We, humans, are world-class creative beings by design.
We have an internal drive to become more.
I believe, Art is not primarily measured by terrific craft. It’s measured by connection.
Does the work speak to us? Does it move us? Does it pull us in as a sweet embrace?
While creating fine craftsmanship is all up in the head, the greatest power of Art is reaching down in our hearts.
This is where real meaning happens – where change happens.
Art, very early on, was designed to be much closer to a spiritual practice than to merely pass the time.
It’s worth remembering that the first artists were the shamans.
And they were incredible craftsmen. But their craft was in service of more profound truths -- heart-centered truths.
Every Art form on this planet and throughout history has a powerful, beautiful set of connective strategies (meaning-filled strategies) that are embedded in each particular form.
And yet, in our hustle and bustle world we forget or under-appreciate the gifts Art was really meant to deliver to us.
Want to go deeper?
Want a place to begin?
Then yes, be dedicated to practicing your craft. But also, look to the beautiful works you always seem to go back to – and wonder why.
One by one, pick them apart. Study deeply. Don’t just understand their craft. Dig into how they uniquely delivered something much more profound.
And you will be rewarded as I have, I promise.
Have a beautiful, beautiful day, my friends,
Steve
