690. 1Upsmanship - Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy

Michael and Adam discuss 2001’s Naughty Dog installment Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, an episode that Michael has personally waited 20 years for. Let’s talk about the orbs and rapid spinning kicks of this early 3D platformer, as well as see if Adam disappoints Michael as a true friend.

I gasped out loud when I read this episode title. Finally! The game that started it all for me. Great episode as always.

I remember the first time I watched my friend play, I was about 9 and it looked incredible, and i couldn't play because it was his PS2 that he got for his birthday party. Then I got a PS2 a few years later and played Jak 2 when I was 12 and I remember thinking "Whoa is this the same franchise? I mean it has Jak and Daxter, so I guess it must be." Swaim is not exaggerating even a little. The transition between each game felt almost jarring.

Oh hell yeah. I don’t watch 1up (on account of I don’t think I’ve ever agreed with any opinion Adam Ganser has shared about media on any small beans podcast - I thought I did once but that turned out to be David Bell), but I’m putting all that aside because the Jak & Daxter series is one of my absolute favorites. The animation when Jak punches is so well done, just look at how Daxter scrambles around on his shoulders! It’s so cool and fluid
