We lead this week with the Ferrari Pinin concept, just because it’s the nicest looking photo we have. That’s followed by the Hyundai Richard was thinking of (it’s called a Bayon apparently) and then that stancey ZX for sale, a classic Adrian Newey bum-up F1 car, and the 505 GTI about to auction on Car & Classic. Finally, we have Michael McDonald in some Aviators, although they seem to be sitting unusually straight in this shot. Perhaps he’d had them on his jig.

Bit late on this one, but I live in Italy and basically just spent a whole day listening to Pino D’Angio. The guy is a properly underappreciated genius that deserves “subject of a BBC4 documentary” level respect.

That's really very pretty but I meant more like a 7 with the wheels about a foot closer together - sort of like a aero bodied recumbent bicycle... with 4 wheels and an engine.

We did a family trip to the Yorvik Centre 20 years ago, I can still remember the disconcerting smells eminating from the various tableaux as you walked around. My vote for seeing the National Railway museum having been vetoed.

Pino Ma Quale Verse 3: she looked at me I looked at her I stopped her caressed on her fairy face but it looked like a potato! I grabbed it, blended it and made an omelette !!!

Whilst out running wearing headphones listening t'pod i made a pedestrian jump by laughing suddenly when Richard said "bongo mags". Also re sunroofs I too am a big fan of sunroofs (or sunrooves) it reminded me of when a friend of mine had a rover 620 turbo which had a sunroof and was the first car I experienced air conditioning. He was so convinced the car was faster when the aircon was on he used to refer to the sunroof open status as "pursuit mode". Thanks for making me laugh. Cheers Rick

During the bit about creating a jig for cheap petrol station purchased aviators I nearly crashed 🤣🤣🤣

The Monaco bit got me thinking: What would a Caterham look/drive like if the wheels weren't outboard...?

In case the email doesn’t work…… Random Marillion fact copied from the IMDB trivia section from the movie Highlander: Although Queen's songs have become closely associated with the franchise, they were not actually the original choice. Before Queen decided to do the soundtrack for the film, David Bowie, Sting (who was also considered to play Connor MacLeod) and Duran Duran were considered instead. The now largely forgotten prog-rock band Marillion, who had enjoyed a big success in the UK in 1985 with their "Misplaced Childhood" album, turned down an offer to record the soundtrack because they were busy on a world tour. Guitarist Steve Rothery later said in an interview this was "a really stupid thing for us to turn down." As well as his band being offered the soundtrack, Scottish singer Fish (then lead singer of Marillion) was also offered a part in the film and even grew a beard especially for the character, but touring dates with the band conflicted with the filming schedule. Fish revealed this in an interview by rock journalist Mick Wall, which is published in his book "Appetite for Destruction - Legendary Encounters with Mick Wall."

I was at Yorvik VC yesterday. Smells a bit, but nothing like what I remember from the last time I went about 30 years ago. I know Jonny likes toilet related things, so he might enjoy the largest fossilised poo ever discovered.

Ross Yallup

You mentioned about life insurance and F1 drivers, which is actually something I know a bit about. The main problem when working out the risk is that aren’t that many people driving in F1 and only slightly more with FIA Super Licenses, so it’s difficult to calculate the exact risk. I was once told by someone who specialised in this market, it was about the same risk as someone six months after cancer treatment, so borderline uninsurable.

Guy across the road had a Ferrari 400 when I was little. Not surprisingly he wouldn’t let kids too near it but everyone loved the sound it made.

Bonus Spudulike fact.. It was once owned by the British School of Motoring.. helping to fuel driving instructors the length and breadth of the country..

Great podcast as ever (and all that). A note on vikings and how smelly they are- having studied them for a bit, they're usually famed for their cleanliness, bathing at least once a week (more than most modern students) and using animal fat soaps. No brüt evidence as far as I can tell...

Will Gilbert

Yep I've made the same point on the actual podcast comments section reflecting the above. Leave it as it is please. Don't pander to a very small minority. I want it sweary, rude, grot mag and dildo filled - steam powered or not 😁 together with aerosol can arse 'accidents'. Us generation X lot need a brilliant podcast like this. Other generations welcome. As a parent suitability for children rests with them. 🙄

Jon R

I've got a 505 turbo, they're good cars.

Robin Johnsen

I’m also strongly against censoring. Anyone listening once would have a clear understanding that consideration should be made whether it’s suitable for their childrens ears, which as with all language and topics, is entirely specific to each child and their parenting. I’d never dream of asking a podcast to censor their language so my daughters ears aren’t offended, it’s my responsibility to decide what’s suitable and whether I should wait to listen until I’m out of earshot.

Giant Iain

Please don't censor the podcast Rich/Jonny. I'm staggered that someone has listened previously and then thought it a good idea to play it in front of their kids. Unless they are 50 years old and their 'kids' are 25.

Firstdan2000

Don't you dare start censoring the podcast lads! It's already got an 'explicit' tag on Spotify, it's the listener's own fault if they're playing it in front of children.

Matthew Watt

Loved the Pinin, then and now. Was at school and we had to do a '40 hour Project' for Technical Drawing. I designed and drew a dashboard for the Pinin. It had to be drawn in pencil, but got permission to add lights in pen. Plan/Elev https://flic.kr/p/4dBboW Iso https://flic.kr/p/4dBbed Rough perspective https://flic.kr/p/4dxcst Passed with an A :)

Robin Capper

Oh man, that Ferrari is amazing looking. But then I am a big fan of the 400/412. It's like the Maserati that Maserati never managed to build...

Roger Skagerström

Astonishing that there's a train station called Spud-U-Like.

Ed Haszard Morris

Back in the 80s my Uncle had a 505 GTi estate as a company car, after 3 years he bought it off the company and also took delivery of another 505 GTi estate as a replacement company car so they could have matching his and hers. I thought they were pig ugly back in the day but they look ok now.

Graham Dallas

the mention of spudulike made me chuckle, being from Edinburgh, I can tell you that the main restaurant is in Waverley mall, right next to the train station of the same name, the mall is pretty miserable and is mainly full of impatient train passengers or bored teenagers causing trouble, so no wonder it's not doing very well.
