2021-08-04 19:29:41 +0000 UTCThere's a 16 plate Hyundai Tucson in silver with a 66 plate in red, both belong to the same house if that helps. In the village, there's two red Seat Leons, a 19 plate and 69 plate but the 69 plate is an FR with black wheels. Again, same house. Weird.

2021-08-04 15:51:34 +0000 UTCWe have had two matching cars! My brother and I bought a pair of completely matching Citroen C1, identical spec, consecutive VIN numbers and number plates! Mine made 150,000 miles, my brothers just about 200,000 before they died / written off! Can’t find the picture of the day we collected them though now. Me and my brother drive very differently and the cars ages differently as a result. I can confirm that a good run in then more aggressive driving lead to a noticeably freer engine with more performance!

This matching even goes down to the number plates which are one digit away from one another, and contain their names Des and Sue i.e. DE 5X SUE. That did get me thinking how many other his and her names could you get out of the standard 2 letter, 2 numbers, 3 letters UK format?

2021-08-02 22:47:37 +0000 UTCI made friends with one of Daihatsu's product planners a few years ago - he has a really cool Honda B16 swapped Rover Mini (getting this past Japan's road-legal laws was really quite difficult). They have a small museum at the factory with some vintage cars that they lend out from time to time for TV and movies. I asked, and regrettably no one seems to know the whereabouts of the single Daihatsu Charade De Tomaso 962R, which was a Group B (!) mid-engined prototype shown in Tokyo in 1985. Look it up, it's cool as anything. Speaking of film stuff, OTSOT, plenty of stuff is shot around here with old cars, notably the show The Man In The High Castle, which uses a lot of very early Japanese cars (Cedrics, Austin-based Datsuns). They have this very clever system for weathering a car by using spray-on/peel-off paint to simulate rust and so forth. The car coordinator for the show says it's easier to find a well-restored car that runs properly and make it look ill-kempt than try to keep old bangers running.

This would allow for the oldest original paint to weather and the newest paint time to age, before re painting. If they did it Richards way the original oldest paint would be ruined and the bridge probably collapse!
