Podcast 69 - The morning after the live show before
Added 2021-08-08 18:01:01 +0000 UTCIt's the Sunday morning after the inaugural Late Brake Show live event so obviously Jonny and Richard are in Richard's hotel room in Dover which is decorated like someone's dead uncle's house.
Aside from some chat about the live event, Jonny remembers a recent encounter with a lady who got trapped under a Honda Jazz and Richard reveals what inspired the Grand Tour theme tune.
Plus, Noel Edmonds' horror crash jocularity, generic sports socks, model villages, clutch smearing and Having To Stop Driving spec cars.

Heartfelt thanks for pronouncing my surname correctly. You're in the 1% of people who do!

2021-08-13 12:39:42 +0000 UTCGreat podcast again, cheers! Speaking of old people that struggle with gears in general, my 87 year old next door neighbour believes that you do not need to change gear until the needle on the Rev gauge reaches the redline, and will not be told otherwise! I bet her poor Yaris has never been above 3rd. She bought the car new in 2015, and it needed a new clutch and cracked the flywheel at 7800 miles. She had exactly the same failure in 2010 at 8500 miles on her 2005 Corolla which was also bought new 🤯

2021-08-11 09:21:02 +0000 UTCOn the Brian Harvey side of things - oaps and autos…….my parents neighbour managed to do this: https://www.kentonline.co.uk/tunbridge-wells/news/father-crushed-by-own-car-95451/ I have never worked out how he put itin drive and then got out of the car before standing in front of it to defrost the screen . The tyres were smoking by the time the old bill arrived - sad huh?

2021-08-09 19:10:37 +0000 UTCI came along saturday (Lancia Montecarlo) - Glad I risked the rain (and thus rust). A great day out. Relaxed atmosphere, a few things to see and you were your usual entertaining selves. Good Pizza too. Only glaring omission was the lack of coffee. Obviously a toe in the water (with a lot of effort behind it) and only hope you don't lose that intimacy as it gets larger.

2021-08-09 17:41:22 +0000 UTCIt was great seeing an S660 for the first time outside of Gran Turismo. My friend was trying to show me his new side skirts on his Celica but your car distracted me.

2021-08-09 10:19:53 +0000 UTCI remember years ago I was waiting in a Renault garage in Swansea and the lady in front was complaining about having to pay for her fourth (!!) clutch in 3 years and Renault quality issues. When she left all I could hear was her trying to reverse the car out of the parking bay with the engine on the limiter. The service guy just looked at me and raised his eyebrows - nothing else needed to be said..

2021-08-09 10:19:09 +0000 UTCListening to you chat about that Mk1 Mondeo (it was a solid blue colour), it was an even rarer BASE spec (the was a trim below LX). Had keep fit windows front and rear, manual mirrors and no rev counter

2021-08-09 08:34:02 +0000 UTCOh bugger me you're just outside my town for the next show. Need to get booked and it's close enough to cheapen out the place with my bobtail Disco.

2021-08-08 22:05:50 +0000 UTCVery happy to hear the mention for my S660! 🙂 I met lots of very nice people who were interested and wanted to know more about it. Was fun to compare notes with the chap who owned the Smart Roadster too! An all round great day out! https://www.instagram.com/p/CSSed_ECkke/

2021-08-08 20:43:45 +0000 UTCMy 11 yr old was chuckling as we passed The river Wantsum, then towards Sandwhich and near Ham. Ham Sandwich? Wantsum? We’re not from Kent, obviously.

2021-08-08 19:32:17 +0000 UTCGreat listen as always. I have a Miami Vice boxset and I watched it all as recently as last year, it is quite dated in some ways but not in others on that side of things.
