Podcast 67 show notes

Right then, what have we got this week? Picture-wise we start with the Scarborough Fair sleeve. Look at Art's face! He's just found out what time they land in London and he's FURIOUS. Then we have the weirdly posh Transit door locks (two more session tracks from them later in the show). After that, Pitbull looking like an Audi salesman who's just come straight from work, the excellent sixties house on stilts Jonny spotted in Chichester, and Havers. Nigel Havers.

I know exactly what Art’s face is portraying, I’ve experienced it many times with “hire car roulette”. That’s the face you pull when you see the hire company is giving you a Vauxhall Mokka/Renault Captur/[insert other names of stupid small cars on stilts - AKA compact-crossover].

Paul Simon’s excursion around the UK in 1965 is well documented here https://roboud56.wordpress.com/the-60s/paul-simon-60s/paul-simon-1965/. You will see that while Garfunkel was also present, he did not accompany Paul on every occasion. Travelling was largely by train. It was his experiences at the hands of British Railways which inspired his song “Homeward Bound.” I don’t know, but it is possible that he made the trip across the pond with Loftleidir https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icelandic_Airlines. Who were at that time the cheapest fare.

Hi Guys! Great podulecast as ever, tough to listen to in the car as I get stared at for laughing like a mental. Just to note that there is a district of New York called Scarborough, as well as towns in Maine, North Carolina and Ontario. Anyway, when you first mentioned Messrs Garfunkle and Simon leathering it up the A1 to look at potatoes I imagined scrunched up in a comically undersized and underpowered family car like an Austin 1100 frantically deciphering the no-doubt numerous illuminated warning lights*, the 1300 being too pricey to rent, and, British car rental companies not being known for their largesse, a land crab would've been out of the question, on that side of things. *no wonder the Garfunkle's hair stands on end to this day, what there is left of it. I'm sorry to point out a horrendous omission on your part, akin to not mentioning Princess Anne when discussing Reliant Scimitars... On both your latest 'cast, and either your Malbec-fuelled stream of consciousness from outside of a caravan or your piece to camera from Gouty Goodwood, you mentioned Derek Bell(end?). On neither occasion did you refer to his majesty of motorspowarght'z-ahh as 'Five Times Le Mans Winner Derek Bell! On yet another side of things, good knowledge of Newfy airfields being used for refuelling stops. Back in the 90s and early noughties I flew RAF C-130 Hercules, we regularly stopped at Gander, Goose Bay, St John's, or Halifax (Nova Scotia) for rest and refuel layovers. Happy memories of wandering from the hotel to bars in -30c and 20' snow drifts wearing jeans and t-shirt., might have been under the influence of alcohol at that point, they had a habit of opening the hotel bar whatever time of day we arrived...

Pitbull now owns part of a NASCAR team. The NASCAR announcers always seem confused and a bit uncomfortable around him.....

I think the panel around a Trannies door lock is to prevent the light fingered community removing valuables from therein. Was a security mod back in the day.

That house looks a bit scabby. The Fiji Sun certainly has a superior writing style to that of our home-grown ragloid*. Mind you, we probably don't get many justices writing for it in the UK. * new word, just made it up. I'm guessing the positioning of the lock is to keep it away from the handle mechanism gubbins, one would think that Fowarghd'z-ahh Twraaaaanzit-aaaahh-a is the target of many a tea leaf. (please note the definitive spelling of Fowarghd'z-ahh)

Is it just me but when the pictures drop before I have had chance to listen to the podcast I play “only connect”…
