The Triangle Of Support

FIGURE DRAWING PRO TIP!

Are your figures too posed?

Too static?

If you want to put those bodies in motion, imagine each body's Triangle of Support...

If you stand still, you'll probably notice that your feet are, more or less, as wide as your shoulders.

The wider the feet are, the more stabile your stance is.

Now imagine drawing three lines from foot to foot to head and back to the first foot.

That is the Triangle of Support. And since the triangle is the most stabile geometric shape there is, your pose feels stabile.

All you ahve to do is tilt the triangle and it will feel tipppy or downright off balance and falling over!

[Just like in my boxer pictured above}

And notice that the legs can be cropped by a lot and still feel in balance or out of balance.

I use this trick all the time to get action in my pieces.

Give it a try and tell me what you think. I'd love to hear...

Have a beautiful, beautiful day, my friends!
