We had high hopes of bringing you episode 40 of Project Binky today but the universe intervened again because, well, of course it did.
Cutting out the last two pieces of the instrument cluster faces on the mill, they came out egg shaped. Turns out, after 25 years of hard graft and constant adjustment, the lead screws had just worn out. No spares in the UK and they're expensive so we figured the best way to fix the issue was to change the mill to ball screws.
Not quite as straightforward as anticipated because of course to make the changes to the mill you need a mill. So when your mill is in its component parts, this - as you might imagine - was troublesome.
Fast forward a few weeks and it's back up and running with zero backlash. This, is a good thing.
We're going to be building our own much bigger mill soon, because of course we are. But that can wait until the mini is finished and now we have our accuracy back, we're back on finishing the instruments.

I always have to remind myself that "a few weeks" is rather elastic when it comes to the BOM guys! I guess I'll go back to episode 1 and start all over again while I wait for my bracket fix!
