Color Harmony and Connective Strategies in General

Here's you suggested Homework Assignment:

Color harmony just means the colors have something in common.

Practice making two (and then later 3 or four) colors move towards each other by adding a little bit of the one into the second.

Paint a little swatch of that new color to save it. That can be on the pallets or on crap canvas of panel.

Then add a little more of the one into the second -- save a save.

Repeat that several times until you you have a whole set of swatches to look at and see the wonderful range of possibilities.

Then flip it and add some of second into the first-- save and repeat.

Doing this kind of curious play with your materials around one simple idea wires your brain, refines your eye and is the foundation for eventually mastering your art form.

You can do this kind of incremental blending with anything. For example, blending a box incrementally into a ball, simple drawing by simple drawing.

Have fun, my friend!

This is a great intro to colour - something that I have always struggled with. Do you think that this practice can be done digitally with the RGB palette?

Been using the octopus method since I was a kid, intuitively! Also worth noting that it's best to keep colors clear and bright by wiping the brush clean between blends.
