Elephant Town Chapter 6 (pages 1-2)

Paul, the human version of a Monday, has returned.

Thanks to everyone who helped me with call center stuff on Twitter the other day! It's been uhhhh like 16 years since I worked at one of those, and things have changed a little. MUCH less satisfying to hang up on a customer, and I hear managers don't like it when you do that? Good thing Paul's a manager... apparently...

I can’t imagine offering such advice as removing the walls (though I’m sure I’ve thought about it), though I have known people who would. I also can’t help but wonder about what kind of abuse Paul has gotten to get him to this point. Cause people straight up forget you’re a human person.

Miriam

Zoom is vastly improved and the streaming TV in front of my exercise bike is back to full resolution instead of half pixilated. And so much easier to set up than networks in the past.

Ralph

You'd sure think so! These old houses can surprise you sometimes, it's mind-boggling.

Danielle Corsetto

I just did the same this weekend. I waited a long time cause my job is tech support so I don't want to do setup/support at home. It was so easy though and I notice a difference immediately!

Two walls isn't unreasonable for a modern wifi router to go through, unless they're the walls of a Faraday cage. Even 5 GHz will go through two or three lath-and-plaster walls without much trouble.

Chris Kalin

I feel both sides of this, having been on both sides of this sort of conversation. But Paul is being a jerk. I would have much more sympathy with him if he hadn't used the phrase "dumb b****".

Hugh Eckert

It's not often one gets tech support on a non-tech cartoon! I'll look into this!

Theadora

We just replaced a single base station with a modern 3 station mesh network. Eager to see how today's Zoom meetings go. I can so connect with Kris' frustrations.

Ralph

As soon as I realized this was Paul, I could feel the loathing rising up inside of me. Yeesh. With the rest of this comic you've cemented my utter contempt for this character. Damn, you're good!

Ruth Merriam

Both. He has a case of contagious Monday.

kaitou

I'm glad to hear that because practically EVERYONE who replied said they needed a supervisor's permission to hang up on someone, even if the customer is sexually harassing the service rep. Yeesh!

Danielle Corsetto

Who needs counseling when you can get the paperclips for free!

Danielle Corsetto

What a pleasant fellow!

Cab

I work in a call center, we're allowed to hang up on rude people after a few warnings. Paul needs to relax tf out.

Meisterj

I love and hate it when characters clash, and you did it really well, Danielle! Can’t say I love the situation depicted, but now I love this comic even more.

MyOtheHedgeFox

This art is absolutely amazing! Paul, however, is not. He needs some counseling to deal with his anger. And his anxiety. And maybe his perceptions of women. And himself. I need to stop while I'm ahead... 😉

NJGR

Human incarnation of a Monday as in he feels like it always is or he makes you feel like it must be Monday?

Edward Clayton Andrews

Yeah, walls are a problem with wifi. And yeah, a second router will do it. But Paul is being a bit of a dick.
