Well, well, well. What have we got here then? We start with the Silverstone 'wing' (elaborate building movement railway, not pictured), a classic example of zany Eurospecs, and the new Range Rover Spowaaaaataaaagh followed by the similar (?) Reliant Scimitar GTE, a car which has never been owned by anyone famous ever. Then we have a couple of examples of needlessly moved number plates on modded cars, a Toyota GRRRRR86 being driven by someone who doesn’t have to pay for its tyres, the disappointing looking Corvette C8, and an HSV GTS (which is basically a VXR8) with the lesser-spotted low rear spoiler. Now some links…

On the issue of under 23s liking the mx5, I guess I'm the odd one out. But I guess I have the grown up mx5, the mps6. And in regard to the C8s likeness to the 458, apparently GM bought an engine off e-bay and reverse engineered it. Apparently

Sandals or new balances?

João Ferreira

And yes, still lost

I was listening to this while driving to Silverstone this morning, for the first time. Not the best confidence building exercise guys, not cool 😂

João Ferreira

Ahem.. Mackerel skies and mare’s tails Make tall ships carry small sails

Chris Rayner

What I think Johnny was groping towards are white horses; the foaming crests on waves which become widespread on open sea subject to Beaufort force 4 and above. Of mares tails I have an old sailing ship seaman’s rhyme, possibly a pirate, probably not:

Chris Rayner

Full Seinfeld spec they are.

Peter Heamon

Do we need to talk about Gerry McGovern's footwear in the RR Spowatah launch video?

Adrian Cockle

I enjoyed this episode as I love Corvettes but find the C8 very unattractive (and much less practical) and own a GTO/Monaro... Until the end when I was called a "pussy". 😂 I'm from Georgia, and there's no way I'm riding in a car with AC and not using it from May through September. I'm assuming Jonny doesn't use the heater in Blighty? ;)

Josh Hamilton

I've driven an XTS. Definitely not worth the effort. Richard

Wish that wing building was relocatable. Can't understand why they chose to put pitstops, the second most important part of a GP after the start, below ground. Other circuits have pits on a slope don't they?

Robin Capper

Does the new Corvette remind anyone else of the Noble M10? same kind of shape....

Lee

I believe, from (distant) memory, that the Cadillac XTS *might* also have this feature. If you’re in Europe, this is a lot of effort to go to for marital harmony.

Ed Storer

That's pretty cool👍🏻

Chris Jarrett

The problem with the mid-engined Corvette is that it looks like the kind of generic supercar you get in a video game when the developers couldn't afford to license anything. The higher-performance versions look a lot better with all the aero. Having recently taken delivery of a new BRZ (GR86 twin), it's a bit depressing that the Toyota version is so limited over there. It's not as polished as the current MX-5, but it's really satisfying in the way that the Supra just isn't. Even if the pricepoint weren't a consideration. I suppose the Supra's extra power means you can leave the A/C on...

Brendan McAleer

The idea of mid-engine Corvettes has been around since the '60s at least, the 1968ish Astro II concept springs to mind. Personally I always thought the front engine was as much a stubborn Corvette characteristic as the rear one to the Porsche 911.

The scout-esque Scimitar thing was done, once. It had a modified GTE chassis to accommodate Ferguson 4x4 running gear, increased ground clearance and '4wheel drive' badges. Cool looking thing and sold for not-a-lot (relative to it's rar-raty) quite recently. While GT86s do hold there value reasonably well, mine was really difficult to sell 18 months ago. Maybe I got out too early. Bought an i3 though so hopefully Autocar are correct!

Thomas Hill

You'd have to wear the Corvette outfit vinyl Corvette jacket, Jorts, white crew socks and sandals

david marden

All the GRR 86 are going to be absolutely thrashed in 10 years much like the e36-46 M3s with the torn out rear subframe mounts

david marden

The Scoutsaaa had an amazing I-4 that was a v8 with 4 cylinders sawn off. https://images.app.goo.gl/auwJfTDqGWbRb2ud9

I don’t want to sound too tossy but at least some Porsches like the Macan have not only individual temperature controls in the front but also the family friendly features of separate fan speeds and air distribution. Do other cars have this because it should be !

Mark Heeler

My Dad's 960 used have loud pumps from memory.

Robin White

The wave things are called 'White Horses'.

Peter Heamon

That said, some cars seriously struggle with auto, even today. I have been driving a Subaru Legacy in the US whose auto setting was atrocious and either boiled you or froze your nuts.

Ed Storer

I think mine does. I hear the compressor engage when it gets too warm on auto. This is a 1990s Volvo estate, by the way.

Ed Storer

Unless I am ultramiling the I leave the aircon in Auto and I put the seat heating on as required. This always confuses me why car reviewers complain that the settings are moving from knobs into the screen. But does make me wonder why the "auto" setting can't handle switching off the air conditioning pump when it isn't need due to ambient temperature / humidity in the cabin etc.

Robin White

Peter Schreyer does own a MK1 TT that he uses daily, think he owns the last one ever made in fact

Paul Yeung

I was once part of the Number Plate Relocation Scheme. I had an Opel Manta 1.8i, and wanted to copy the irmscher number plate look. So I bought a black fibreglass fill-in piece to sit between the rear lights (in place of the number plate) which didn't quite sit straight at one end, and I cut a section out of the bottom edge of the plastic skin that covered the rear bumper and mounted the plate there to appear hung - slightly off centre. Bugger.

Firstdan2000

I keep getting new car ordering wrong. I ordered a GR Yaris on launch then cancelled later on thinking there wouldn't be much scope for running it a year and then selling at zero depreciation. Err. Wrong. Then I have an order in for an Emira but I want base spec i4 and its going to be so long until delivery that used V6 First Editions will be available on Autotrader so no premium. Then I (as a GT86 owner) thought the GR86 was overhyped and would suffer the same fate as the GT86 where the motoring press and forums loved it but nobody bought it. Bugger.
