Podcast 76 show notes

Well then, what have we got this week? Our images for show 76 are of the excellent Wacky Races logo and competitors, the outside of Hanna-Barbera studios that Richard was making such a meal of describing, and the insides of the 'tech-lifted' Renault Zoe and the Fiat 500e.

I don't think I can post an image in comments but that exhaust "dump valve" is probably a weird little gadget that you can buy on wish.com The description on there is the quite magnificent "Turbo exhaust whistler exhaust sound car dump valve simulator blow off tailpipe." On that side of things.

If you're going to talk about Daihatsu's next week, you could touch on the Charade 926R. This was a one-off homologation special with a mid-mounted 3-cylinder 926cc (hence the name) that was turbocharged to produce 116hp. The car never toed the start line (Group B was cancelled), but the engine did go on to be used in the next-gen Charades in a lower state of tune. They are apparently good for at least 200hp in usable trim. The third generation cars got a 1600cc variant that was called the GTi in export trim and the DeTomaso Charade in the home market. These made 124hp in JDM trim, which for a 2000lb hatchback sounds plenty. Like the Suzuki Swift GTi, these were supposed to be really good to drive.

Can't believe there were only SEVENTEEN episodes of Wacky races?! It seemed to be a constant in my childhood !

Regarding origin stories - what's the story behind the theme music? I seem to remember from a previous podcast or video you guys were painting a vivid picture of some of your associates, completely plastered, banging on some congas? (Was it the "Harry's Farm on acid" episode?) Did this actually happen and did you get to record the result, or is there a complete song somewhere by somebody that one could listen to in its entirety? :-) (The tune is really groovy and would like to hear more of it - and the composer deserves recognition, I think :-)) Thank you for making the most consistently entertaining series of videos and podcasts on the Internet - looking forward to seeing you two having lunch in a press car at some service station again some time soon! Regards from Norway! - Paul

Regarding how otsot started, was it not in relation to Jonny's mechanic mate who said otsot every second sentence! I have automotive electrician in my head, I forget when the podcast but it was either that one or a few episodes after that. Hope that helps I might go back and watch some wacky racers episodes now, I confused it with "catch" the pigeon too!

On the Perodua Kelisa side of things regarding the rust effect possible mini conversion, its based on the Daihatsu Mira and there is something called the Daihatsu Mira Gino which looks like the original mini. It's actually quite a cool looking car with a few modifications on it.....
