Not saying you shouldn't add sound effects where you wish them to be, but your art in these pages is so evocative that I could hear the sounds and feel the atmosphere as I read. Absolutely beautiful.

It'll probably be the same size!!

Oh man! Well you're nailing it! I'm enjoying this so much; it's really beautiful. When the hard copy comes out eventually, I'll put it right next to Blankets. ^_^

Sarah Manx

:) That's a mighty compliment. I re-read Blankets before starting Elephant Town, to get an idea of the pacing I wanted and how to accomplish it. You should see my copy; there are so many little cut-up post-it notes sticking out of pages I like, it looks like fringe coming out the top!

Danielle Corsetto

I love how you capture atmosphere so perfectly - this makes me miss working in a coffee shop!

I went back to check the differences on that as well! Just gorgeous attention to details to set everything right...

NJGR

ahhhh I feel so guilty I just INHALE these pages in like mere seconds, how do I properly savour them D=

Minzoku Bokumetsu

I'm so glad you noticed that. :)

Danielle Corsetto

I like how the order pad handwriting is so neat at first, and later on it looks a bit more hurried.

Alacrity Fitzhugh

I'm absolutely in awe - this is GORGEOUS! The colors, the lighting, the intricate details! I love how the clusters of tiny panels communicates the busyness of a cafe, and I love the contrast between that and the full-page of Miranda just sitting quietly, folding napkins in the lull.

Katie McMahon

What a gorgeous collection of pages that establish such a sense of place. I wish I could get my students to write like you draw.

Ralph

So evocative. Takes me back to my first baking job as an overnight dessert maker at a coffee roaster.

David Neale-Lorello

This conveys the atmosphere of the place so well in so few pages. This is the kind of storytelling I aspire to learn.

Danielle, long time fan, 142nd time caller - when did your art become so radiant??? Really lovely stuff this week!

Jemaleddin Cole

I love the whole atmosphere you've created in these pages. A shift in pacing and timing with how close things are. It's been good across this whole chapter. I don't usually go back to reread them at once but I think I'll go back through these all together. I also like how were getting parts of a scene all at once instead of one page at a time. This kind of story would not be received as well like that

Meisterj

This made me feel the way that I did when reading Blankets 16 years ago. Just that slow, subtle magic of building a deeply relatable mood on a page.

Sarah Manx

Agreed!
