Elephant Town Chapter 2 (pages 19-22)

Few domestic pet peeves are worse than an unlined kitchen trash can.

(Those forum replies are mild compared to what people actually post, btw. You're welcome!)

Thanks, she's in a much better place now (and happily married)

Minzoku Bokumetsu

That is awful! I'm so sorry that happened.

Jenn Hahn

Yikes. 😞 But also...it's an interesting peek into the corner of the Internet that I would likely never venture to on my own. Which in turn makes Paul a very intriguing fictional character to me.

Sarah Manx

I dip my toe into it about once a week. And if that's what the majority of Twitter is like, I'm actually even more horrified.

Theadora

the replies on my SIL's LiveJournal back when she was suicidal were the worst, randos found it and posted for LAUGHS

Minzoku Bokumetsu

If Paul had contact with more than just internet trolls - if he had truly supportive, actual friends - he might feel better about himself or at least develop the courage to not blame women for his problems. Maybe he does have supportive people in his life, I don't know; it'll be interesting to see what else his social life is like.

Fox

Haha I thought about that too, that he put the liner over the cookie.

Jessica Bernard

Thank you. And I know that he hasn't done anything bad yet, but a lot of people seem to be jumping to label him as a stalker or creepy... and I just feel sorry for him.

Hugh Eckert

We can all agree that an ill-kept kitchen garbage can is just naaaaasssssstyyyyyy.

Ruth Merriam

I admit I don't really like this guy, but yeah, that's the opposite of support, guys. I hope he finds some help more lasting than a fortune cookie! Good job lining the trash, tho now I'm twitchily wondering if he left the cookie under the liner. XD

Amy Crook

My deepest sympathies.

Amy Crook

Technically, Paul hasn't done anything bad yet. I hope you both get out of your dark places soon. <3

Danielle Corsetto

Frankly it was hard not to put typos in EVERY comment.

Danielle Corsetto

Oh god I spoke too soon, THAT is the worst domestic pet peeve.

Danielle Corsetto

DAMN, you're right about the floor! I forgot to go in and add some scum. I'll get it later, thanks for the reminder!

Danielle Corsetto

It's been an interesting two years. ._.

Danielle Corsetto

I assume the "knowin'" mispell as "known" is intentional? (Because people on the internet can't spell. :P It's a nice touch, honestly.)

People can be so horrible online. Also... well, I understand why people are dragging on this character, but I'm in a dark place myself and all I feel for him is compassion. Which is not the same as excusing or approving anything problematic about his behavior, mind you. I probably should just stop reading the comments.

Hugh Eckert

I love the different visual perspectives in this series of panels!

Ralph

i assumed the bag was in there, but it'd sunk down into the can so he went back to pull it up. that happens all the time in our kitchen trash and if you don't fix it, all the gross stuff piles up right on the edge

Sheri Spangenberg

Have you ever been on Twitter?

Ruth Merriam

People have an almost infinite capacity for being utter shits to one another. It's kind of a wonder that we haven't already murdered one another off and the internet and its anonymity factor has made the worst of us exponentially more loathsome. But you found that out when you did your research, right? Gods, I'm shattered by your dedication to your art. I was also utterly twitching until he put the damn garbage bag into the trash can. Like, the entire time he was walking towards it with the pill bottle my mind was going, "put in a bag, put in a bag, put in a goddamn bag!" Hello, pet peeve Sister. (Also, there's no way his floor would be that clean.) That fortune is going to come back to haunt him. . . because it's *underneath the bag*.

Ruth Merriam

I am hoping this guy isn't going to snap and stalk/murder to vent his frustrations. I get a very creepy vibe from him.

Jenn Hahn

...that's horrifying, that anyone could say that to anyone else. Maybe now I understand a little better how what I consider "good manners" others think of as "thought policing" or "political correctness gone wild". :-(

Theadora

Same question!

Sarah Manx

Did you actually read incel forums as research for this?! Yowza. That's dedication.
