Welcome to my Brain

This is how most of my best plans are hatched, and all of my worst ones.

Happy New Year! You might already know that I take new year's resolutions pretty seriously (but not too seriously - 2019's was "grow out your armpit hair").

I miss making dumb little comics about what's in my brain. So this year's resolution is to draw an autobio comic every week and share it here.  Would you like that? They might be short one-panel things when I'm strapped for time, or they might be long like this one.

This is in part to make up for all the Art Nights and Figure Drawing Nights that had to be forfeited in 2020. Plus, I feel like I've been a little cagey about my life since I stopped making Stuck at 32 comics (these will basically just be more of those, but digital). I miss sharing stuff with you guys. <3

I'll probably put most of them on social media as well, but if I make any strips that feel a bit more personal, I'll just share them here with you.

Thank you so much for continuing to follow me here. You guys have been literal lifesavers for me, and you're the only reason Elephant Town is happening. When I talk about the comic, I tell people that it's being published by you all. It's a fun experiment in new business models, and I'm not sure I would have even started it if not for this group. <3

May 2021 be gentle on all of you. Anything could happen this year, but there's no harm in a little hope. :)

Btw, the badass Tlingit woman I breezed over in this comic is Elizabeth Peratrovich, and I did in fact hang Jared Cullum's beautiful paintings, along with Pam Wishbow's 2021 calendar:

And Yellowknife is the only item on my bucket list. Rendering it more like a... teacup list. I'll get there one day.

That was deeply relatable. 😅

Your brain is very relatable!

I would love that!

You'll be getting a royalty check. ;)

Gonna use you all like floss through these brain pathways!! :*

Danielle Corsetto

I love this trip through your brain SO MUCH

Yes please to more comics, but I'm not sure you can call them autobio when you're clearly stealing the one above from my brain and I honestly did not expect to be called out like this, Danielle.

Jemaleddin Cole

Thanks! I did google it, and binged them all this afternoon!

MAY WE ALL BE SO BLESSED Stuck at 32 was a bunch of traditionally-drawn autobio comics that I did for a bit. I never intended them to be something serious, just like the ones I'll be doing here, but Hiveworks offered to set up a site for them, so you can find them right here: http://stuckat32.com/

Danielle Corsetto

SAAAAME autobio is my favorite to read!

Preach that june-bug-on-a-string brain, sis

FYI, I stopped shaving my underarms...only to discover that in my early 60's, my armpit hair just disappeared! One of the good/bad things about getting older, I guess! What is Stuck at 32? {off to Google...}

Betty P Thomas

I hope he will get extra treats for his help.

These autobio bits are SO relatable! I like the comics, but I love the looks into the person behind them. Seeing the *people* who make the art I love is one of my favourite things.

This felt uncomfortably like the many rabbit holes into which I've fallen. And where, exactly, did those 2 hours go? Don't downsize your bucket list. You're still young. Life is full of surprises. I was one of the lucky ones who got to see Kate Bush in concert at the Hammersmith in London a few years ago. I waited decades to fulfill that dream. On the same trip, we went to Copenhagen - a city where I was born but which we left when I was 5 months old. I found the place where my family lived. Thank you for these snippets of your life. Your generosity of spirit is much appreciated.

I'm glad you said that, because most of them will probably just be Pip. ;)

Danielle Corsetto

I really, really, really like your autobio comics! I appreciate your new year's resolution very much. More Pip! :-)

ahahaha that wiki walk I forget what specifically my last resolution was, other than to just finish things (even if it's a book), but this year's basically a continuation of what I started when the pandemic hit, to find and buy from/donate to people who need money more than I do (I technically still get an allowance in the form of my parents are sneaking me my inheritance early)

Minzoku Bokumetsu

Ooh I like that now I have both the technical term for this phenomenon, and the cute French feels-like interpretation. :)

YEEEESSSSS! Three things: 1. I absolutely love everything about your autobio comics: how relatable they are, the style you draw them, EVERYTHING. 2. Please get out of my brain. I'm getting so bad that when I switch to another window or app, I just start scrolling or doing my thing, completely forgetting that I went there for a purpose. Google rabbit holes are dangerous wonderlands. 3. Regarding a word or something look weird after you use it or say it too much: Definitely check out "semantic satiation." Even if not repeated uninterrupted, words definitely start to look or feel wrong. The worst one for me is "were." I mean, just typing it once and I'm all, "Wait, is that even a real word? Let along a common verb? Just... what? Where did it come from?" So yeah... -j
