Podcast 56 - What does Sade drive?

An amazing story from a listener has Jonny and Richard wondering what a sophisticated singer might have in her garage.

Also in this episode, Monty Don's car theft gardening, a song that name checks The Smoking Man from The X-Files, the secrets of selling TV shows, an unexpectedly smutty classic car advert, awful scraping noises on the North Circular, and the things you find in a second hand car CD changer.

Plus, unnoticed head scum, fake rabbit monorail, militant Ken Bruce, driving position madness, and what is algae?

Also, pandas and swans.

As a Canadian, I feel obligated to apologise for the entire Barenaked Ladies oeuvre. I can report that they did have several other hits, including "If I Had A Million Dollars," where the narrator suggests that, flush with six figures of cash, they would purchase a Dodge Reliant as a gift. This is like inheriting a mil and offering to buy someone a basic Ford Sierra. I will also just mention that I once met The Smoking Man (William Davis) in an airport. He was wearing a slovenly hoodie and travelling with a *much* younger woman. Possibly an alien. It was weird.

'Double Sade' is going straight into the niche sayings category.

The Bare Necked Ladies perhaps would put the theme from the Big Bang Theory forward as another of their known hits?

I thought Sade sounded familiar from my music library. I picked up this mini remix album a few years ago. Still awesome https://soundcloud.com/sade-quartet-of-love

Beautiful colour. Google search brought up an E28 Alpina B7 in that colour, I'd love to own one or even just drive one.

This interview from 2010 says that Sade drove a Volvo (as do I, which is where my similarity to Sade begins and ends, unless she has recently decided to become a fat Welsh lorry driver), which she got after trading in a vintage BMW - https://www.soulhead.com/2012/05/07/rare-sade-interview-sade-emerges-from-her-country-retreatby-robert-sandall-from-january-31-2010-from-uk-daily-times/

In 1997, Sade was nicked for reckless driving in Montego Bay, Jamaica - https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-1997-10-14-9710150362-story.html - we can only hope that she was driving an Austin Montego at the time.

I can really hear Jeremy saying "some say that his first car was a 13 year old 1997 Ford Escort Ghia X.... and both of the CDs in the the 6-CD-multi-changer were Sade's Diamond Life...."

Listening to this whilst eating left over vermicelli rice from Friday's Chinese. Fantastic way to enter the next week. Thanks lads! X

Sade must drive a BMW E30 325i convertible in Neongruen.

The Disco 1 I bought in 2011 had a changer full of odd CDs, including a Christmas bagpipe album that I kept. It used to collect a lot of window growth, as did my Disco 2. My current bobtailed D1 off roader is a quite the garden, especially where the roll cage touches the roof and traps seeds and things. I don't go to cider festivals and do wash, before you ask

Care-home setting *chokes on peanut* 😂

Great podcast. I remember at college me and some friends google searched images of modified Peugeot 307s (my friend had one as his first car) and got back results of some maxpower esk modelling images...

Thanks gents, this has really cheered my up. I got my first vaccination yesterday and I've been like death warmed up since last night.
