that LR dealers will still support them if Jag is put to bed

Ben Hanford

Good grief 🤦‍♂️

Chris Jarrett

I worked at a high running JLR dealer in London this year and JLR are now clients of my new company and as far as I can tell Jaguar are indeed barely selling, it must’ve been at least 5:1 if not higher in favour of LR cars in sales at the dealership, it’s such a shame cause they’re great cars and a bit different compared to even their cousins from Solihull and also the german offerings. I’m buying an F Type next year and if Jaguar do go up in the sky it’ll certainly accelerate my purchase but will make it a slightly sad one.

Hearing Richard mention all those car journos in one place on his visit to the US, I was worried if some terrible disaster was to befall the city we'd have the automotive podcast version of the "The Day the Music Died"

Calum Gillies

Congratulations on getting the Cars & Classic sponsor! Perfect fit.

Listening the Richard mention the grouping of podcasters immediately had me in mind of the Anchorman news team fights. But of course with some subtle car related amendments. So Richard, on his own would summon Johnny with the (Jeep) Cherokee war cry of CRD-CRD-CRD-CRD (pronounced crud- because they are). Johnny immediately appears and plows through the crowd, inexplicably, riding a flabby-looking Renault Wind with the top down so sitting head very proud of the windscreen. The exhaust has been loosened at the back box and so is flailing wildly knocking over some of the other podcasters. Everyone regroups and then pull out extraordinary weapons- most of which are unusual gear levers. Richard first with that enormous gear stick mentioned a few podcasts ago where you hand is higher than the dash and finally panning to Johnny who pulls out a cat-o-nine-tails but the tails are shiny choady shifters. Richard steps forward and shouts “before we do this - remember the rules: no touching of the mouth or larynx”. Battle commences to the sound of a Stellantis remix of Boots Voucher. The rest I leave to your own wild imaginations.

Well cheers, fellows. Rich, while you had a typically glazed post-Atlantic-travel expression, you were actually quite personable when we met. I was just happy paths crossed. And I will just say there is a W8 4Motion Passat Wagon parked on my regular school run here; tho non-manuel. Phonetically, Wait For Motion is pretty accurate for the breed.

Brendan McAleer

Hey Rich, just watched the Smoking Tyre podcast, I can't believe it was close to 2 hours. It would be great to see you and Jonny doing S&S other than just the live shows, have you ever considered doing a similar format?

Graham Dallas

Such as the Maestro going over a cliff in Wedding Season, or various classics in Skys Lazarus Project, including a Saab getting blown up and the hero inexplicably using a Mk 2 Fiesta Popular to dispose of a body?

Stephen Millband

Talking of incongruous classic cars, have you noticed the current trend for TV shows to use 80’s cars in shows set in the present, only to destroy them?

Stephen Millband

Ha ha that's ridiculous 😆

Fergus McIver

Or maybe another Chrysler 180?

Fergus McIver

Is there a yellow Hillman Avenger in that absurd Paco Rabanne advert around the 8 second mark? Blink and you'll miss it

Fergus McIver

The Citroen zx 16v is still my fave car based perfume ad. https://youtu.be/U3Exc6NZiBQ

Rich

I love seeing the pictures that go with the Podcast I was literally listening to this very morning on the way into work. I've made a set of EV Top Trumps for my 7 year old nephew because there aren't any official ones... Shout if you want a copy of the PDF with them all in :-)

Richard Gledhill

Being the mild internet sleuth that I am I found the Pinin, in the area I found two Rover 75s, a nice 928, a house with matching colour Focus/Fiesta and a council man with a leafblower. Didn't find the RBNC Fiat family though.

Matt Tester

Am I missing something or is JLR going to sell Jaguar rather than shutter it away? I don’t understand why you would not sell it.😐

Saq

The F40 came out in 1987 didn't it? Hardly new in 1990! How sad am I even posting this 😐

Mark Elliott

In that perfume ad there is a Fiat 124 CC to the right, but is that Johnny's JDM Taxi above the A pillar of the Chrysler? Cheers for the pod.

Stephen Voss

https://www.carandclassic.com/car/C1443658 - Rare and I definitely care.

Harry McKeown

Is that a VW Variant parked next to the diner in the Chrysler 180 scene?

Chris Rayner

Though I’m currently in Treliske 🤣

Adam

I live in Porthtowan so not a million miles away

Adam

I have that set of top trumps Jonny! Love it. I remember trading them in school

Joe Brudenell

Ha, no but I'll bet we'll be about 2 degrees of separation apart. I'm at St.Austell Printing Co.

Daniel Ferguson-Smith

Where in Kernow are you then?…. Dont work at Roach with Colin do you?! 😆

Adam

I think the CEO of Fiat has been wearing that thin shirt while wriggling through the hedges next to that Pinin judging by the odd dusty staining on it.

Nigel Hancock

Thanks to Richard for the Jazz Emu pointer. Can also recommend “Still Waiting”.

Wayne Brook

I was waiting for the ad on YouTube to finish before the Paco Rabane advert, then realised the was the advert

Shane Kivlehan

321 km/h is seared in to my brain courtesy of Waddingtons

David Carss

I’m sure the F40 had a top speed of 201mph. Bloody Top Trumps!

Geoff

I print Top Trumps down in "sunny" Cornwall. They did a few retro packs similar to that deck when we first started printing them but haven't had any re-runs since.
