Podcast 45 - show notes

Hello again. A few bits and bobs to go with ep45 of the podcast. The pictures this week are of Gordon Murray's T.50s, the McLaren Atora, the Land Rover Defender V8 (note the blue front brake callipers and V8 badges on the front doors), and the Hyundai Isotonic 5. But you knew that.

Is Alian De Cadenet like Alain de Cadenet only with scarier teeth? I’ve just checked him out on Wikipedia. Both his wives and all his children have first names beginning with A. Not a coincidence I think.

Completely unrelated to the episode but I've been pleased to see Alian De Cadenet working with petrolicious. As a kid I remember him absolutely flogging some priceless classic race cars on legends of motorsports. He seems like a more serious Tiff.

On the subject of F1 drivers and old bangers. Nigel Mansell used to have an old Astra he would drive around the Birmingham area when he was visiting his family. He used to get it serviced at the garage my Dad worked at.

Hopefully there will be NEW PEUGEOT LOGO content in the next pod. Raaaaaawr, I’m a lion!

That vendor has two of those Rover hearses for sale. Also offering a static caravan free to whoever can come and take it away ASAP. Sounds ideal for the Smith temporary accommodation. I wonder if one of the hearses could tow the van away, on a trailer of course. Make an interesting convoy.

Regarding Time Travel Ryan North's "How to Invent Everything: Rebuild All of Civilization" is a great read. It's the last resort emergency manual for a Time Machine. If you have ended up in any human compatible part of history, even pre-civilisation, it has everything you need to know to reinvent our world :) Re the T.50s, feel the same but that applies to every Porsche except the 928. Bizarre when one of the most thrilling rides of my life was in a track spec 993 GT2 driven by a, effectively, one armed man. Owen Evans had his left arm crushed in a NZ land speed record attempt. It was saved but locked in one position. When changing gear (with his right arm) the car was pretty much steering itself.

Ulysses 31...quite the international mix. I never knew of French/Japanese anime dubbed into English. My favorite childhood anime was Star Blazers/Space Battleship Yamato. Anyone old enough to remember that first run?

My Passat GTE has blue calipers just realised. Doesn't sound like a V8 :(

Good News! The Hearse I am pretty sure is an auto. My Dad is a Funeral Director and family once wanted a bit of cheap limo for a funeral so we put all the seats up in my dad's E220 estate and I was dragged in as driver. Wasn't the biggest expert aged all of 18 with an Auto box and the merc had that stupid foot mounted parking brake with the hand release which always came off with a thump. Lots of stop starts and hills etc. Mourners got a pretty jerky ride to the crematorium. Luckily the rest of the time driving for my dad was spent with passengers who didn't mind so much. Summer and Christmas holidays were regular spent driving around picking up passengers in a 960 or the aforementioned E220 then latterly a Grand Voyager Talking of which we were once at VW showroom looking at a Golf for my mother and next wick was a Touran and we wondering if we could get a trolley/ bodybag in it. Borrowed a tape measure from the salesman but that didn't give a definitive answer so we asked if we could come back with a trolley. Salesman decided the best solution was to come round and we could have a private test. He stood very bemused whilst we dismantled his car and then putting the trolley in, it did fit.

We need a picture of Johnny's hibernating "friends"!

Am I the only person who thinks the Ioniq 5 looks like a cross between a Cyber Truck and an Alfa Romeo SZ?

Ronnie Whelan

No, No, you can't through Nono out, he's a friend of Ulysses.

Graham Dallas

It's good but I'd have put that red robot out the airlock by the end of the first episode.

Maurice Barnes

Ulysses 31 was/is great although confusing, I have the DVD boxset within arm's reach.

Graham Dallas

I like the blue calipers, gives the hard of hearing the impression it might be electric πŸ˜…
