Podcast 60 show notes

Hello again. Five images for you this week which encapsulate this episode nicely. Not even going to label them. As for linky links, well...

On double bass drum, the Boeing CH-47 Chinook: https://youtu.be/V1EYPy67qOU

George Benson's bed shop still exists (not actually owned by George Benson: https://www.bensonsforbeds.co.uk

The man himself doing some scatting: https://youtu.be/KiOPjcXzBBE

The Ford F-150 Mega Power Frunk in action: https://youtu.be/LjTCLAOdouI

Jonny got his Whitesnake videos mixed up. It's the Is This Love video that features the mad drunk couple collapse onto a white Jag XJ towards the end (and is completely ridiculous throughout): https://youtu.be/GOJk0HW_hJw

Whitesnake's Here I Go Again video featuring the same white Jag XJ (actually Coverdale's personal car) and a black XJ (belonging to the video's director): https://youtu.be/WyF8RHM1OCg

By sad coincidence the woman from both those videos, Tawny Kitaen (later Coverdale's wife), died last month: https://metro.co.uk/2021/05/08/tawny-kitaen-dead-bachelor-party-and-whitesnake-video-star-dies-14544194/

UPDATED - Sorry, forgot the link to the interesting story of how Scrappy Doo came to be: https://bit.ly/3pvMGVE

I bloody love a Chinook, me. It's compulsory when hearing one to say "that sounds like a Chinook." Then look up, spot it and say "It IS a Chinook."

Mike Follows

Another great episode. I find having a swig of mouthwash a good whiskey substitute for those early mornings where it is hard to get going for work. You can pretend it's a nice oak barrel aged bourbon but you can still drive to work. Just don't swallow.

Sam

Loved this episode! Especially enjoyed your anger over the children’s programs, I totally agree scrappy doo was a total flute! When are we getting some merch boys? I’m almost tempted to get myself a t-shirt made with “Spoooooowwwatttahhhhhhh” emblazoned across my ample man jugs! Well at least once an OED official spelling is agreed upon 🤣

Ben Aston

What's ridiculous about her name?

Chris Squirrel

I was listening on my way to work this morning & howling with laughter on the segment regarding the aerodynamic properties of David Coverdale's 80's attire! 😂 Top stuff gents 👍

Dave Hughes

Whilst laughing at the image of a yellow F150 swallowing a Smart. I managed to ignore my parking sensors and twatted the fence. I secretly blame you guys, but know really I'm just a knob:).

Philip Dickinson

Living in Alton, I can confirm this. It's when you're driving past the airfield base between Alton and Odiham and one emerges as you're driving under it. The hedges offer quite a bit of sound protection

Tim Organo

I used to live in Basingstoke, which is close to RAF Odiham, where some Chinooks are based! It would be nothing to hear them flying at low levels especially at night. Also they could give you a scare when driving along the M3 or A339 between Alton and Newbury.

Matthew Bartlett

Not sure about Coverdale but here's what his band mate Marsden has been driving... Pleased to see its a targa so the whitesnake windbreak can still be implemented 🤣 https://www.classiccarauctions.co.uk/events/2021-auctions/the-london-classic-car-show-sale-2021/the-london-classic-car-show-sale-2021/cars/1987-porsche-911-carrera-3.2-sse-targa

Ben Peak

The lovely girl grinding on the hood of David Coverdales Jag is none other than his then wife Tawny Kitaen... and no I didn't make up her ridiculous name

Robert Lee

Christine Keeler (pic #1) was a key person in the scandal that almost brought the British government down in 1963. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christine_Keeler#Profumo_affair

Chris Squirrel

Hi guys... My irrational fear is fkin multi bladed razors, instead of drawing down whilst shaving, my worry is that for some reason I draw across my face leaving up to 5 bastard bloody tramlines. Keep up the good work 💞

The show notes is a wonderful feature well worth my few shitsville pesos. Also wasn’t expecting the word scat in a car podcast. Shortly after the discussion I had that Scat Man song in my head which I think had a scary double meaning but is certainly catchy.

David Heath

I await Jonny's review of the Lightning.....

david marden

Coverdale appears to favour Prince George's heroic stance from Blackadder III

That Scrappy Doo stunt was typical for Hanna-Barbera in the late 70’s. They played the same trick with Godzilla and Godzuki. (I hate Godzuki just as much as Scrappy Doo.)

Peter Young

Here's TMI: that piece on Scrappy Doo is fascinating, I recall reading it a year or so ago. Unfortunately it's so long that the read had to be broken up over a number of separate poos. Definitely worth the wait though. 10/10 would recommend (both article and pooing).

Ant Brown

Wow, who says they don't do irony across the pond? 'Murca's nerdiest looking and sounding man presents a featurette on 'America's Toughest Truck' ™

Peter Heamon

That YouTube channel is going to get quite a few unexpected views. That'll mess with the algorithms.

Firstdan2000

Grew up in Farnborough, home of the RAE and the international airshow, so always lots of aircraft. In the mid to late '80s there was a trend for office blocks with lots of glass, and there was a few in Farnborough. However, a couple of Chinooks, also known as wookas, caused a few if the panels to crack. The Viggen on the other hand...
