Show notes 104

Hello gang. What a lot of pics we seem to have this week. We lead, of course, with the subject of this show's title, followed by the king of the deep Vs, Michael Douglas in Basic Instinct. Then some sleezy Slotmags and the Weller 8-spoke, followed by a map of the M25 for those not familiar with it. Note how it encircles the largest city in Western Europe and is therefore quite long. Especially if you do an accidental lap of it. Next up, those stickers offered to Jonny, a bustle backed and wheel spatted Morris Minor, the weird face of the Toyota Yaris Cross, a spy pic of the forthcoming safari 911 (likely to be called the Dakar, apparently), the Huracan Sterrato concept and a pap shot of the production version on test. Finally, the pits at Reims and gassy astronaut John Young. Is that a Moonswatch he's wearing? Joke. Joke! JOKE!

Only one link this week, but it's a good one: Listener Charlie Bird trying to cram Smith and Sniff references into a post race interview. Cheers Charlie! https://youtu.be/hY1z_mYZ07I

That's all part of the MG heritage. My '04 ZS 180 has panel gaps more varied than British weather, and quality control that Hyundai would be rightly offended to be compared to.

Lewis Clark

I was on a plane with people looking at me laughing. Better to be happy than sad.

The Sloaner

Great comment. Random fact..... In Ireland the condom vending machines beside the pills are provided by company called 'Justin Casey' (I think its a sly dig at Bishop Eamon Casey who should have made a purchase)

The Sloaner

For some reason, I see a lot of the mg 3s in Australia. The fast food chains here use them as delivery cars, I presume because they're cheap, but also cack. Think Tesla-esque panel gap and hyundai quality control

Liam Belfield

There might not be a Duster Dakar but there is a Duster cross country championship (not in UK). Top chap Karsten Boegvad I think built one on Reiger dampers. Non of this cheap Fox stuff.😳

Phil Griffiths

Can we get your thoughts on the new BMW 7 Series next week please...? ;-)

Paul Yeung

probably cover you in crap whilst drying hands, only to break and need significant £ to fix.........

Robert Clay-parker

Well not often i'm correct, but yet again.......

Robert Clay-parker

Rim choice 🤣😂🤣

Chris Jarrett

Every time I use a Dyson Airblade hand dryer, I’m reminded of the Honda Fireblade motorcycle, and then ponder what a Dyson Fireblade hand dryer might be like.

Marco Spaccavento

True. But it’s still a Peugeot 205.

Chris Rayner

I'd hardly call a one-off stretched, four-door Peugeot 205 CJ mundane.

Smith and Sniff

Did you look? There are a couple of very mundane cars with them.

Chris Rayner

Streetview glitch or an outing for the world's most zany modified car club? Richard

Smith and Sniff

Trust me, my Range Rover is very far from sporty. That's why I like it. Richard

Looked at the Reims pits and grandstand on Google streetview. A year ago they were still painted in the old logos and names. There were also some enthusiasts and their cars parked in the pits. A Porsche 914, and a very shiny Subaru. Owing to the vagaries of the streetview system the 914 looks as if it’s a four seater, and the scooby appears to have four front wheels a bit like a Tyrell P34.

Chris Rayner

Richard has a real Rangie fetish on the grounds it's a 'good family car'

David Saunders

I'm sure a week or two back i heard Mr Porter having a pop at sporty SUVs, then i thought looking at the e-UP! in front of the Supercharged RR, hang on a minute i spy some hypocrisy here............

Robert Clay-parker

Very much liked how I heard Richard stifle a full on belly laugh when Jonny was spouting authoritatively on 'rim choice'. I have to confess to owning some Weller wheels in my past life, 'cos they were cheap.

David Saunders

Blue Zeus is uplifting 😂😂😂

Simon Moseley

My grandma and aunt once missed the M3 junction on the M25 because they were “chatting away”. They ended up doing a lap and a half round the M25 as they entered on the M11 junction. It’s safe to say they both didn’t posses a good internal compass.

Alex Mills

So many good laughs in this episode! Is it weird that I feel like everyone's watching me when I'm laughing at your podcast alone in the car?

Colin Kao

Thank you for getting a John Young reference in there. Man was a legend. And for more thoughts from the great man have a look at page 414 (416 on the PDF) here. https://www.hq.nasa.gov/alsj/a410/AS10_CM.PDF The phrase “Houston, we have a problem” suddenly takes on a whole new meaning. Young is down as “CMP”.

Dom

Does anybody remember the "Fog Donkey" stickers from the late 90s? Similar in style to On a Mission. Somebody I worked with had a beige MK1 Fiesta with the obligatory sun strip on which it said "Bass et Tunes"

John Hammond

devastated the v8 supercar was a holden

Riley

Just popped into the loo here in Apeldoorn washed the old hands and what should greet me but a mitsubishi jet towel jt-2sap. Without the reservoir it was a blow the water on the floor model...the piece de resistance was the sign reading "handdroger" I do have pics...

Neil Butler

I cam across a Mitsubishi Jet Towel for the first time this weekend in a Cineworld, I did wonder if there was an FQ-400 version

Peter Norrish

Haha, I knew that 8-spokes were going to get abuse as soon as you mentioned them. I definitely prefer modular or Wolf wheels like Richard has on his Defender. The MFP cars in Mad Max had 8-spokes, don't know if that makes them more or less sleazy. I was going to say Neighbours should be the Ford Falcon but I can't believe they stopped making that car almost 6 years ago.

Matt Tester

Not sure spiking stories whether male or female are funny.

John P

Wow....thats a throwback! I had all those Max Power stickers! On our works van we had a huge On A Mission sticker across the front window....thinking back, it must have looked shite 🤣
