Podcast 75 show notes

Hello again. What have we got this week? Well, our lead image is of a Porsche 911 doing an impression of a van. Then we have that email Richard received warning him he was running out of time to cash in his Land Rover with We Buy Any Car. Oh no! Then we have the four identical Spykers used in the filming of Basic Instinct 2 - two were just rolling shells, apparently - and finally an example of a bobtailed Discovery 2.

That barn find Integrale - https://bit.ly/3lAFMgc

The low description (but also quite low priced) Integrale in Germany - https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1352452

And the one for sale in Portugal - https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1322530

"The writing is remarkably poor". This and other assessments of Basic Instinct 2 here - https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/basic_instinct_2

Never convinced that the chaps read these comments but here goes with my bump start story. Back in 94 i was reshelling a mg midget and had borrowed my mums friends (widow spec) double garage so i could transfer parts from the old shell to the new . I had got to the stage of wheels, suspension and brakes all installed, engine running. No bonnet, boot lid or doors (or, crucially, interior) . It wouldnt go into gear so after bleeding the clutch slave three times (a hateful job involving your head in the footwell) i concluded that the clutch was stuck to the flywheel. Put it in first and turned the key. Car shot forward. I was sat on an orange crate and hadn’t anticipated how sharply it would take off. Got thrown backwards catching my head on the untrimmed rear scuttle whilst flailing with my feet for the brake pedal. Now mildly concussed and bleeding profusely from a crescent shaped head wound .Car took off down her drive and out across the main road narrowly missing passing traffic then up the drive of the house opposite. Shortly before embedding itself in their front wall i managed to grab the steering wheel and yank up the handbrake thus executing a near perfect handbrake turn on the gravel. I was then approached by a slightly shocked looking gent who had been proceeding down the main road when confronted by a partly panelled, apparently driverless mg in a “frogger” style. Anyway - i got my head glued up and no other damage done. Plenty of lessons learned though

There is a Jensen Interceptor (FF?) in that Integrale pic. Somewhere in a barn in Yorkshire is the GKN FFF-100, a 600hp four-wheel-drive Interceptor that held the 0-100mph-0 record from 1972 until the McLaren F1 arrived (yes, quicker than a 959). Speaking of getaway cars and theft, the only reason people know its approximate wherabouts is because it was stolen and recovered in 2010, and pictures were taken of it in police custody. Has to some to light someday...

My first gen Focus Ghia 1.6 was valued at £150 on WBAC, if Richard fancies a straight swap?

Scott Carlton

Biggest mistake I made was putting my jimny on WeBuyAnyCar for a quote, I've been getting constant emails for weeks! Though interestingly the price has now gone 1K past what I originally paid for it!

Please explain to me why i can buy an RS6 (et alia) in Germany without the drug dealer glass, but cannot order it from the UK Audi site? https://www.audi.de/de/brand/de/neuwagen/a6/rs-6-avant/exterieur.html

That 911 looks ridiculous. However if you live somewhere other than the land of eternal drizzle, tinting is pretty useful. I have (almost certainly illegal levels of) tint on all but windscreen, and a big 'because racecar' tinted banner across the top of windscreen, and it's brilliant. All fitted prior to my ownership I hasten to add. Winter may change my mind though.

Gangster glass just ruins a 911, have seen a few Caymans ruined with after market tints, even more pointless is it is standard on the First Edition Emira but fortunately 'can be deleted if you wish'.

I can't say I'd given much thought to the "van spec" tinted 2 door coupes - but now I know I'll never stop noticing it. Thanks for that, OTSOT.

Sounds like Concours D'Lemons in the US

david marden

I'll give you £200 for the Land Rover

Joshua Birkett

I can't help but imagine that this supposed Lancia buying trip to Portugal would for some inexplicable reason, result in Sean Connery era bond style car chase. For some reason in my mind the other party involved (the villain?) is driving a 1965 Daihatsu Compagno spider.

Alex Miles

I remembered hearing that ex-professional footballer Stan Collymore gets shagged to death by Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct 2, which a spot of googling confirms takes place in the Spyker. Not seen the film it but wouldn't have thought there was much space in a 2 seater sports car for that side of things

Duncan Dyer

Bank job Allegro ?! Madness.

Remoc

Both the German and Portuguese 'grale's look like they've had bad resprays. Bumpers should have black inserts.

Quentin James

Concours de l’Ordinaire is fantastic. I went three years ago. Highly recommended.

Ronnie Whelan

I preferred the Hillman Hunter. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/05gAAOSwCyZf7wQj/s-l1600.jpg

The last winner was a Proton 1.5 GL

David Burns

Has either you or Jonny heard of the Hagerty Festival of the Unexceptional, I had never heard of it but it sounds right up your street
