Show notes 122

Hello and welcome to the slightly late show notes for episode 122. In pictures we have some scenes from Jonny’s #vanlife holiday (change of clothes not pictured) then a shipwreck near Woodbridge and an seal. Next we have a Daihatsu Midget, the inside of an Imperial Crown Coupe Mobil Director Edition, a ground hugging Toyota Alphard, a Ferrari Daytona SP3 and Jeff Goldblum inside his chamber in The Fly. Finally, we have two examples of random merch spotting. Now some links…

I was hoping we would finally hear about the fizzy yogurt

Daniel P

Great stuff again gents. Jonny, this would be a great addition to your fleet, and scratch the motorhome/RV itch: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1987-eldorado-starfire-30-foot-motorhome/

924 Hi, I’ve a vague recollection that Richard had never driven a Porsche 924 and would like to. If so a mate in Deepcut with a 924S might be up to let him drive his. Let me know if you’re interested- connorjw@gmail.com

I bought a god awful Panda 100HP from auction that had spent the 10 years before being parked by touch in Edinburgh city centre. It came on destroyed but also god awful wolfrace multi fit alloys so I fitted Fiat 500 steels with £32 happy joy road branded tyres and took it to a track day at knock hill where it did surprisingly well given the tyres and general state of the car. The next day the gear linkage snapped, shortly after the the clutch master and slave went and shortly after that the alternator seized. It was fun for a short period but horrible to work on due to the shoe horned nature of the engine unless you have tiny child hands. Never again!

Glenn Chalmers

could be a nice retro camper for Johnny! Happy to build it for you 😀

Barney Aldridge

Hi guys, love the show. I found this the other day when looking for campers (I run a small business raffling and building custom campers @abcampers) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/314115138366?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=vb7jB3NQRn-&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=YfakxtIQQ6C&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Funnily enough Mighty Car Mods have just posted a Daihatsu Midget video

Ollie Horsley

have you thougth about adding a US venue to your 'tour'?

Zoona

Hilarious stuff, as always chaps. In terms of venues there's Leeds Playhouse, Courtyard Theatre (350 seats) or Leeds City Varieties (467 seats)

Robert Lees

Designer of the back of that ferrari has been at it before: https://www.motorbiscuit.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Mercedes-W208-CLK-Mercedes-coupe-eBay-2.jpeg

As he couldn’t be arsed to write the forward for your third book of Boring Car Trivia you should invite TV’s Richard Hammond to your Morgan S&S Live to be your warm-up act as a penance. Love the podcast. Keep up the good work.

Gill Pile

That looks great but it might be a bit small, unless we made people stand. And that might be a bit much.

Smith and Sniff

Hello guys. Recommendations for a venue in the North East would deffo be “The Motorist” in Sherburn near leeds. I’m sure they’d love to have you.

BigBadCamFaz

Can't wait to attend a live taping of Britain's premier yoghurt podcast. If you are looking for locations I'd recommend the Muller factory in my old home town of Market Drayton, Shropshire.

Ben Oliver

Suggestions for a couple of venue’s in Scotland. The Scottish storyteller centre in Edinburgh and the Birnam arts institute, just north of Perth. Been to events at both of these and they have a good vibe. Great cast as always, cheers guys.

John Taylor

So funny, took all that stuff and no clothes :)

Robin Capper

Re: venues, I can offer a jazz club in Belfast but it’s in Belfast and only holds 80 people. On the plus side I can provide some excellent Hammond organ jazz before and after the show…

To my eyes, the Ferrari is most clearly related to this set of Venetian blinds, err I mean the back end of the Vector W8 http://gtsupreme.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Vector-W8-1989-1993-10.jpg

Zebedee Pedersen

They'd all have to be shelled for the weight savings, of course

Nick Davies

Regarding intimate, cool venues in Scotland, may I offer up the Tolbooth in Stirling… https://conference.yourstirling.com/2018/09/12/the-tolbooth/#:~:text=Nowadays%2C%20the%20Tolbooth%20enjoys%20life%20by%20day%20as,Style%2C%2040%20Caberet%20and%2030%20Board%20room.%20

I suspect Gordon Murray would be a big fan (pun intended) of nuts. They have one of the best power to weight ratio of any food.

Jonathan Strutt

As soon as Richard uttered the word yogurt, my eyes lit up like a child on Christmas. I turned the up the tacky knob of the cd600 radio in my fiesta in anticipation of what was yet to come. However my hopes were dashed as he began to explain the economics of a müller corner. I sat wondering if Richard will ever remember what the note “fizzy yogurt” meant.

Chud maxxing

Regarding the Aunty Cath situation, it could have been worse, you could have titled that episode "shitting in a slipper." I would have.

Simon O

Lovely to see a ‘92 Marin in action, it makes my 2003 Alpine trail look very modern

andreas photiou

An outdoor live S&S, powered by the soothing put-put-put-slap of a stationary engine and worryingly slack leather belt would be superb. Or maybe the manic hot air Stirling stationary engine that a guy called Shane Pomeroy has videos of on YouTube. You should definitely check that out. He was one of the last to leave a show because the damn thing wouldn't cool down.

Matt Tester

It's a Japanese van but they do sell a lot of them in China.

Mat Guest

PS: Agreed, the Ferrari SP3 has a lot of 1980s synth/pop/electro music video vibes. I would have one, but I admit that it's not the most beautiful work coming out of the Maranello special projects division. It is, as Johnny points out, a bit disjointed. But, since it's a rear-mid-mounted V12... That sells the car on it's own. Still, I would rather get a manual F50... ;)

nmdelgado_81

Yet another great pod, guys! I'm going to comment the bit about the Geneva Motorshow in Qatar: I tottaly agree with you, guys. Switzerland is not Qatar. I'm not a great fan of Qatari chocolate - those temperatures musn't be conducive to great coccoa products - yet I imagine finding tons of Toblerone around Geneva... Which makes a car show Switzerland, for some reason, way more interesting than Qatar, on that side of things. Keep it up, guys!

nmdelgado_81

#slipperofshit Used to describe a truly hideous car eg SsangYong Rodius. New T Shirt please!

Simon Smyth

That Ferrari's arse reminded me of those shutter shades that were popular in the 80's. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shutter_shades I'm with Jonny though thinking more and more that the Ferrari designs are they are throwing way too many details at the cars and they become confused. Cheers for the pod. Stephen.

Stephen Voss

Forgets clothes, remembers giant inflatable dog 🤣

Alastair may

haven't listened to the podcast yet but cant believe there is a picture of a Chinese people carrier that I saw last Friday outside a Chinese wholesalers, I took a picture and was going to send it to Smith & Sniff to say what the hell is this, looks like someone beat me to it.

David Burns

I don’t believe that Jonny went on a #vanlife holiday, I think he went to a campsite, broke into a family’s camper, drank their thatchers and cooked their sausages. Thus starting the new series, ‘Jonny breaks into people’s cars/vans and does a review’ where Jonny does the aforementioned and produces a beautiful video, then gets chased off by a disgruntled owner
