Elephant Town Chapter 4 (pages 4-6)

Well, now I want blueberry scones.

(Thanks for being so cool about the late update; Pip let me stay in bed 'til noon and I'm feeling a lot better!)

This chapter makes me miss being the opening shift barista. :)

This is glorious. I'm obsessed with the panel of the fluorescent light turning on. It's just perfect! (And also I want raspberry tea and blueberry scones. Yum.)

Clare K. R. Miller

This is one of the many things that makes you a consummate artist - your eye for detail and the care you put into searching out those details. Just FYI: straight down and up, never twist, if you want your biscuits or scones to rise gloriously in magnificent flaky layers. When you twist the cutter, you tend to seal the edges and impede that vertical lift. I also noticed the rolls of napkins all neatly lined up and the lights on the (I'm guessing) BUNN coffee machine. The gentle care of the two friends coming in for their tea time. Honestly, I could *feel* every moment of these panels. You're a freakin' genius.

Ruth Merriam

If you'd asked me to say what sound a fluorescent light makes when it turns on, I don't think I could have said. But "blik blik... bzzzzz" is exactly it.

Lisa

Good for Pip! And your art is quite impressive. More!

Alacrity Fitzhugh

"EMT service! Where's the patient?" "Thank God! We found her right here on the floor, unconscious!" "(Gene, prepare an IV bag with D5W lactates while I get her vitals) Sir, do you know if she's allergic to anything?" "Uhh.......compliments?" "Yup, bracelet checks out."

Andy Ihnatko

YES! This sequence is a brilliant demonstration of the difference between "nobody speaks" and "the images do all of the speaking."

Andy Ihnatko

You two are gonna make me blush my FACE OFF

Danielle Corsetto

RUTH, I have NO IDEA how to use a biscuit cutter (I didn't even know what it was until I googled it), but I watched THREE. VIDEOS. showing people using them, just for people like you who might notice! So, you're welcome. u_u

Danielle Corsetto

DANIELLE, these pages are AMAZING

Boum

YASSSS 😍

Cat McAteer

GREAT storytelling! It doesn't even matter what the story is because the storytelling is so good. Love these pages!

Ayup. There are great storytellers out there and great artists, but it is so rare to find such deep talents in one person. With Maestra Corsetto, the two synergize: why I fell in love with GWS is her ability to convey complex and nuanced experience in her characters with the simplest technical gestures, like choosing a dot eye over a circle-and-dot or vice versa and, indeed, even the shape of that dot. I'm on the edge of my seat here with ET.

David Neale-Lorello

Seriously. I want to yell about the goodness of the STORY but also the technical chops on display here keep pulling me back to yelling about the METHOD. These tiny situational panels overlaid on larger scenes? The specificity of the colors? GOD DAMN GOD DAMN GOD DAMN.

Lucy Bellwood

My god, Danielle, your ability to capture a gestalt through detail never ceases to amaze me!

David Neale-Lorello

Thank you for not twisting that biscuit cutter! Everything about this vignette is perfection. I can smell the coffee, the flour in the air, feel the silence being broken by her productivity. Then that exhalation as customers take their seats. Just WOW. I think I need to bake something today. Thanks for that. LOL

Ruth Merriam

Oohh right right, that space will be open, I didn't think about it! Naw, this page is a fudging of the old Shaharazade's tea shop, and we'll see the record shop where Wings of Dreams is now. I think you'll be tickled by the dumb fictional alterations I made to Andrew and his shop. ;)

Danielle Corsetto

Shoo - this looks like the Bistro to me! I haven't heard anything about a new bakery but will keep ears open. No one will ever replace PF, tho...

Cat McAteer

I knew *someone* would appreciate that! I'm real happy with how it came out. :)

Danielle Corsetto

Ooo which space? Pressed Flour's old digs?

Danielle Corsetto

Telling a story without dialogue or faces is a hell of a feat. This is fantastic, Danielle!

Cab

Maybe, by putting this into the world, THIS is what will happen to that space! Fingers crossed for blueberry scones...

Cat McAteer

This is like visual ASMR. Why are you so awesome!

Oh, and special shout out to that gorgeous "BZZT" up there! I see you and appreciate you, lovely onomatopoeia. 😁

These vignettes, Danielle. Wow! From her hand to the coffee pot, the napkins,... just each small piece brought me joy and peace. And, heavens, but do I ABSOLUTELY feel that last panel so much. Each chapter is perfect in its own way, but I just needed these small moments of breathe so bad right now!
