Podcast 91 - The Bristol Disco drift scene

Jonny and Richard discover a hidden pocket of hardcore D1 action that uses Land Rover Discovery 4s. Probably.

Also in this episode, Jonny's extremely tiny office lavatory, a trip to Britain's most '90s city, a trio of book reviews, father and son story corner, getting annoyed by people who say 'with regards to', a Porsche 911 with an industrial turbo, a krill-sifting Frontera driver, the death of DriveTribe, and brand new game show Ross Kemp's I Won't Repeat The Question.

For sure, I do hope we get to see soon the V10 powered MX5 driving.

I think they said they'd keep the youtube channel going which is good. Some good stuff on there.

A mate of mine can't speak a sentence without saying 'basically' almost every other word. It must be difficult because the other words are all 'f'kin'.

Bristol might be the city of the 1990s; but it has a language of its own. The Ford Fiesta would be pronounced "Fiestawl" and it's appearance would be described as being gert lush. Phantom L's get added to any word ending with an A, E and sometimes an O. Hondawl, Vauxhall Astrawl, Ford Cortinawl. In my case I sometimes drive a Mk1 Renault Twingol. Chaps, just caught up with the latest excellent 'cast and with regards to So Solid Crew, was wondering if you'd seen the Wikipedia "edit" from about ten years ago that added a swathe of additional band members. The blog that caught it before it got pulled seems to no longer exist but the greatness still exists on other sites: https://www.thepoke.co.uk/2017/03/24/time-people-added-100s-fake-names-solid-crews-wikipedia-page-still-funniest-thing-weve-read/ Personal favourites include Notorious BLT, Ivor T Engine and So Solid Dog. Cheers for being my constant Monday morning dog walking entertainment, on that side of things. Mark

You’ve just cost me £160 Richard. I went on Steve Saxby’s website and now I’ve ordered both volumes of Secret Fords in the collector’s editions. Am I a collector of books about the history of Ford? It appears I am. I did tell him you sent me so you ought to demand your commission.

As a fellow Swansea resident I was surprised to see that I have been in the buildings where the factory was and noticed no mention to the history of that area. I live just down the road so will be doing some Smith and Sniff inspired research!

Interesting that you mentioned the toy car factory in Swansea. I’m from Swansea and was just talking about the old Mettoy factory with my stepdad a couple of days ago. He would go to America on business back in the 70’s and 80’s and said that Swansea and Mumbles were quite well known there because so many American businessmen would have been over to visit and order and specify products from Mettoy, who occupied a niche in small detail die casting that no one else in the world was doing.

With regards to, with regards to, a customer of mine loves using the word, ‘actually’. A normal sentence would go something like: “actually, I used to work with a guy who, err, actually knew my next door neighbour, actually, he had stables with horses, actually”

Mark Sheridan

Didn't know that about DriveTribe and FoodTribe, Never really got my head around either of them really, we fear change, but did enjoy their content on YT.

Bristol's a great city and adding to the San Fran connection it also has instantly recognisable suspension bridge

Bruce Driffill

Another excellent episode on that side of things.

My best buddy and I still "whhaaaazzupp" each other way too often. LOL
