Podcast 53 - Ask us anything, volume 2

In a special bonus episode we answer some more of your questions.

Topics include disappointing cars, 500 quid snotters, how to improve F1, explaining SPOWATAAAAH man, upsetting car company PRs, Christian's Koenigs-eggs, Jonny's resistance to multi-car insurance, what we think of influencers, and our favourite car journalists. Plus, Jonny seems to think Bono is a type of sport.

Thanks again to everyone who submitted a question or two. Sorry we couldn't get through all of them this week. We'll do another one of these soon-ish.

A very funny episode. I laughed so much at Jonny trying to come up with a "sport" :)

Should you do a bonus round I had a question for Richard- how legit was Top Gear Ground Force? Did you guys really completely destroy that man's yard? Was he really unaware and was his reaction genuine? What were the after effects? I would imagine you had a professional landscaping company on standbye to fix the damage... very underrated special, fucking hilarious

I mentioned to my mum that Jonny had a BSA Bantam at the age of 14, she was overjoyed; she did too. I think she’s coming over to the wonderful world of Smith and Sniff.

Daniel Achterhuis

Hey guys, my e46 m3 has an oil temp gauge and it replaced the mpg gauge! Great episode :)

Tyler Hill

Sniff needs to have a look at the timbersports series, legit lumberjack sport.

After many chuckles and some near misses with tea leaving via my nose I think it's only fair I help Johnny fulfil his Stellantis dreams. I found for a mere £50 you can have China's finest create you a one off piece of high quality Stellantis clubwear. I mocked up a couple and would be more than willing to have one made and sent. I do wonder how long if at all it would take for the combined legal force of the world's greatest 90's euro-trance car manufacturing conglomerate to catch on if this became (un)official Smith & Sniff merch. https://imgur.com/a/inqjEQR

One of the first cars I ever remember was my granddad's Rover Metro - He won it from a Heinz competition and the car was Heinz themed. It was ketchup red with "57" decals, wheel trims, even sunroof etching. The number plate was "H57" followed by his initials. It got written off when he crashed it into a milk float.

I remember Jonny doing a feature on Fifth Gear with Shmee at the start of the car spotting days, you could be partly responsible for his success. Richard, apart from the Peugeot boardroom, have you ever appeared on a Top Gear or Grand Tour episode?

Henry Lisk

I think the late Elio de Angelis was the concert standard piano playing F1 driver.

Thanks for answering my question gents, nice surprise at the end of an hour of frivolity, very much appreciated.

Jonny's wife on ice: what a missed opportunity to use the phrase "a dab of oppo" if it's good enough for The Archers it's good enough here.

Simon Rockman

Bonus episode, thank you so much.

Graham Dallas

Just started listing while browsing the classifieds briefly considering an EP3 - and what happens? The Type R is getting discussed - I feel caught out now ;)

#lescolsdesalpes

Cheers chaps for answering both my questions. Feel like a very minor celebrity now. 😁 I'm glad you don't regret the RR yet Richard and the XFR-S is a bloody good shout for a daily estate. Thanks again gents.

Thanks for answering my question, really enjoyed all of these. A guy called Paul Cornish now has my old Roadster, the guy I sold it to last year was from London and it would be an incredibly small world if he's your mate Richard. Black Roadster Coupe BX55 XLG. He commented on one of my videos of it because it had a hissy fit as they sometimes do.

Their insta is very amateur but cool lol @micranagement

Also k11 is the ultimate cockroach: 2 mates drove one from London - Vladivostok for £500 (incl. a tom tom and 2 spares) only got one puncture from memory and that was in the middle of Siberia

Thanks for e63 estate solution for Mr Webb Sr (one you suggested is ~2 miles from him) but the advice has come 48hours too late.... a forced visit this weekend to see the mother-in-law resulted in him finding a DB9 3 miles from her's and he's already gone for 2 test drives and entered into ‘horse-trading’ with him.... this has been dubbed 'The 2/3 Life Crisis' within the family (does look great tbf)

Jamie W

Starts off with Peter Tork- based correctness. This is going to be good.

Ant Brown

Thanks guys for the extra podcast, much appreciated 👍🏻
