Podcast 68 - How this podcast made a listener think their GR Yaris was faulty

Jonny and Richard have accidentally spoilt someone's enjoyment of their new car.

Also in this episode, not liking Tommy Lee Jones, households that own two of the same car, Jonny's spooky doppleganger, getting to know cars by washing them, having an international face, and what does Nicolas Cage drive?

Plus, a leggy R.S. Megane that Jonny definitely isn't buying, lending cars to film and TV productions, weird things in classified car ad photos, getting trapped in a Japanese motor show stage performance, and what are Daihatsu up to these days?

Comments

I hope that “daihatsu the musical” video is going on YouTube if you dig it out?!

Surely it’s Delia Smith selling the materia rather than Mary Berry if it’s in Norfolk ?

FRSHNMNTY

A trrrrrrrrrrrr-xx rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr4 surely?

Peter Heamon

My first new car was a daihatsu cuore avanzato tr-xx r4. Hilarious fun.

Maurice Barnes

My first car was a Daihatsu YRV, absolutely loved it. I think there's less than 500 left in the UK now

Peter Norrish

Ref trade plates; the only service they provide is road fund licence (road tax), nothing else. Not insurance or MOT cover.

Fergus McIver

What does Nick Cage drive? IDK, do you think he's a red-blooded American Mustang lover, or would he go for a sophisticated, erudite, and suave SL600?

Colin Kao

Re Boon - I once crashed their filming in Ilkeston driving home in my Skoda 136 while they were set up doing a market scene. You didn't stop in those days on a Friday night when someone tried to wave you down after closing time.

Maurice Barnes

Looks interesting, tank-turn option 😯for under £25k

Maurice Barnes

So much love for the XBUS. It's a much less less shit version of Gordon Murrays OX.

Chris Squirrel

OTSOT the wife and I owned nearly identical Nissan Xterras from 2015 to 2017ish. Same spec. Same year. Different colors and one with leather interior.

Jeffrey Smith

This weeks episode is not uploaded onto YouTube yet?

Mark Williams

I had a friend at school from Czechoslovakia, a Czech mate on that side of things, who's surname was Chodera. We used to call him 'Chod'. Not sure I'd call him that these days...

Peter Heamon

When Jonny gets Richards Casio you can buy replacement straps from Amazon, eBay etc. Had together one a couple of years back for my son's watch.

Peter Heamon

Christ! I’ve just remembered! There was even a “bigger kid” at my secondary school who would pick on me as (as my friends of the time confirmed) he thought I was a completely different person! I know I went to secondary school in Somerset, but even allowing for that (insert comment here about intellect of bullying kid) that’s my face being an ongoing hindrance.

In relation to the doppelgänger thing, when I’d be out when I was in my 20s people would come up to my very anonymous-looking face and either greet me, or on one occasion try and start a fight. Take a look at my lovely profile pic on twitter for any proof required ( @brownest_Ant ) , however, even pre-pandemic I solved the issue by being in my forties and not going out anymore.

An old neighbour of mine had two identical white Rolls Royces. They lived in a whitewashed house with porcelain white ducks in the driveway.

Rob Smith

"Tide is High" by Blondie is also a cover ...

Ed Nicholson

My next-door neighbor has 2 early aughts white Jeep Wranglers the wife's has a hard top the husband's only has the soft top his also has beach driving permits from several Mid-Atlantic states and national parks

Bill

A house a few streets over had two yellow SEAT Arosas separated by a year but otherwise identical. In the last year or two they’ve replaced one with a VW Lupo, sadly in silver. Obviously, the platform works well for them.

Re Boon; Back in my early 20’s while I was a student, I occasionally picked up vehicles and parts for a gentleman called Dave Heathcote from Beeston near Nottingham. Dave supplied all of the cars for Central TV dramas including Boon, one of which was a red Rover 2300 SD1 which I drove for a week while work was being done on my then Ford Orion.

Richard Fitton-Perkins

Great podcast guys. Me and my aunty both own e12 toyota corollas. Mine is a 52 plate t3 spec while my aunty’s is a 53 plate t2 spec.

Opposite Neighbours to my parents always have identical midsize hatchback derived ford estates, both had w-reg (must be the last ones off the line) escorts, both blue ghia and then both replaced them in 2009 with with 2006 focus ghia estates in that terracotta colour. Unfortunately I never plucked up the courage as a kid to ask what was going on was weird though

I suppose at least you have the satisfaction of knowing it was an *accurate* windscreen and roof. Richard

Smith and Sniff

I loaned my 1968 Toyota Corona to the production of Rush. They borrowed it twice for several days for the scene in Japan (Blackbushe Airport) and you only ever see two seconds of the windscreen and roof. Such a shame.
