Podcast 74 show notes

Leading this week with one of the few pictures Jonny and Richard have from the latest Late Brake Show Live because, in their defence, they were a bit busy during the day and forgot to snap more. After that we have 1950s handsome-spec Elvis and the evolution of the Alfa Romeo badge, complete with the man being eaten by a snake.

A concise history of the Alfa badge - https://alfaworkshop.co.uk/alfa_romeo_badge.shtml

That Fine Young Cannibals video where the guitarist appears to have had ice dropped down his trousers (and the bassist too) - https://youtu.be/2H5Se-9XAVE

Finally, Richard mentioned in the podcast and at the live show an episode of old Top Gear from 1983 where William Woollard signs off with a piece to camera that is, on closer inspection, gibberish. Here it is - https://youtu.be/8M0H7xw6jSY?t=1700

MG Metro was my first car, and I've always thought whether I should buy a mint example, find the original number plate (car was crashed and scrapped, so maybe available), and then have it in the garage as Genesis.

Damian

Oh, that's a good idea. Hang on...

Speaking of badges and Alfa-Romeos, it is worth delving into the history of the Nuvolari tortoise badge, and the semi-lunatic who came up with it. He's responsible for cars being called "she," among other things, OTSOT. Is it possible that the Patreon crowd could have a crack at the quiz? I'm somewhat hesitant to ask, given that the Late Brake touring show is a lot of work for everyone, but if it's not going to be used again, it'd be fun to have a try.

Brendan McAleer

Still not on my Apple feed either. Dam it man I had to listen via Patreon. For completeness I’ll of course listen to it again when it finally shows it’s face in Podcast app

They gave my sister £650 for her 2004 Mini One, 57k with FMiniSH, aircon and dealer fit genuine body kit. Brutal.

Ed Storer

Is this available on the Apple podcast app yet? I couldn’t find it this morning so just checking it’s uploaded.

Stuart Greenhall

If you think the Alfa Romeo shield is strange on close inspection, have a look at Lyle’s Golden Syrup. Hard to imagine the advertising pitch nowadays that would suggest putting an animals corpse on a food label. I’m glad they have stuck with it…

Jim Galbraith

WBAC offered me £150 for my 90k 2 owner mk4 golf. Bar stewards!

Remoc

Dear lord! WBAC are offering my NINETEEN-THOUSAND POUNDS for my 3-year old Focus, which I bought for £22,700. That's totally mental.

In the composite....please! Bob

Nick Davies

Thanks for bringing it Nick, first time I've actually seen one in the metal

As a former coach driver on long distance run, there are several reasons for loading luggage. 10 people and bags add a couple of tonne to a coach so it helps to balance weight out evenly. When it comes to unloading, I always took bags off because I'd known passengers to take bags off to get to theirs and the driver didn't realise, driving off leaving the luggage by the road unattended.

John Hammond

We sold our Jag XE via webuy a few weeks ago. It popped up on Autotrader a week later and then a speeding ticket turned up at ours a week after that!

Daniel P

So that's another show done over, as it were.... Brilliant!

Ben Fitch

Thanks for the honourable mention of Unicorn shit MGSV. Mine, and bought by accident last year..... It tipped over 3000 miles en route to Market Harborough. Loved the show. Saw the MG metro. Chap who owns it has a few Rover bits. Bedford based. Good guy.

Nick Davies

You flumps. The mention of We Buy Any Car urged the temptation to look at how much I’d get on my daily, and the price has went up 2k since April! Now I must resist the urge to take them up on the offer and spunk it all away on chod. Great chat as always chaps, and loved looking at the pics from the live on the socials this morning!

Parked opposite the Metro was, for some of the day, an incredibly mint N-reg Rover 214. I kept catching a whiff of the smell through the open window which took me right back to a Rover 100 courtesy car we had as a child when my Mum stacked her Clio into the back of an Escort.

Nik Howard

That Metro was really clean, later in the day there was a mint Allegro beside it too. I don't think either can hold a candle to the ex-police Rover P6 3500 that quietly sat on the back row, wonderful green with all of the period police mods.

Matt Tester

Someday I'll make it to one of these

david marden

Does anyone else follow the YouTube links and post some mischief in the comments ?

Firstdan2000

Sad that there was no Wollarding in that clip.

Simon Clark

Random use of "basically" by Mr. Wollard
