Podcast 58 show notes

Quite a free-wheeling episode, this one. The lead image is, of course, of Jonny with the two Sierras about to feature in the latest Late Brake Show video.

I'll steer clear of them, I'm staunchly antiseptic.

I’ve just looked at that site. Apparently the products will protect against unwanted chaffing. Typical septics.

This is a Castle Castings unit built in Clitheroe, Lancashire I believe using a Brooks motor built in Huddersfield. Motor has got decidedly more grunt as it spins up effortlessly. I want one of these as the siren on my house burglar alarm. https://youtu.be/cURcd2_w-rg

Carter Gent. Wind on to 1m20 and just listen to it wind up. Epic...! https://youtu.be/q5FwsIkJCXU

I can certainly relate to the smell of a sierra. The 'communal' family car when I past my test and still building my first bug was a mk1 sierra complete with 1600 pinto slightly warmed over and with a twin choke weber off I think a granada. It had that lovely lambert and butler re-assuring aroma of course. I was never allowed near dads 'saffy' cosworth due to a neighbour witnessing my roundabout prowess in the MK1. As regards car smells there is a smell...a certain bouquet that I strive to find again. I witnessed it as a child in a 46 pontiac then a 220b merc and also in my first bug(until the sheer amount of metalwork chased the holy grail of car smells away). That is the smell of old/worn/mouldy vinyl/leatherette upholstery mixed with over-fueling and the distinct twang of petrol. Also with a bit of old oil notes thrown in. If I could find that and bottle it to splash over myself or stick it in one of those crappy plug in whatsits I would be happy man. Would be interested to know if anyone else can relate to this comfort blanket of automotive aroma joy.

At the end of the show I thought somehow my late 80's/early 90's rave playlist had started

Alfa Romeo Tonale, forever known as the Toenail SUV

Mark Williams

If Johnny does manage to drag you to Orkney there is always the Highland park distillery

Scott Boulter

I think the 'classic' Second World War siren is a Carter Gent, isn't it? Richard

Horrifically, there really is a product called Nutdust. I swear I didn't know this when I was dicking around at the start of the podcast. Richard https://officialnutdust.com

Good stuff, ta.

Ooops, sorry, forgot that link. It's actually an Italian 993. Link here: https://www.autoevolution.com/news/this-porsche-911-spent-4-years-in-a-river-and-it-s-being-rebuilt-148906.html

Smith and Sniff

C’mon, the bloody Portuguese submarine 993, where is it?!

Jasper Maters

Great pod guys I’m off to stretch the old plumb sack over the end of the ironing board for a close shave πŸ‘

Alex frost

Do you have a link to where Nut Dust can be bought? Asking for a friend.

Did you know that the Castle Castings factory in Clitheroe was but a stone's throw from where we were filming the other week Jonny...? They manufactured air raid sirens. I want one for my garage alarm my the missus (aka rev limiter) won't let have one as they scare her silly. I get it though and what Rich was saying. The sound as the wind up makes the hairs stand up on my neck. Maybe this is the one you're lad wants...? If not, could it be a Carter Gent...?

Rup (FastAsFunk)

You brought back memories of a girl I knew years ago that only pooed once a week. I can only assume it's akin to extruding aluminium using a Pla-Doh Fun Factory and her bottom must look like a smashed orange. Horrific.

Rup (FastAsFunk)

A couple of things. Rich, if you are on one of them foreign websites, simply right click and hit translate, works on Chrome, other internet browsers are available. Jonny asked on Twitter how to pronounce Cozzie, I can confirm I have never once uttered the word and have typically used the term Cosworth to refer to the Sierra, Escort, Mercedes 190, and any chassis with a DFV which bore their association.

Graham Dallas

Just learnt Android phones can play midi natively.

Phil Tordoff

Saving this for a long walk I've got tomorrow. Just spotted something on ebay that Jonny may enjoy, I'm sure everyone has had Carved Wooden Buddhist Hearse on their car wishlist at one time https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353485902432?hash=item524d66d260:g:eXsAAOSwi8ZglVdn
