With 440 patreons at, what, a fiver each, that should be enough to buy an old shitter to tool about in. One for Johnny... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/V6-corsa-barnfind/124548733711?hash=item1cffaedb0f:g:ynoAAOSwKwlgCIEd

Family car, I'd go for a Saab 95 estate, very cheap, I have a 2.0t saloon with a noobtune map, 220bhp and 30-35mpg, I'd love to get a 2.3 estate myself but the Motor tax in Ireland is ridiculous. The map on the 2.3 would bring you to around 250bhp, lots of fun for cheap! Also Johnny, buy a Saab before they disappear!

Eoin Donoghue

One must ask. when are you going to find this clip of the queen caning a v8 landrover https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZ42dE6BJWI

Thinfourth

Family car, V8 Audi Allroad (think of it as a ‘Safari S6)’ or Subaru Forrester 2.5 XTEN Prodrive pack, as it happens I might be selling mine on Pistonhead’s soon.

My recommendation for a quirky, fun, dog friendly daily would be a JDM Forester Sti. Or for a bit less, a Gul Yellow Volvo T5.

Chris

Family car? Matra Rancho, obvs.

Well I had previously resisted the urge to go and listen to Steel Bars.. Then I went and listened to it! What an absolute masterpiece of mediocrity!! Sadly it brought back memories of a young me, in the back of a shit brown Maestro, listening to my mum and aunt utterly murdering a Michael Bolton cassette... My psychiatrist will be in touch to invoice you shortly 🤣 By the way Richard, if it’s just a stopgap car then go buy a tidy Mondeo ST220 estate. Kids, dogs, rubbish for the tip and the occasional cadaver where necessary.. not a lot that won’t fit, and they’re pretty good fun for the price now. Creamy V6 too...

Ben Aston

I didn't see that... The pre 06 ones are the best by far but becoming increasingly rare, there's a very tasty one on there but it's 7.5k with a lot of upgrades. I'm slowly disappearing down a fast Swedish estate sized rabbit hole..

Ollie Rix

Totally agree with pushing the car out of the garage to avoid starting then stopping. I once put my back out trying to push my Volvo over the garage threshold. Now I start it instead.

Ed Storer

I was just looking at one of these! I don’t think I can afford the £560/year road tax though. Now, if I can find a pre-2006 one...

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202101158012865?atmobcid=soc3 Forgotten the budget but slightly obsessed with one of these could be a potential family run about? Spacious, Ulez compliant, different, room for the family and dog?

Ollie Rix

The petrol Freelander 2 is ULEZ compliant. Kinda wish I’d sought out a petrol one now I’m wfh all the time.

David Daley

One of my earliest driving memories was my grandad pushing his Metro 1.1s (Red seat belts, spoiler, slightly higher compression ratio) down the drive and into the garage with me at the wheel aged 10-11ish. That car was to become my first car some 7 years later when Grandad decided his less equible rules of on coming traffic (he one told me off for covering my eyes as he took a blind humpbacked bridge flat with light full ablaze) that it would be best for all concerned to give up his license.

Robin White

The 24/48/72 hour protection advertised on these deodorant products is essentially a polite way of saying “for really sweaty buggers and/or those who honk”. I thought exactly the same as you until this was pointed out to me...

Leighton Brown

It’s quite obvious that Richard’s stopgap family car should be a Bentley Continental Flying Star by Touring. Just needs a mat in the boot, so the dog doesn’t slide about and scratch the decking.
