Podcast 69 show notes

Hello. Very tired and croaky show this week, but as fresh as fresh can be in timing terms 'cos it was recorded only this morning. Pics this week are of the eclectic mix of cars seen at The Late Brake Show Live, the off-brand Sport socks, the comedy typo on the packaging of these socks, the amazing Renault 5 Turbo 2 with custom interior, and some of the Smith and Sniff fleet parked in Dover this morning.

Those John Peel-narrated horror crashes - https://youtu.be/TeQs2fpU1eI

The full episode of The Late, Late Breakfast Show from which they're taken - https://youtu.be/R-Np39nGSSY

Keep The Faith by Bon Jovi - https://youtu.be/eZQyVUTcpM4

PS It might sound like Jonny goes for a wee during this podcast but he's really just using the bathroom to fill up a glass of water, honest.

Tell you what lads, you were on about cars that are better been an auto, two cars that are uncomfortable to drive as a manual, as in the interior isn’t good in manual, must include the disco 3 and the xc60, the xc is crap to change gear if you have anything in the cup holders. Bit of a pointless message maybe

Talk of the K10 Micra brought a wave of nostalgia - we had both the K10 and the K13 in Canada, and a friend had a K10 in University. We once put eight people in it for a short ice cream run. The cops were doing a seatbelt check. No tickets, but a bit of a talking to. It was an auto too - it did not accelerate, but accumulated speed the way a table gathers dust. Peel horror crashes: OTSOT, I would really also encourage anyone to watch the following documentary about Ken Carter's attempt to jump the St. Lawrence river in a rocket car. It's *insane*. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgIhGTpKTwM&ab_channel=NFB

That Renault 5 is so strong!

Nick Davies

That’s the Smith and Sniff effect. Usual symptom.

You guys have got to do a Smith and sniff playlist of your favourite/unknown/forgotten/underappreciated songs on Spotify. Between this episode and the abba episode I've now got 2 songs I never should have had missing from my playlist !

The Late, Late Breakfast Show did some weird stuff. Loads of injuries and then this which resulted in the show being cancelled (and Noel Edmonds - coincidentally, ahem - resigning): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Late,_Late_Breakfast_Show#Death_of_Michael_Lush_and_cancellation

I came along saturday (Lancia Montecarlo) - Glad I risked the rain (and thus rust). A great day out. Relaxed atmosphere, a few things to see and you were your usual entertaining selves. Good Pizza too. Only glaring omission was the lack of coffee. Obviously a toe in the water (with a lot of effort behind it) and only hope you don't lose that intimacy as it gets larger.

That John Peel video. My god. Starting with John clearly being a “Urinal Talker”. The first crash. I think Edmonds is pulling a facial expression to his crew suggest that trying to recreate Le Mans ‘55 isn’t going to go down well and they should cut the feature. Cut them going again, John casually joking that this could go two ways and that he is going to step back a bit. The inevitable massive accident, Peel goes off mike but is surely discussing which part of the guy are they going to film and then action camera over to scene and the random trying to scrape him up. Edmonds mean while ends the episode and then stares fixedly at his telly as the credits roll watching the recovery.

Sorry, yes, have added a low quality photo of the exterior. Richard

Gents did you not take any more pics of the absurd Turbo 2? Would love to see more.

George Wade

Great. Thanks for the earworm.

I saw the sock diagram before listening, and didn’t spot the reinforced hell, but did like the ‘maximum confort’
