Elephant Town Chapter 2 (pages 1-4)

Enter: Paul.

And that angelic girl at the desk. I don't know her name. I wonder if Paul does...

I colored these in Procreate, and after working on them for the whole day I can't tell if the colors look different or if this is exactly what they would've looked like if I'd done it in Photoshop. I *can* tell you that I enjoyed the process a lot more, so maybe make it my default. :)

Also I wouldn't have drawn clouds, because I don't have a good "cloud" pen in P'shop.

I put all the pages up separately in the "gallery" format this time so you can see each of them on their own (I wanted to show pages 3 & 4 together here, for obvious reasons). Should I do both formats - gallery and imbedded into the body of the post - for every update? Lemme know!

Aww, Neal. :) Thank you! Staying off Twitter is working wonders for dat sunlight!

Danielle Corsetto

I completely agree about the quality of that light. For all of Danielle's avoidance techniques on social media, these colors sure turned out sublime! ;) - - Neal

I felt very Bob Ross when I was making the clouds!

Danielle Corsetto

Another vote for "both" (if it's not too much trouble). And DEFINITELY another vote for Wow! on the lighting! And those are just perfect clouds.

Theadora

Set! Paul just got off work. :)

Danielle Corsetto

Love love love the sunlight, indoors and out! Is this sunrise or sunset?

I already have!!

AW LUCY <3 <3 <3

Danielle Corsetto

Aww I'm so glad you came here, you're gonna have a special connection to the places in this comic! <3

Danielle Corsetto

I really like the perspective and color on these

E

This is gorgeous Danielle, and gotta admit, I feel special to be able to recognize what this is based on!

Boum

Oh wow! I am not a visual artist of any kind, but I did notice that the coloring looked especially pretty. And THEN I read that you used a different tool for it. 😊

Sarah Manx

Because I selfishly like to read these in my inbox I enjoy having them embedded, but I also love having the full-page view to page through in the gallery. I vote both! (And yeah, echoing what everyone else has been saying: HOLY SHIT THESE COLORS I LOVE THEM SO MUCH.)

Lucy Bellwood

Just wear all the coats. SO MANY COATS!!!

This is Church Street, which can be a lot more dead! But yeah, usually you'll see at least a pedestrian here or there. My picture of Shepherdstown has been subconsciously altered over the last few months!

Danielle Corsetto

I KNOW I've been thinking about that ever since I moved here! God it'd be a hellacious heating bill, though!

Danielle Corsetto

That's the emptiest I've ever seen downtown Shepherdstown. Brings back a lot of fond memories.

dvsDave

Fucking art commune right next door??? YES PLEASE!!!!

AHAHAHA!! Did I tell you he wants to sell it to me? Stories for another time... ;)

Danielle Corsetto

AND THE BIG CREEPY HOUSE!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHH

Yeah, I figure more options isn't going to upset anyone. ;) Thanks! I'm struggling with light - these still don't look the way they do in my head - but luckily I have my ghost editor/boyfriend Luke around to reassure me that between "what I see in my head" and "total garbage," these are undeniably closer to the former.

Danielle Corsetto

It's right next to my house! So you totally have! The hint of a building next to this building - a few little lines in the background - is actually my house. :)

Danielle Corsetto

Ruth you make it feel worth all the effort I put into these. <3 <3 <3 Thank you! (You'll learn about Paul's relationship to courage VERY soon.)

Danielle Corsetto

I don't think many are going to find the presence of both to be a problem, really. I like the gallery view for details but the embedded version so I can read the comic in my email, without opening Patreon, if I don't feel like the extra hassle. And I'm glad you're in the new software for these pages at least, because, while that panel would work okay without the clouds, it certainly wouldn't be the same. The colors in general are great, especially the flowers, but most of all I love what you've done with light in this.

I like seeing both forms

ZekeStaright

These are stunning!

Alex Ives

I love that interior shot! I feel like I've seen this place in Sheperdstown or at least passed it a few times. Lovely work!!

Oh my word, that sunlight streaming through the tree and refracting off of the clouds, and then coming through the back of Paul's car windows. You're seriously hitting it out of the park with details. And then on into the shop. Love the curved wall and the chair rail and the flowered border along the ceiling, and obviously sunlight being diffused through those curtains in the back window. Everything about the color palette is just soothing to the eye while letting all the details shine. Now I can't wait to see what Paul was ponying up his courage to do.
