Hourly Comic Day!

Hourly Comic Day was on Monday! It's always on the first of February.

I don't know if I've ever gotten HCD all done in the same day;  there's no real "rule," you're just chronicling a day's worth of awake hours in comics form. (Then again, there are no rules to begin with. It's just a fun drawing challenge that I happen to love.)

The real bitch is if your waking hours happen to be... many many hours long, as mine was. I'm gonna miss Sonja and her family (I'm still in Copenhagen, I leave Monday), but I am counting down the hours til I get to sleep in my own bed.

Allow me to explain why, within these silly panels capturing my most mundane Monday.

(Tess Scilipoti & Julia Kay, in case ya don't kno.)

Body wash makes for bad dish soap, fyi.

L.A.K.E. is the band that made No Wonder I, featured in the Adventure Time episode Shh!, where BMO invites over a bunch of bikini babes to dance to this perfect song.

(Long story short, my AirBnB of choice wasn't available until a week into my Copenhagen stay, so I found a hotel for the first half.)

Why do people do this. METAL CHAIRS come on.

I LOVE THIS FOOD because I'm a bad American.

I'm learning a lot about kids, and how kids sleep/don't sleep.

This was followed by actual watermelon.

I started drawing us talking at the dinner table but it was boring and this was better.

This is never a good sign. (book: 4,000 Weeks by Oliver Burkeman)

This one didn't make it into the Instagram posts but it really adds to the softcore-torture-chamber-disguised-as-an-AirBnB vibe. There's a street lamp shining perfectly through the empty gap onto the pillow. Everything here is just like, Amelie-prank level of torture.

Probably would've been fine if there weren't ten second gaps of silence in between.

Dan is great, Dan won't care.

Salt in the wound: the bed at the hotel was PERFECT.

ps. drawing prayer hands is hard

Sometimes I have a good idea.

I've been waking up in so much pain. At least I'm sleeping. Yoga is helping. I'll be home soon.

I have! I want to like it, but holy crap some of that stuff is intense!! I still have a hankering for it now and then, though. :)

That's what I thought, but we were both wrong. I use a stainless steel pan at home; Dawn + hot water cleans it no prob. I dunno if the body wash had a conditioner that threw it off or what, but it did NOT clean that pan!

I'm home now and two nights on normal mattresses has been DIVINE and has fixed me!!

Danielle Corsetto

OH my gosh how DID you?? It's everywhere, their grocery stores have a whole licorice AISLE!!

Danielle Corsetto

Thank you for introducing me to Tess Scilipoti!

"That's no AirBnB, that's a RockBnB" (which explains the matress).

kaitou

Oh, and liquorice; have you tried salmiakki (saltlakrids in Danish), salty liquorice? It's more of a Finnish thing than Danish, but definitely worth experiencing!

Chairs are instruments of torture (my work chair is a 30+ year old Varier Wing, and squatting is good for your pelvic floor as well as your back), and soft mattresses are an Abomination (I sleep on a futon, the only thing that keeps me awake is the batface mustelid evil Time Lord adolescent kitten, Missy, getting under the duvet, or comforter, if you must…). Both conventional chairs and soft mattresses are doubleplus ungood for you back. I have spoken. πŸ™‚

You can use body wash to clean pans. You can use dish soap to clean people. Detergent is detergent, mostly just the scent varies but any other additives in either of them all rinse off and are safe.

Your own mattress at home will feel wonderful for those first few nights. But only those first few. ;-) Thank you so much for this lovely full day vignette.

Oh no! Not being able to sleep is agonizingβ€”I hope it's gotten at least a little better! 🀞

Read that first panel as you staying in bed because of scoliosis 😳

Chris Driggers

How did I miss lakrids when we were in Denmark?!

Steve Boyko

Did you try the couch?
