Podcast 74 - Hello Market Harborough!

Jonny and Richard reflect on Saturday's second Late Brake Show Live event.

Also in this episode, The Fordsy 100 Index, going for an old school curry, running country cams, getting a double Sade gift from a Terminator, car shows swapping presenters like prisoners, the best type of Elvis, having a drum & bass breakdown, and Richard banging on about Up GTIs again.

Plus, understeering Spykers, funny car badges, a surprisingly Morris Minor, coach driver workouts, trying to clean cars in bad light, The Fine Young Cannibals pointing at Jonny, another tale of jump starting kindness, and whatever happened to Lee Noble?

I know you're not ones for backside kissing messages but great podcast as usual this week and after hearing it I was intrigued to listen to the BBC 6 Music show you were listening to on the way to and from the curry house on Saturday night....... Bloody hell that was some hard core D'nB. Not sure if I could have handled such sounds once filled with much food and cobra beers either. Also wanted to say the quality of the merch is great on the side of things and shall be ordering more in the near future. Keep up the always excellent work and all that.

If you want a fine young cannibals exhaust note you will need a smaller capacity car(1 litre fiat Uno was perfect for this) and a condom with a hole in the end placed over the exhaust tip not your meat flute. The trick is a gentle take off do not gun it.

Great podcast. Listened here this morning as it wasn’t showing up on Apple Podcasts for some reason

Nothing against Cherokees, mind you. Just the one I owned wasn't quite right. Still a nice car. I realised I've never owned anything truly shite. Richard

Smith and Sniff

Can't remember the name of the curry place. On the high street I think. Two next to each other, this was the one on the right. It was very good. Richard

Smith and Sniff

We did!

Fantastic day, such a nice vibe and excellent array of motors. Really enjoyed it, even enjoyed Rich saying the Cherokee was the worst car he'd ever owned - the Orvis you mentioned is mine! Coincidentally I bought it off Jonnys mate Kieron with the hedge find Jenson! Can't wait for you to do one in the Staffordshire / Shropshire area, hint, hint!

Shaun Kelly

We buy any car have also been giving really good money for s550 mustangs as of late

Frank Fowler

Brilliance once again. Jonny really does sound both physically and mentally ruined, good effort for even being able to do the podcast.

So glad about the charity. I've got a bit of a back story on that side of things. Keeping me sane since da 2020s. Thank you.

Thank you for signing my books Richard, glad you didn't wee yourself.

Market Harborough has never sounded so amusing!

Dilemma…, I usually do my Monday evening ritual of listening then. But the live show was fantastic so feel I must listen tonight! I’m sure my boss won’t mind me being a little late to work tomorrow morning! (Just in case can Jonny or Chops write a drs note for me?)

I'm glad to hear that you had a nice time in my home town, I know exactly where you were staying as it was my Saturday watering hole for a while after another local pub burnt down. No idea which curry house you went to though as the two I know wouldn't require any country road shenanigans. Had a great time yesterday, lots of fun, some sunburn, a real variety of cars and the pub quiz was the perfect difficulty. Only complaint is that Rich didn't bring enough books, his new book was gone almost immediately after the Q&A. Great to see Chops on her feet again in some form, on that side of things. Hats off to the great crew too who were also happy to have a chat despite having lots to do.

Great podcast, the metro looks very mint indeed

Just for the sake of clarity and reassurance, I'm not a Terminator sent back in time from the trademark holders of Alldays & Onions to stop you from producing knock-off merchandise. I'm a slightly chubby 42-year old man with weak knees. It's also true that I disappeared around 1.30pm, partly because I needed to be back in the arse end of Fenland but also because standing around in the baking hot sun whilst wearing leather trousers and base layer tights results in what I can only describe as an unpleasant amount of ball soup. I can only imagine this is what David Hasselhoff felt like for much of the 1980s. I had a great time and the show was truly excellent. Such an eclectic mix and everyone there was so friendly and happy to chat about their vehicles. Everyone involved should be really proud of what they've managed to achieve and I'm sure it'll go on to achieve even bigger and better things in the future. Although I did manage to grab Richard, I also wanted to catch Jonny at some point - but failed as he seemed to be the busiest man in the universe - to say thanks for the both the show and, just as importantly, the podcast, which has been a joyous little weekly staple in what, for me, has been a really tough year. Good job, chaps.

Years ago at my Father's tyre business in Edinburgh we had a coach in our yard for tyres and a man walked into one of the luggage doors that was up. Wasn't pretty....always been wary of them ever since!

Smith and Sniff did you stay at the Travel Tavern next to the McDonald's at the roundabout? I had to buy my son a McDonald's to placate him as the Pizza queue was massive. Catering was good mind, my bacon cob when I arrived was supreb!

It was a great day, My son and I enjoyed it, got burned to a crisp in the sunshine, and Mr Porter whom I've communicated through an obscure web forum for years had a chat and was a thoroughly nice fellow. RC cars kept my Lad happy and I think Jonny's too, I think they had a contest. Everyone so friendly. Just a perfect day!

First week as a patron and enjoying early access to the pod! Mate brought his Kawasaki green Exocet and had a great time!

Wow. That is a relief. Was just about to walk the dogs and fancied the company of Smith and Sniff! Thanks for getting it out on a Sunday for us after such a busy day yesterday.
