Podcast 46 - show notes

Some additional info and pics to go with the latest podcast. The main photo this week is of Bon Jovi in full eighties pomp. The bracelet budget alone must have been enormous. Other pictures are of a classic 1980s Head bag, the new Peugeot logo, Jonny's favourite shape of Audi A6, one of the new EV number plates clashing horribly with the paintwork, and the Openometer from an old Mini convertible.

Is it me or does the new Peugeot logo look like the proton logo

Not the beer festival waistcoat guy, but a friend of mine (luckily for him, in the days before camera phones) sported a leather waistcoat, I say that but it was in fact a leather jacket with the sleeves ripped off. Actually ripped off, and without even a suggestion of a tidy-up so still with threads and tiny bits of ripped leather hanging off the shoulders, like memories of shoulder pads. He wore it many times over the course of a couple of months, then it was never seen again. He otherwise wore entirely sensible clothes, which made it so much better.

Silly question but if the Royal Mail special delivery are stuck behind the Cosplayers can't they just break out their ekranoplans?

Carl Pickering

I am now on the hunt for 'beer festival waistcoat Crocodile Dundee hat and ponytail man' in saffron walden. Worryingly there are quite a few suspects and when the Weatherspoons opens up I am sure there will be a few more.....

The Donald Duck exchange reminded me of this: https://theoatmeal.com/pl/minor_differences4/shirt

Phil Tordoff

So what you're saying is that Jon Bon Jovi's duck pout was inspirational to today's Instagram yoof?

Giles Guthrie

remember those Head bags, always ended up looking very scruffy and covered in tippex!

Bruce Driffill

Ah, right. A twin bed must be one of those that you have in a room with another one just like it. AKA a childs bed. Put an A-Team duvet set one one bed, and a Street Hawk set on the other and listen for the screaming.

Firstdan2000

Johhny, please tell us that the demolition and rebuild of your home is being documented for an episode of Grand Designs... that might possibly be the best mashup we could ever hope for! Richard could even pretend to be your pretentious architect...

Christopher Holewski

I remember seeing them being built on a factory visit, and I still own my S Works I bought brand new on 31 Dec 2004 - brilliant cars

To add to the Mini code number discussion, the reason the Cooper S is R53 compared to the R50 One/Cooper is because the battery is in the back. The floorpan was made of 3 main parts - engine bay, cabin floor, and bootfloor. The first two parts were common, the bootfloor on the S was different due to the battery tray; hence the chassis was different and hence the different R53 code.

Gordon Gunn

Entirely logical... Like decimal feet and inches :)

Whilst collecting a misguided purchase from a particularly dubious part of Avonmouth, I stepped in a biblical dog egg. The car was a 1976 Trans Am, just earlier than proper Reynolds-spec and the £1,600 asking price should have been the warning sign. As it turned out, the dog shit was the least of my worries as the Trans Am expired in a cloud of smoke on the M4, less than 10 miles later.

James Skinner

I the Head Barbados full of schoolbooks for many years in the 90's. I am pretty sure it is the cause of my dodgy back, neck and knees.

Robin White

Twin is the American name for a single bed.

And for the VW camper: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Scooby-Doo-Flat-Sheet-Standard-Pillow-Case-Hanna-Barbera-Dan-River/124575509268?_trkparms=aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D231204%26meid%3D0d623050b1b14c07aa1c22b0ccd34c99%26pid%3D100010%26rk%3D8%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D143936835381%26itm%3D124575509268%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DDefaultOrganic%26brand%3DDan+River&_trksid=p2047675.c100010.m2109

Those Head bags....they got to a point where the "end" bag was all that was carried by the school dickhead. As he didn't need space for any books or PE kit.

Owain Kelly

the Scorpions make me think of an Opel Manta with wide fender flares. Maybe because Winds of Change was in the soundtrack to the movie Manta, Manta. It also included this tune from The KLF, which has a train set in the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pC_zffOenk8

Reed

Ok. Couldn’t wait and had a listen. Also shared the eBay advert (not the podcast though!) with my siblings who are gobsmacked that such a thing (in its original packaging) still exists. And with just two months until my birthday as well.....!

Ant Brown

I rather fancy looking like an Edwardian stable hand.

autoscribe74

Ah my mistake, maybe countdown her dad composed then. My brain is full of useless information I end up misinforming lol. Another great podcast though guys.

joe brudenell

Top tune! But her dad was a different composer of theme tunes. The Grand Designs / One Show chap is David Lowe.

Remember that Head Bag - got one for Christmas 1985 or so ... was bigger than me and I lugged it to school everyday!!

Mark Richards

Ok, this is going to drive me crazy now. Usually I walk the dog on a Sunday evening and listen to this, but owing to a change of plan this hasn't happened. Now I will need to wait until tomorrow to discover why the A-Team duvet cover that I had as a child features in the notes. Hnnnnnnnnghh!

Ant Brown

Following on from the composer that wrote the news theme Tune etc. He’s daughter had this hit in the early 90s of witch I’m sure you both will remember. https://youtu.be/TjIPzyVlK60

joe brudenell

Wow!

For the ultimate soft rock ballad, just add a little Morten Harket https://youtu.be/MTbTmyZvgrU
