Show notes 130

Hello there. Us again. This week in show notes pictures we have the not-an-estate Polestar 3, followed by the concept versions of the forthcoming Polestars 5 and 6. Then we have Polestar boss and Liam Neeson impersonator, Thomas Ingenlath, and Jag Land Rover’s Gerry McGovern back in his Brian May lookalike days. Finally, we have the full chintz of the Trafford Centre and the attractiveness of the VW Arteon Shooting Brake. Now, some links…

You clearly haven’t been to Dubai.

Great episode ! Been a while seen I have been to the Trafford Centre does it still have John Whitaker (developer of it) Mum’s Mercedes 380 SL randomly parked at the gateway from the upper level into the food court. Most bizarre thing to come across in a shopping centre. Brightened up a dull shopping trip though !

AL Dickens

Man, I hate the Trafford Centre.

Will Laycock

The iPace is also only slightly higher than a seat Leon saw them side by side and minted the lack of size in the SUV.

I used to live in bath and Richard you are right about that escape road. It crossed my mind a few times to used it. Especially on a snowy day. I used also used the racecourse hill. I think the reason for the small boot on the PS3. Chinese market is keen on rear leg for passengers and maybe less keen on big dogs?

Robin White

Richard Picture's father grew up watching the great Dick Trickle in NASCAR, and over great objections from Richard's mother was able to get him named. His mother Fanny retained her maiden name.

In words of Tina Turner- Simply the Best.... Tour Venue. I know technically Morgan is in the Midlands, but how about Smith n Sniff Live at Gaydon, British Motor Museum? Royal cars, Jag Heritage collection, and atm, Vauxhall Heritage Collection too, and conveniently next the M40

Great show and a lot of personal things to which you guys were talking about. Rich. look for dog stairs for cars (yes Jonny they exist lol). Jonny best advice don't be. sarcastic with your school visit. I went into teaching later in life after working in manufacturing a long time. When training for secondary teaching you still have to do a week in a primary school. The class of year 5's. were learning chess. One student didn't have a clue I also didn't like the other student initially telling him where to move. Long story short he wins I think for first time he. says to me "are you some kind of chess. champion?". I still I my old sarcastic mindset and say "yes". Later on in the lesson he says to me "so sir what was it like being a champion did you travel"? I think oh sh!t don't do that again. By training I'm an Engineer worked in IT in manufacturing so the language could also be choice in a lesson one day in a year 12's class a database isn't. working I forget where I am and say "oh for fu*ks sake" followed by "sir didn't just say. that". With regards to the Trafford Centre I briefly worked for a large bank who have. large bases around Northwich area call in. late just before Christmas for a present for my mum. It's late I drive home park in side street next to local fish n chip shop. Get. back in cat (more frequently sited Saxo. VTR and here crack as I close door. Look. around quickly to see back window. shattered. Fun day followed next day in a garage St Helens where it was the only place to stock the back windows. Have not. been back to shopping centre since then and stopped buying Saxos . It had 3 windscreens and 2 back hatch windows. One. occasion a bullet of some sort when. through back window straight through to. the. front and out. Sweet, sweet area as. Jonny would say. Take care guys

Fuzzy felt eyebrows 😂

Mark Berry

The Trafford centre looks like it would be at home in Dubai ! Never been and don’t plan to .

Mark Berry

I'd love to hear that career talk as a S&S special :)

Robin Capper

On Richards DAF XF example it would be called a DEB brake (DAF Exhaust Brake) oh and here's the weedly escape route. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.4082872,-2.3422475,3a,75y,154.03h,74.69t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sahTyxKZv554untcL0dGxcA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?authuser=0

Simon Smyth

So it is. Thanks for that :D

Stephen Voss

Now I'm picturing Jonny standing up in front of the class and saying something like, "...well, yes, I do think electric cars are the future, and some of them are quite excellent to drive. The Porsche Taycan is very nice and you can get it as an estate version called the S-" *long pause* "...as an estate version."

Brendan McAleer

I think that's something different - this is jake brake. Engine braking for diesels. Just about the loudest thing in the world if you are driving alongside them. Or live near a motorway...

Zoona

I think Jack brakes a brand name? What they do though is brake the rear wheels I believe so it decreases the likelihood of the truck jackknifing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackknifing#:~:text=Jackknifing%20is%20the%20folding%20of,vehicle%20around%20and%20faces%20backwards.

Stephen Voss

Ooh. And on NASCAR names... I was at an event last week with some called Trent Pickle. Trent. Pickle. You don't get much more NASCAR than that.

Zoona

They are called Jake brakes, and they are fucking annoying, and exemplify everything that is wing with American 'no regulation' society. They are fucking loud, but making them quieter would cost money so they don't bother. https://www.mathesoninc.com/what-is-a-jake-brake/ yes, I live near a bloody motorway in the US.

Zoona

I could see this as a Bart Simpson prank calling Moe's. "May I speak to Richard Pictures? He goes by Rich or Dick"

Colin Kao

Yeah I was disappointed there wasn't one.

Mark Elliott

Am I the only one that came here looking for the Steven Seagal picture?

Craig Holland

I really like the idea of Richard Pictures being an incredibly devout Baptist, perhaps even having his car sponsored by the local arena-sized megachurch and faces of the horrifying televangelist vicar that presided over it. White cowboy hat and boots combo, has something like Philippians 16:9 stitched onto his Nomex suit. He has absolutely no idea everybody calls him Dick Pics but it wouldn’t matter if he found out because he wouldn’t know what it meant.

Joe Burwell

As the maker of the £25k comment, I’m just off to bang my head against the worktop. 🙋🏻‍♂️

Toby

The Polestar 6 looks absolutely stunning from these renders. Might have to start saving the pennies - the first EV I've seen that I'd actually want to buy. If I don't pick up a used Arteon PHEV as they also look ace - so someone else please buy them so I can have one secondhand! Guilty as charged by the way - a powerful estate weapon is a thing of beauty. Shame I can't afford one! The 3 just looks like a boring, bog standard SUV that then they've made it impractical with no boot.

Tom Gillespy

McGovern's hair certainly wasn't reductively luxurious back then.

Peter Heamon

On the money with the Liam Neeson look a like 😂 He definitely did on stage with the hard light
